View Full Version : Stadium Updates (All Clubs)
Was at Finn Harps AGM on sunday night they gave a update on the new stadium project
Up to late may/early June 2022 all was progressing smoothly then out of the blue government just stopped taking the clubs calls or responding to letters/emails, until September when they came back in contact with a big list of new demands for the club to progress the project. The club currently working their way though those demand and a cautiously optimistic to have actual physical work at the site by March/April 2023

Think you're confusing a few stories there.
March 1st diggers on site at new stadium.
The other part is to do with Finn Park.

The FAI are seeking €1 billion euro in infrastructural investment from the Government over the next decade (€100m * 10) to improve LoI stadia:

Not LOI but Cork GAA have managed to spend 100 million on a ground where there's no seats or roof at both ends, bonkers!

We can scoff, but it's their third stadium (by capacity, Semple being slightly bigger), comparable in capacity with Landsdowne, and they own it outright. I attended a conference held at the conference centre built into it. I wish the FAI were that incompetent.

Brandywell pitch will need replaced this time next year.
https://www.derryjournal.com/sport/football/brandywell-stadium-3g-pitch-could-be-unfit-for-derry-city-beyond-2023-warns-fai-3993468
It's a decent income for the council by having the plastic, but you'd imagine grass would be option they'll go for. If they wanted, they could also put a plastic pitch into the showgrounds, which is currently grass, so would still have the income source.

Micro plastics becoming an issue as well from Allweather’s government /FAI grants are to be looked at any maybe withdrawn

The EU is due to ban microplastics, such as those used to infill artificial pitches within the next year or two. The alternatives are much more expensive, so it's likely that as a lot of pitches reach end of life they may have to revert to grass.

*I realise the Derry article does mention this but there's a bit more in the Examiner article.

Surely the benefits and cost savings of all-weather pitches mean that they'll revert to non-plastic alternatives instead for the crumbs ?
Also in Brandywell news today Derry want to immediately put in a behind the goal (away end side) covered terrace.

Would the limited points of access/exit to Richmond Park still not present an issue for capacity, standing or otherwise ?

Presumably that would mean 'safe standing' sections, as opposed to the classic open terrace.

I see United Park is going to be named after a pub for this season. Interesting choice given the moral high ground that Drogheda, and it’s very vocal former chairman, have taken in the last few years.

If t was literally an alcohol sponsor - like a beer brand or an off-license chain - then I'd agree. But pubs are a different animal IMO. They don't just sell alcohol, and are often important neighbourhood facilities.
Also - there are LOI clubs who sell alcohol/operate bars themselves, but I'm not aware of any who run gambling companies ?

Sounds like common sense to me. It’s all gone too PC in Ireland these days. People like pubs that why they are in every community in the country.

I don't know how much it cost but it is certainly something other clubs should look at to boost attendances. It will help create a good atmosphere.

For anyone with an Independent.ie account, some photos of the final touches being added to Mounthawk Park:
https://www.independent.ie/regionals/kerryman/news/photos-of-mounthawk-park-as-the-countdown-to-kerry-fcs-opening-game-is-on-42314516.html
The main takeaway is that work on the terracing means that there may be additional capacity, but an engineering report will determine the final figure.

Away terrace will be 450 people and will have a roof.
It will also open the full Des Kelly to Bohs fans which will mean the entire capacity of Dalyer will go from about 3.5k to 4.5k this year. I'd be targeting an average of above 3.5k tbh

That'll be a good capacity for Bohs - probably the biggest in the league after Rovers, Cork and Pats ? Will be interesting to see what demand is like over the season.

If it holds circa 450 - 500 then Pats, Shels, Rovers, Derry, Cork and Dundalk should fill it. It will be a good indicator for the capacity of the new stadium as to whether it will be big enough.

Well Pates brought a lot more than 450 to Dalymount last year , so a lot of Pats fans will miss out this year

Can't say for certain but I think the height of that stand in Dalymount will be the same as what's proposed for the modular structures in the new Harps ground.
Given that the Dalymount terrace will hold 450 and is 23m length and the terraces at Harps are set to hold 1,400 across the width of a pitch.
I've been in the modular stands at Crusaders. They're not as nice underfoot as concrete but they do seem to represent a genuine opportunity to improve grounds at a lower cost. I'd wonder will we see a few more over the next few years. A shelter and an unobstructed view isn't a bad way to watch a football match.

Same lads building the stand in Dalymount are the lads working on the new Harps ground too. Certainly a similar structure, possibly a similar size. Meant to be incredible in terms of atmosphere.

That's a strange post Pateen. As we all know, the capacity of grounds like Dalymount is what it is. Even when the council redevelop the place it'll still have a smaller capacity than Turner's Cross (and it'll prove insufficient over time IMO). That's just the way it is in the league. Cork may consider themselves lucky to have a landlord that does everything for you - though God knows Cork football has played in enough grounds over the years (and lost some of them too in the process).

No word on a temporary stand for this season, but last we heard big Phil was talking about a permanent structure for the start of next season :D would make any temporary structure going in this season unlikely.

ETA: would be unlikely to be an away section. Though would probably have to incorporate the existing curve somehow

Looks good , i understand going for the size they did with the ground to be redeveloped , but pity they could'nt have gone for maybe 800 capacity. Be good to see three sides of the stadium in use .
I wonder could Pats do something like that at the Shed End ? Would there be enough room ?
