Can Limerick please hurry up and move. Thats a horrible little ground you have! Felt like a real welcome to the first division today!

I read somewhere that the limerick regeneration plan has been "parked" for the forseeable future, what will that mean for your plans

1000 new seats gone into the Carlisle over the past week. Replacing the old red ones, no cover as of yet though for that side.

Great news. With another stand Terryland would be a top class little stadium.
There won't be a 3rd stand. The dressing rooms and facilities were never completed when the New Stand was built. Thats what the article refers to, but its definitely a positive development none the less

I read a piece in one of the papers last week about the re - development of the Carlisle Grounds. I then heard that a part (seats, crash barriers ect.) from Stokes old Victoria Ground were used in the re- development of an L.o.I ground.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

Cheers

yes this is true happened around 96/97 fai bought 6000 second hand seats from Stoke were sold on to clubs who had place for them they were installed in Bray-Galway-cobh and I think some went to sligo --Galway have since removed them and installed new seats in 2007--Bray removing them at the moment I think Bohs fans helped them out recently:D

Which of the 3 Limerick grounds is situated closest to the city centre and/or nearest to where most of the regular fans live.

Markets Field, Jackson Pk or Rathbane ?

Also what would be the preferred choice of fans, I`m guessing MF ?

Jackman Park is closest to the city centre, followed by the Markets Field, then Rathbane. The Markets Field and Jackman Park are actually quite close.
Don't really know if there is an areawhere the regular fans live - there are so few!

We definitely want to be in The Markets Field, but what we really need is our own ground, that we own (and don't have to pay to rent) and that we can spend money on improving, safe in the knowledge that we won't have to leave it.

The Markets Field also has 2 bars, both of which allow patrons to face the pitch (it's a greyhound stadium after all), so there would be a good source of revenue there also.

Thanks for info, I remember well the great Limerick side of the late 70`s/early 80`s when you played in front of regular crowds of 4-5,000, I remember very few Dlk wins too down there.

Always nice to hear of clubs looking to re-locate to their 'spiritual' home, so I hope it works out for you.

There are alot of terraced houses empty in front of jackman park, whats goign on there? If that land was bought then there would be huge potential for Jackman Park, right next to the train/bus station as well. That could be a seriously good ground then.

Supposedly a small number of them are due to be demolished, but probably not enough to allow development there yet. Jackman could become a fine ground alright but the surface will always be poor because of the number of junior games on it (it is the junior HQ afterall). Markets Field is what everyone wants...but we need to own it...or maybe secure a long term lease from the Corporation assuming they aquired it from the Greyhound board first.

Thats a fantastic development for football up there. How was the center funded, government grant? Hopefully it'll bring in revenue aswell. When the new seats go in Oriel Park will look a decent venue!

SHould be a gold mine for Dundalk. Looks superb.

I do laugh at the Youth Development Centre having a fully stocked bar but if it brings in corporates and the like to pay for it, it has to happen.

Drogheda put up a few sheets of galvanise, Dundalk put up a bloody big warehouse!

oriel
01/05/2010, 11:11 AM
From the Dundalk forum, it appears seating is going into Oriel on Tuesday, includes the current away section*, no coincidence work starting the day after the Rovers visit :D

As for the 'Bloody big warehouse' well its the most expensive one I`ve ever heard about at 4 or 5m euro (I forget precise cost) . Funded partly by a Sports Development grant but mainly by Gerry Matthews, owner.

The front of it (unseen from the stand side in oriel, ie it backs onto the shed) look slike it will be really impressive, nice window front, reception area, all overlooking the grass training pitch right next to it.

* There is a consideration to move the current away section to behind the town end goal, but a lot will need to happen first, some sort of stand built there and access changed for home fans to the shed. The ironic thing is, the plan might involve roofing the current away end ! Then this area can be used for home fans using the bar. Seems a bit unfair to what away fans had to endure but I think behind that goal will be a better solution long term for away fans. We shall see.

But this move appears to be a while off yet and this is only what I heard, nothing official.

The cost is around 5.5mill and the grant is only 250,000.but Gerry is hoping more will be made in the future..

Oh dont forget we have a car park under the center with parking for 150 cars also.

No "the Shead" as its called will be fitted with seats.
Alot more work will have to be done to the ground to bring it up to standard for european games,so it will be great to see it when its all done.

Here is a list of all the things that have to be done to get the ground up to category 2 for the euro games.yes 'games':messed:

In one of those artist's impressions I counted 12 bottles of Aftershock on a shelf in the bar.

What kind of youth development are you aiming for here?

But seriously, it looks great. Is that the main pitch it's right next to? It looks like there will be basically no room for a stand (apart from the small existing one) to be developed on that side.

I think as was previously said, there will be seats added to the shed side, as are going to be added infront of the main stand also. although nobody shedside will ever sit on the seats that are put in, they are a requirement for the Euro games!!.. Of which we hopefully will have many more to come. All tolled i think the development wil be upwards of €5mill with only a small investment of €250,000 from the Sports Council. (Anyone with an exact figure feel free to correct me!)

from a poster on our mb, thought it might be of some interest to the posters here

Dalymount Park was nominated as Ireland's Sporting Heritage's first "Site of the Month" due to the contribution of Bohs Fans to the project.

http://irishsportingheritage.com/site-of-the-month/march-2010/

Also, just to consider against the club's current predicament, it might be wrthy to consider that ...

Following the foundation of the FAI in 1921, Dalymount Park became the flagship stadium of the new association. It was deemed the most suitable to accomodate large crowds.

The Committee of Bohemians FC negotiated a loan, secured partly on the revenue and assets of the club and partly on personal guarantees of individual members. Had the venture failed, the individual members who provided guarantees would have faced serious personal financial losses.

Their names were R.H Beckett (Hon Sec), A. Byrne T.D., W.E. Crawford, W.J. Davis, J.A Doyle, J.A.C. Doyle, J.J. Doyle (President), T.J. Green (Hon. Solicitor), C.H. Heron (Trustee), Dr. W.F. Hooper (Committee), M.J. Kenny (Committee), H.W.J. Kerr (Committee), Patrick Lane, P.F. Sheridan, L.G. Sherlock, LL.D., J.I Wickham, (Hon Treasurer), F. Wynne (Vice-President). Some of these names are included in the above squad photo for that season.

During the course of the 1927/'28 Season

- The galvanised iron boundary was replaced with a ten-feet concrete wall having twenty turnstile houses and entrance and exit gates (cost £2,520).

- A steel stand was erected in the reserve enclosure and provison was made for fitting out club rooms, offices and training quarters underneath when more money was available (cost £5,833).

- A gymnasium and kicking alley were included with other improvements.

During the year over £6,931 had been borrowed, of which £1,491 had been repaid, leaving £4,900 still due by the club. The club also faced an additional debt of £4,000 on a sum of £9,546, spent on banking around the pitch over the previous five seasons.

The valuation of the ground increased from £110 to £250 during this period.

The youth development center will cost around €5.5 mill when finished.
I think seating is costing between €50,000 and €80,000.
And then there is the big list of other things that need to be done to bring the ground up to ufea cat.2 standard, like the tarmac that was done around the grounds, extra set of goals, new dug-outs and extra toilets for away fans and loads more things that you would never dream up in a mill years!

Have to say the first installment of seating into Oriel Pk looked very well tonight , at least 600 seats in already, installed in the terracing both sides of the stand, very 'Brandywell' look to it (on the area opposite their main stand), must get some photos up next week.

Next up will be replacing the 1,300 seats in the stand and seating the shed, prob down to 1,000 as all will be new style.

End of may deadline
