Correct me if I'm wrong but is Turners Cross now the only all seated, all covered stadium in Republic of Ireland?!

Hi Eamoss, thanks for the photo, it looks nice but I still can't understand much of the other sides of the ground, I know there is (was) a weird shaped stand somewhere.

It's mistery to me why it's so hard to build a decent stand in Ireland (where living and economic standards are higher than most EU countries); if you have a look at the other grounds in Europe through Google Earth or Windows Maps you see they look better even in small countries' lower divisions. How can that be? I know football in Ireland is having a hard time and I am aware about problems with GAA, still I think a ground like Flancare Park in Longford should be the starting point for every club interested in joining the LOI. I can't stand those temporary stands popping up in Ireland, they are so common in Italy too (at least you don't have many athletics running tracks)

Last year I started collecting aerial photos and news about past and present football grounds in Ireland; to write a book would take too long (I spent six long years to write Stadi d'Italia) and I guess few people would be interested but I think it wouldn't be bad if we could all work on a website like these excellent pages

No roof on the terrace. You can pay extra and go into the stand if you want a roof. ;)

Why are Shams allowed put their crest on the glass but had to put manky seats in so people wouldn't think it's their ground?

I'm still trying to figure out how 28,000 people once fitted into Oriel. Anyone like to enlighten me?

It never happened thats why, record attendance was 22,000 i think, Celtic 3rd Round Euro Cup '79, we had temporary seating all along one side, maybe even two sides, long time ago !

That was 18,000 but even so is incredible! Been at a game where there was about 12,000 at it was damn uncomfortable. As far as im aware temporary stands were installed for that 18000 crowd (v Celtic 1979 EC 2nd round 2nd leg)

That photo of oriel must be 2 years ago, the stand is almost unrecognisable from today, there is a new roof and complete new sides with panels also replaced so you can actually see through !!!

It looks in a terrible state in this photo.

V Galway I think, and the fans on the way terrace arent galway fans either, this is our fans en route to or from their ht pint !

Tallaght Stadium Update

As well as confirming the first match in Tallaght on Saturday March 14th, the club can confirm that the SDCC will be building a stand on the east side of the stadium and that this 3,000 capacity permament structure is expected to be open in June. The current (main) accommodates 3,300 spectators.

Will the new stand be a copy of the existing one. If the long term ambition is to have the stand go all the way around it would'nt make much sense if it was different.

Isnt this the side that Away fans go, so where will we have to go in the mean time, we can hardly stand in the building site and it wouldnt make sense to mingle the fans in the other stands beacuse lets face it, there is going to be trouble no matter what happens at these games!

Speak for yourselves.
For one of the games last season Cork City supporters were in the same stand as Rovers and there was no trouble in the stand.

Indeed, iirc Rovers and Pats shared stands without fuss, and there aws very, very few incidents of any kind at Rovers games either inside or outside the Tolka Park.

Well Rovers waited outside the ground by the gate on one occasion and on the other shouted abuse at us from that little bar place under the stand and smashed our bus window. As it was my first time goin Rovers away I just thought it was the normal way they brhave themselves:mad:Disgusting really. These people arent "fans" in my eyes though. So it occured no mtter what stand we were in.

If you have 500 odd season ticket holders, you mightn't be certain. Personally i hope someone who's been to more away games than you gets one. Only one trip to Rovers?

We'll have a good bit more than 150 looking to go though....so what else can you do. Season ticket holders are the only way to go IMO.

They should take there time and get the stadium perfect in stead of rushing some pile a crap.
With Europe will the clubs with small stadiums now go here instead of Dalyer and tolka when its finished fully?

You mean will Drogheda? Probably not as Dalymount is considerably nearer to Drogheda than Tallaght.

If we were to play in any other stadium for our European games, it would most likely be in Longford, I believe.
