Nothing huge.

Just wondering, in the 15 months since this thread was started, what's gone on at each of the clubs? (Also just by way of getting updates from the various clubs)

Athlone - moved into Lissywollen, or at least a quarter of it anyway
Bohs - sold Dalyer with plans to have someone else build a ground in Harristown. Currently held up by an objection from the shopping centre?
Bray - new canvas stand on one side to replace Croke Park
Cobh - new stand in place
Cork - new stand in place
Derry - do they now own the Brandywell? Plans to do up the rest of the ground.
Drogheda - where's this at? No news in ages.
Dundalk - Terrace done up and the ground generally tidied up.
Finn Harps - new ground still in the pipeline.
Galway - new stand in place
Kildare - nothing doing?
Limerick 37 - moved ground again; any plans to do it up?
Longford - nothing, but then not much obvious really needed
Monaghan - no news
Shamrock Rovers - work on Tallaght to recommence shortly
Shels - still spending Tolka; no news on a move out?
Sligo - no news?
St Pat's - new stand in place, then removed. No other news?
UCD - new ground in place
Waterford - new stand almost in place
Wexford - planning permission holding up new stand

Certainly a remarkable amount of work done in a short space of time.

Is the Croke Park comment a Neil Jordan reference?

Also Sporting Fingal are in playing out of the Morton Stadium

CHANGES CONTINUE AT KINGSPAN CENTURY PARK
Wednesday, 06 February 2008

As Monaghan United strive towards improving facilities at Kingspan Century Park fans will notice some changes when they arrive at the ground for the new season. Firstly they will pass through new electronic turnstiles on their way into the ground. Once there they will see the new enclosed Press facilities at the back of the stand and they will also be able to keep an eye on the scores thanks to a new electronic scoreboard!

These changes are a start of things to come at United’s homeground as they endeavour to make the ground more and more user friendly.

Limerick 37 - moved ground again; any plans to do it up?

Just this morning one of the FAS lads was painting a gate. :)

In fairness since we came back to the Jacks there have been huge improvements.

Electronic Turnstiles.
Tarmacing around the entrance area and the front of the Shed.
Gravelling behind one of the goals.
Hacking down the jungle on the far side.

Don't get me wrong it's still an absolute kip but it's nowhere near as dangerous a kip as it once was.

No real plans for future development mind you as we are waiting to see will this Re-Generation Board give us a concrete handout in the form of a 7,000 seater stadium across the road. :ball:

The stand in richmond was put up for the uefa cup game
it was taken down after that as the seats were only rented from the same crowd who did the seating on the terraces in lansdowne.
It was put back up for our last 3 home games and the seats are now owned by the club so its a permanent tempory stand ;)
The talk at the last patron meeting was that there wont be much more done to richmond until a time when we're actually selling all or most of the 3000approx seats we have now

Nope, that's going to be the home stand afaik. There's a bit of unrest at the moment over the season ticket plans actually - not sure if it's been resolved yet. Basically Utd decided that instead of giving season ticket holders the same reserved seat for every game they were just going to have a dedicated block for season ticket holders who could sit anywhere in the block. Absolute disgrace imo - I've been sitting in the same seat for the last 10 years with the same people around me.

So what happens when you arrive late for a match? As it stands, I know that my seat is there so when I get stuck at work I can still make it albeit a little late. It smacks of the club not giving a toss about the season-ticket holders - many of whom have often paid in at the gate when the club has been cash strapped. For the sake of sitting down for an hour and doing out a seating plan, the club is losing a lot of goodwill.

AFAIK, about the only people that will be over there will be the home singers, more than likely in the first white block towards your left. Away fans to stay in the Main Stand.

Well you don't know it all then. :p
Many season ticket holders, non-singers to a man, are heading over to the new stand, including meself and everyone who normally sits around me.
The plan is to keep the away fans in the same place as always, but to be honest bar one or maybe two visiting sides I don't think there'll be enough to bother about segregating.

I saw it on TV roday. Kerr was interviewed on RTE news about Trapper Tony; you could see the new permanent stand in the background and it looks well.

At last, Richmond is starting to look like a complete football ground.

First official (i.e. non training game) in the Belfield Bowl was last night. It's similar to Belfield Park in that it's one main stand, with paving the rest of the way around and a hill the far side, but the stand is concrete, 1500 seats and has full lighting. Standing is permitted all the way around the pitch except the far side, where building work is still going on (to put in a TV gantry and press box). Behind either goal, there's two layers of "terracing" (OK, there's a step, but it is intended as terracing to increase the capacity). Toilets are much bigger than Belfield Park, the shop is bigger, the seats are nice (solid seats, decent space, don't fold out, although the back is very short). Even the poles don't block the view as much as in Belfield Park, and in any event will be gone in a couple of years. All in all, a massive improvement on Belfield Park, although I'd stil rather the location were the same.

Should have a couple of photos up in the UCD section later.

Whats was the pitch like? Belfield Park was usually a fantastic surface, wouldn't have such high hopes for the Bowl given the rugby use.

It was very sandy and a bit bobbly, certainly when compared to the Park. However, I'd say once the rugby season finishes, and the proper maintenance of the pitch gets underway, it'll be grand.

I think the wooden fence in Belfield Park was nicer for leaning against. I think the best place to watch a game is from the wheelchair section at the left of the stand.

Installing scoreboards would be a small but welcome development at all grounds.

Could the FAI negotiate a deal to install them at all grounds for a decent price?

The idea is usually that it is something which basically is paid for by a sponsor/sponsors. In NEC, Netherlands, their scoreboard had a certain sponsor for every match event - e.g. one company for throw ins, another for free kicks, and presumably the highest paying for goals.

Why did Monaghan install electronic turnstiles?

Electronic turnstiles are a disaster. Ours were installed by a company recommended from what I have heard by the FAI and they keep breaking down. They don't take the punishment of people pushing against them very well.
