The sod turning ceremony for Harps new stadium will be in mid May according to the Donegal Democrat today.
Still a few minor legal hoops to be jumped through but fairly soon the contractors should be on site.

Yes, Harps sod turning is on Monday week - 12th May. Construction could start within a month. 2009 could well be our last season at Finn Park as eighteen months is the timeframe given for the completion of the new stadium.
The new stand at the RSC opened for yesterdays FAI Junior Cup final and was filled with Carrick fans who enjoyed their teams 2-1 win. It makes its Eircom League debut on Friday night v Wexford youths. Its a fine stand with far better toilet facilities than the cramped ones in the older stand and makes the RSC look a decent stadium now.

Pics from the Carrick v Killester game in the RSC yesterday.
The New Stand (Kilbarry side) holds 1760 while the old one (Cork Road side) seats 1270 bringing the seating capacity of the RSC up to 3030.

The one morning I forget to have a look when I'm passing! I'll take a stroll over later and check it out. Good news.

It's hardly the time or the place for a Village People tribute gig.
Ah Sheridan, he of the light bulb thread, I was expecting better than that :)

That is typical 'Irish', The man uses the digger to remove a plant instead of doing the proper way and more quicker with a shuffle.

That's great news for the Blue's, going to be a big crowd at this one wouldn't be suprised if it will be the record attendence in the First Division this season.

There will be two offices, in which 1 will be used by WUFC and toilets (including for disabled) underneath. The new stand will seat 1700 patrons bringing total covered seating capacity in the RSC up to 2955.
There is also talk of the extension of the existing stand which could happen in the medium term.
What's the story on parking at the RSC for tomorrow? Looking forward to the game big time

The new TV gantry at Terryland is almost a year old now and is largely unused. GUFC requested RTE to submit a proposal as to the design of the TV gantry. The suggested specifications from RTE were accepted and construction began. GUFC were keen that TV cameras would be located on top of the old stand and would show off the new stand. Unfortunately, TV cameras cannot use the new gantry because both corner flags (on the same side of the pitch as the gantry) cannot be picked up by the cameras.
Presently, RTE shove their camera man in the brand new stand.
Anyway, a use for the new TV gantry was discovered last Friday by none other than Harps' manager Paul Hegarthy who was serving a ban from the playing area. He perched himself up on the gantry for the entire game shouting at his players and making telephone calls, allegedly to the bench.

There are plenty of pitches where this isn't the case - many Magners' league grounds for a start - All that happens is that the director switches to a different camera for action out of sight of the gantry camera - unless that is the only one there of course.....

Actually, this is the case in Tolka as well, thinking about it, and it looks terrible on TV.

There's a portion of the pitch at Tolka (by the touchline/corner flag at the Riverside/Ballybough end) which doesn't have line-of-sight with the gantry. Mind you, as big a club as Udinese used to suffer from the same problem (I don't know if it's still the case.) Huge poles (lower-case, although I've found the upper-case variety in my way on occasion in Ireland) obscuring parts of the pitch.

Does it look further out of town than it actually is? could be used as an excuse if crowds arent what they expected.
Cynics use to say Buckley Park was too far out of town to get supporters to trek all the way out but I could never understand that statement. You either going to support your team or not!!

Local bus transport in Dundalk shuts down around 8pm - I'm sure it'd be similar in Drogheda.. Not too useful with a match ending at 9.40pm.

Ancillary development including the construction of internal roads, surface car
parking (174 spaces), a basement level car park (1,095 spaces),

So will St.Annes be open at all this season? How long till the roof is complete?
Also, does anyone know why the Shed End plans for a corporate section at the back were shelved?
A face
08/07/2008, 12:07 AM
Never heard anything about a corproate section and hopefully there'll never be one.
Yup, that was in the original plan but it got shelved, hopefully for good. A corporate section has to be in one of the main stands, not behind a goal. It just wont work otherwise.
The roof will take at the most two months and it seems the St. Annes stand will be closed for the entire period
Yeah, i heard 3 months actually. Cant believe it will take that long anyway though. It'll be worth waiting for though i suppose.

Yesterday was the last day for objections/appeals to an Bord Planeala for the Drogs stadium. None were lodged. Full steam ahead now.:D
Harps awarded another €500,000 funding for the new stadium.
I see Dundalk get a quarter of a million as well.
Full list here: http://193.178.1.186/grants_funding/2008_sportgrants.html
€400k for Monaghan United also.
2.75 million for Tallaght!

Beaten to the Tallaght Stadium one. Great to see the funding going ahead anyway. It's flying up at the moment, plenty of work being done on the playing surface too. Great to see.
