Aye, a cat. We had a dog too, but it was a bit too agressive so we had it put down.

Thanks, was just curious.

I thought I got into Johnny McDonnell's taxi last night. Alas, it wasn't him. His voice was at a frequency that human ears could pick up.

Oh, and damn this ice!

Question about Boards.ie - Does anybody know how to stop getting emails every time any thread I post on has further posts added? I try to permanently disable all updates (or whatever the correct term is) but it doesn't seem to work. I won't get updates regarding that thread, but I will get updates about any othre thread i post on for the first time, until I go and unsubscribe from those also. How can I go about not getting any update emails anymore ever?

I don't remember having that trouble when I joined foot.ie, but maybe the settings regarding updates were different.

Same as it is here.
Click CP (in the top right of the navigation bar, to the left of the logout link)
Click List Subscriptions (in the bottom left under Subscribed Threads)
Select the checkbox next to the thread you have subscribed to that you don't want to receive mails for any more, it should say "Instant" in the notification column
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click the Select Threads select box (it says "Move to folder.." by default) and select the notification type you want (None, Instant, Daily, or Weekly) and click Go
The notification column for the thread should be changed to your choice of notification

Wow, in the last couple of weeks three people on foot have lost a canine family member, as did a guy I work with. His dog, Elvis, died of heat exhaustion, aged 7.. always makes me kind of uncomfortable when I see thick coated dogs here in Australia.

Nice - our recently deceased dog was called "Ringo". There's the beginning of a super group right there.

I wonder were the other recently deceased dogs called Jimi Hendrix and Bill Wyman??

I find it odd that someone can be so irritated by a common mispronunciation and yet write with no regard for punctuation or capitalisation.

Also, the origin of "gets my goat" (there's no "up" in the expression) is disputed; theories include a drift from "goad" and a reference to the old practice of keeping a goat with horses to keep them calm.

Just on the theme of somewhat strange and amusing signs, I came across the one below on the side of a road while driving around Killarney around a month ago. I had my camera at the time so snapped it up.

We've no radios in Kerry so public-service announcements have to be visual and in public areas.

Entertaining as it is to watch, Darts is a game and not a sport.
The next person to tell me, without a hint of irony, "Phil Taylor is an athlete" gets a slap.

according to legend, Taylor was inspired after a private tour of Manchester United's training ground

He was brought into a room with a load of treadmills, with Roy Keane running away on one of them
The guide introduced him as "Phil Taylor, World Champion". Keane replied "former World Champion" and kept on running

Dunno if it's true or not, but I've heard it a few times
