Non-LOI here, but can't help but feel incredibly jealous of the ongoing work at Windsor Park and the incredible stadium Linfield are going to be left with once it's completed.

At 18,000 seats, it's a comfortable sized stadium and will be the envy of every club in the Irish League and indeed of every club on this entire island.

Except for the fact that its located in the village

Not sure what sort of point you're trying to make as it's pretty irrelevant to my post.

Dreadful area of town, and not just because of the sectarianism.

I do think it's too big for Linfield though. In the old ground, with around 1,000 people there (or less), the atmosphere is just awful. Any noise is lost in the vastness of the space.
Akin to how Thomond was with Limerick really.

Whats the latest with the supposed redevelopment of the Brandywell that was supposed to start two months ago now ?

Ha, 29th May we were told.

Delayed because of any number of excuses.
Take your pick from:
•Delay of funds from OFMDFM
•Awaiting approval which was delayed because of Casement
•Bats
•Contractor hasn't been found yet
•Greyhound fellas haven't been accommodated yet

New date for commencement is August-September...ish.

The idea of demolishing the entire far side of the ground in the middle of the season was a bit bonkers
whats the prospect of it getting started in 2015?

With our current attendance figures, the Southend stand would easily suffice.
As for a start date, bah, I'd be surprised to see it this season.

That's a very honest piece by the Dundalk chairman, hopefully the Oriel lease can be sorted .

I along with the majority of Dundalk fans would be devastated if we ever had to leave Oriel (The Home of Football)

Agreed but I wouldnt be too bothered to see 'The Home of Football' signage disappear - its about as subtle as 'We are the Champions' over a Tannoy in July 2013:)

Well it is the "Home of Football" in Dundalk so I dont see an issue with it. When i was growing up, it was every teams aim to get to the Dundalk Schoolboys Cup Final so you could play in Oriel

It s not a major deal but it is hardly an original or accurate 'slogan'. It isnt 'the' home of football as much as our home of football. It seem a tad arrogant imo but so be it. I vaguely remember Micky Duffy wanting to have a 'Fortress Oriel' sign erected as we languished in the bottom 3 of the 1st Division, and a 'This is Oriel' over the players tunnel. Fortress Oriel is less cringeworthy if it was done these days. There are many greater things for myself or Dundalk fans to be bothered about!

If they complete the one stand the whole way around, the Brandywell will be a fine ground.

The "This Is" ground signs have always made me cringe. They're begging for somebody to break in and grafitti "No ****" under it.

I doubt the youth of today care enough about the LOI one way or another to be bothered with that.

Great documentary on last year 'the crazy gang' (Wimbledon) Fash or Vinny Jones did just that to the 'this is Anfield ' sign, they made sure they were out first and took a black marker to it and wrote 'bothered' then sat in a circle on the pitch laughing, I think they beat them too. Horrible club, but a funny story all the same.

Ah here! Minnows looked down on upon in a big way and an amazing rise up through the leagues and the cup win - proper 'roy of the rovers' story. Yes there were a few characters among them but horrible? Not in my opinion. Hope AFC climb through the leagues once again and so far have done well to have got back in to league football. Eh shall try and make it on topic by saying if they had ever moved to Dublin would a LoI team have ground shared. I doubt it would have taken much away from LoI support as even at Milton Keynes they are still not considered that much - time for them to lose the 'Dons'!

They were more like the Jordan F1 team ruffling a few more prestigious feathers than a club to be knocked - apart from the Dublin opportunistic plans.

Very quiet on Stadium updates, you would presume this would be the best time of the year to do the construction on all these ground upgrades or new grounds

Allegedly, the bulldozers are in and the Glentoran stand is being brought down.
Closed for tomorrow night's match anyway, though we've been told that before.

The Markets Field Limerick looks impressive on the highlights last monday nite on TV, the main stand looks well and behind one goal end the stand for away fans, but the far side and other goal end really let it down considering all the great work recently, a bit of an unfinished building site look came to mind.

Any hope that this will be corrected in the close season with further work, terracing and cover?

Anyone Limerick fans with some insight!

Its not a new build. Its a refurb of some areas of what is a massive site (think terrland *2 + car park)

Ya it doesn't look great on telly. In fairness beside the stand looks fairly bad, especially as people can't stand there with works going on. Should look a bit better when its finished off.

Plans to enclose both ends of the new Comer Stand with glass at Deacy Park have been shelved as it will cost €65k. Instead, the same funds will be spent on the old stand where visiting supporters are seated. The roof will be completely resealed to make it 100% dry and the TV gantry will be upgraded to give cameras a better angle.

The capacity for the League Cup Final on September 19th has been set at 4,400 by the FAI. Strangely, spectators will not be allowed stand behind either goals.

The old club house, where the dressing rooms where located until recently, it to be refurbished. It is hoped to house a social club including a .........bar!

Haha, the plans for glass ends on the Comer stand really excited a few folks I know in Galway. The only complaint they've had about watching games there is just how cold it is in that stand.

Great to see a club investing in their facilities. Well done.

I wonder if the work on the old stand involves removed some of the poles. Ruins the view, in my opinion.

Watched that Docu twice and don't recall that story being featured at all. Also most of what Fashanu & Jones said in the Doc has since been disproven by former Wimbledon players and management and even opposition players. They basically told a load of bull**** and lies to play up to the cameras.

In my opinion, €0.5m is a good price for ownership of the YDC and the transfer of the lease. The club cannot afford to enter into a period of stagnation. The ground needs to be re-developed and pitch needs to be replaced.

Totally agree

It has 3 astro turf 5 a side pitches bringing in what €1000 a week tops

Their is never anything on in the YDC apart from the odd charity night.

Its biggest waste of space ever built!

Maybe it was another show I saw it in then, but I definitely remember it, then again for some reason I was telling a few guys today about Ireland v Switzerland in 1985, oh how the mind works at times !!
