Not one LOI club, SDCC for Tallaght or the Munster/ Galway FA for ED Park/ The Cross listed on the sports capital grants today, bit mad? Shirley some of them applied for something?!

Well from the Tallaght pov SDCC already have all the funds in place so they probably didn't reply or were well down the list.

LOI clubs, local authorities and FAI regional training centres can apply for an extra €50,000 as a regional project; those projects are being announced in a few weeks.

Cheers! Thought it was a bit odd! Never knew LOI was covered specifically on the regional ones!

A couple of curiousities in there :

- Letterkenny Rovers get €89,500 for an all weather (presumably astro) pitch whilst Letterkenny Community Centre get another €89,500 for an astro pitch. Would it not make more sense to build one and encourage both to use it ?
- Ballybofey United FC get €36,000 for a new playing facility, at the same time that Finn Harps have a stalled stadium development next door in Stranorlar. Again - would it not make sense to fund the bigger project to a better standard, and enable it to be more widely used by BUFC etc in return ?

I'm being deliberately blithe here, but it feels like NASA will have figured out warp speed and interstellar travel before Finn Harps new stadium is built. Shamrock Rovers stadium took almost 10 years and its half finished. I hasten to blame Finn Harps the club for it, it seems, in that case, it's bureaucratical wranglings that are holding it up. It's just frustrating as a neutral, so I can only imagine what Harps fans feel like.

It's terribly frustrating, if not downright embarrassing at this stage. I would be happy for them to abandon it and do up Finn Park. Don't know how long we can keep going there without serious upgrades

Cause of course it'd be impossible for them to use the huge brand new changing rooms in the main stand oh no can't do that

Lads this is an absolute disgrace. I had no idea this **** was going on. Surely the FAI need to get involved. Galway are a great addition to the league and this BS will hold the club back.

How long is it since work began? and is it feasible/worthwhile to do up F.P. and I hope this it not heretical but would Letterkenny not be a better place to have a stadium?

Enough of The Letterkenny talk. Harps belong in Ballybofey as much as Sligo belong in Sligo and not Tubbercurry

I lost track of when work began. There is a committee in place for the stadium and a few new faces added who have, by all accounts, been very impressive and progress has been made.
It's extremely frustrating from a Harps point of view. Everyone at the club wants this.

FP would take huge money to get anywhere near up to scratch. Apart from the pitch (which is tough with the draining going out to the river) the changing rooms, seating, stand, media facilities, etc all need huge upgrade work also.

On the Letterkenny point, there was a "debate" in the 90's about moving to Letterkenny but it was never really taken on. I'm from Letterkenny, live in Letterkenny but wouldn't like to see the club move.

Possibility that Institute will be joining Derry in the new Brandywell.
I'd say they'd prefer the St. Columb's Park option though.

Small update on the Harps stadium tonight at the clubs awards night. Expecting a big announcement by February on the re-commencing of work, or something to that effect.

Yep. Going in this month, we hear.
And yes, artificial. Not great, but can understand the council's reasoning behind it.

Why didn't they put the artificial pitch where the greyhound track is going.

I can only assume it's because they want to be able to hire out the main stadium as often as possible to maximise revenue.

Wasn't Ballybofey Harps in the first place to warrant a need for change! Will still be on the banks of the river Finn, in the Finn Valley.

Took me years to find out where they played in the days before the internet. You'd see a League of Ireland table in a year book, you knew which were Dublin teams, but were buggered trying to find out where Finn Harps were from.

Construction on 2,195 seater South stand to start next month. Should be completed by summer 2018. It's gonna be very big from looking at the plans, 20 rows.
Will bring the stadium up to Cat 4 status with regards capacity. (8,000 seats)

Back in the day press reports always referred to the venue as Ballybofey and didn't use the stadium name in the same way that Arsenal played at Highbury and West Ham at Upton Park rather than Arsenal Stadium and Ann Boylen Ground.

So the regional grants were announced after the capital ones a few weeks ago, the FAI got:

€74,000 for equipment for grassroots and €56,000 for Ferrycarraig Park

DCC got 65k for Dalyer

Only one on the rejected list LOI related are Dundalk who were refused a grant for kitting out the YDC with a Health and Fitness suite. The club have already mentioned spending about 50/60k on getting that done recently themselves.

Word around town, the takeover will be complete next week in Oriel and work will begin to build a stand on ShedSide (Shed will still be in operation on match nights)

Town end and Away end to follow. Id imagine and rightly so, Away end will be left to last!
