We could have a few very decent stadiums in the next few years, Turners Cross, Inchicore, Tallaght, New Dalymount, New United Park. Looks good for the league
Not to mention Athlone Town's stadium when they get another stand built, it's top class...
(and also the new brandywell...)
Good week for grounds, ****e week for football, take the good with the bad.

Well if you read the planning application it is for Drogheda, Co. Meath.
Thanks to you guys being in the wilderness for so long we have outgrown Co. Louth and now need to take in a part of Co. Meath as well :D
Yawn....
Oh how forgetful of me, your consistent avg. crowd of under 2000 in you supposed 'best years' in the clubs history led me to forget how massive a club you really have become!
New Pictures from Terryland here http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/menu-items/photo-gallery.html .The builders are finished on friday and then the finishing touches will be added over the weekend for Next Weeks 2 Big Games.

Which 4 would you rate above it?
As a united fan for over 28yrs now its a sense of real pride to see the ground looking so well and a pitch as good as any in Ireland or the UK.

Top 4... Turners Cross, Tolka Park, and Dalymount are all bigger stadiums, and in the end it all comes down to how much the ground can hold... At the moment Terryland can still only hold 2,500 seated max.
It looks very nice though and I hope another stand goes in one of the ends, lovely ground.

No it doesn't. Sure rarely if ever do those grounds approach a sell out. Compare Tolka to Turners Cross, Tolka may hold more but it's a dilapated wreck in places. Dalymount has one excellent stand, one crumbling unused terrace, one hybrid of a crumbling terrace with bolted in seats and a half decent uncovered half of a stand with an ugly gaping hole of a car park. I'm aware Belfield Park isn't great so don't bother as I'm not the one making these claims.

Jodi Stand is the best stand in the country, but the rest of Dalymount is ancient, Tolka is a kip, most of it resembles St Mels with seats. With a capacity of around 5000 Terryland will have a great atmosphere for big games unlike Tolka or Dalymount with 4000/5000 scattered around. Turners Cross is Undoubtedly the best ground in the country at the moment.

I know it's being biased but I do think the Showgrounds is still better than Terryland. We have plenty of room for improvement though...

Here's the latest pics of the Belfield Bowl courtesy of Schumi: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v239/SchumiUCD/Bowl/25th%20July/ . The pictured stand has 1,500 seats. It's also having facilities like toilets and one or two shop units installed.

The Showgrounds was like Berlin after the Blitz the last time we played there and terryland has actually 3,350 seats now.
Tolka is falling apart and Dalymount bar the Jodi Stand is like a derelict Building site.Just because a ground is bigger doesnt mean its better.

Yeah, the Holocaust of the German people was dreadful. Just like the slave trade that brought the Irish to across the ocean.

New Brandywell? I thought there wasn't going to be much movement on the Brandywell for a while yet! have the council finally decided to get their act together on this one?

Wake up and smell the coffee, Sligoman. I was in the Showgrounds a few weeks ago and it has progressed backwards in three years. There is no front wall, the seats in the 'away' stand were mouldy, the roof was rusty and there are loose stone chippings behind the goal where the dressing room used to be. Oh, and there was a fun fair in the car park.
Terryland was described on RTE by Eamonn Dunphy as "a cabbage patch" many years ago but it is looking great now.
The Showgrounds is a lovely ground and it crates a nice atmosphere and Terryland has always been in it's shaddow. Times have changed and the Showgrounds has been pipped at the post by Terryland.
All we need now is a team to beat Sligo Rovers. :D

Some pics of the Bowl here I posted over in the UCD forum.
Having been to both Terryland Park & The Showgrounds recently i would have to say IMHO that Terryland is a supern little ground, for me easily only second to the recently developed Turners Cross.
In saying that i was also impressed with the strides Sligo are obviously making with their set up as well, nice stand and TBH for away support the smaller stand isnt the shabbiest thing i've stood in at an way game! Great arrangement with the training facilities right next to the ground as well, given its close location to the town centre the land could obviously be flogged for a bucktload of cash so i admire what Sligo are doing!
To be fair both clubs should be commended for their progress off the pitch, i look forward to the days when we're in a position to do something similar!

What is the capacity of the seated area?
What are the future plans for the Bowl and when will they be implemented?

The seated area is 1,500. 840 are uncovered, which have just been installed.
Future plans include covering the new seats and building further stands around the pitch. No time date has been put on this.

To expand a little on the other points, cover the remainder of the current stand, build an identical stand across on the other side and then finally to build small stands behind each goal which I think would bring the capacity up to 4,500 seats. When will that happen? I'd say over five years if ever.
Not having a go at any one club but this talk of 5 year plans for various stadia are just dreams. Its too easy to say "we have a dream of X capacity stadium" without any solid plans or funding behind it.
Only fully funded, planning enabled & scheduled plans should be discussed here.

The new ground as we have it is perfectly appropriate to our current needs. We also have ultimate plans for a four sided ground if we ever need it/if the FAI ever start looking at kicking us out for off field issues again. I think future phases are pie in the sky until then, but we always have plans to wave at the FAI.
Agree that there's no point discussing "plans" here. That's why Drogs' ground has its own thread.

I thought we were going to sell Tolka and move elsewhere (although in a poor stadium)....
The 1,500 seater stand is alright. I thought it was only a 500 seater stadium.
I think Athlones stadium is pretty cool.... You can probably put a second tier above it and get 25,000 in the door if it goes the whole way around.
