That actually will make a big difference, you use to get absolutely destroyed walking into Oriel there. A lick of paint now be nice

I think everyone is saying that now on the side of the stand, it looks even worse when it’s compared to the tarmac, a one day painting job would tidy it up no end.

Noticed the main stand in turners cross now has a small green wire fence running the whole length of the pitch, does it impede any view of the first or even second row I wonder? Previously in that stand the fans in section closest to the shed could actually put their feet up on the advertising hoardings. They will fairly closed in now.

Certainly looks like it blocks the view. What was the reason for that?

Think this is the first opposition manager to comment on the MF pitch this season? https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/sport/310722/derry-city-boss-kenny-shiels-describes-markets-field-as-absolutely-abysmal.html

It seemed to have had half of Kilkee beech added to it, better off bringing a sandwedge that footy boots. Its only a matter of time before someone breaks a leg as the amount of times both teams lost the ball because of the pitch of a what looked a simple control and then dived it to save the day is unreal. Usually you might get 1 or 2 a game , last night there must have been 10 to 12.

I hope that someone puts a dust sheet over that nice tarmac if the painters come in.

Link to article regards Markets Field pitch. When people like this are in charge you might as well give up and pull the plug. Before you read the piece just have a think about this the CEO of the LEDP Liam McElligott, added his thoughts on the pitch stating that, as owners of the ground, they were happy with its condition. “I think the surface speaks for itself. It is a top class pitch”. WHAT WHAT..... https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/sport/310929/exclusive-ledp-and-limerick-fc-respond-to-markets-field-pitch-criticism.html

I think having a concrete wall for safety reasons is not the greatest. Its a little bit higher than it used to be but nothing I think that makes a huge difference except for small kids. I think it looks better as well.

Should also point out that this article was written by a man who is on record as thinking no one has the right to complain about the state of the pitch because Limerick only rent it.

Think the comments only came because Shiels had his say. Every manager visiting the place should give it both barrels. As I've said elsewhere, blaming the weather is rich, considering that other pitches in the country are so much better.

In fairness, the majority of pitches have been crap this year. The only good quality pitch I've seen this season has been Longford. Missed the game in UCD, the pitch there is usually quite good.

Jeez that is pretty pathetic.........opposition managers and the Limerick manager are quoted as unhappy but the guy in charge is happy and has no concerns

Bray I saw recently, it was fine. Can't comment with direct experience too much on the others, but I know if they were as bad as Limerick's it wouldn't be just Stephen Kenny giving out.

Well other pitches are crap but the Markets Field is a whole other level, has to be seen to be believed it's full of sand and manages to bobble everywhere. You can see the hi lights
of last game v derry a nice handy ball forward bobbles about 3 ft off the ground, not good enough even for our crap team

The weather recently has been pretty good for grass growth that was affected by the late snow. Its been wet but the few warmer and sunnier days have made a big difference over the last few weeks. The isssue with Turners Cross pitch has been a lot of use. Markets Field is it maintenance or the ongoing who is going to be responsible for that cost? Nothing desperately bad league wise though. Rolling and aerating at this stage should sort out the worst of the ball bobbling about most places. Derry and Dundalk's pitches have stood up well to the inclement weather so far:p

Cork fans, is there a new addition to the away end in TC? Looks like a row has been added to the top, maybe wheelchair access possibly, or maybe my eyes need testing, then again I watched soccer rep quite late last night.

Yeah its great to see. The new stand will hold 2,200, which is quite big for an end stand. Should meet the capacity requirement for Cat4 after this.

Stute play Saturdays, mid-week would be Tuesday or Wednesday, so no real clashing issues.

Nice memories those two full time scores, I think the Macabi win was worth just under 0.5M on its own but the real money was after the BATE game which guaranteed EL group stages and that crack at Legia Warsaw.

Great to see Tallaght improving, hopefully we’ll get to use it again later this year.

How good would it be if Rovers had a similar scoreboard for their Euro games! Stadium modernization is key to improving the overall visual image of our League. When I got into the LOI in the late 90's, Turners X was a very pale shadow of what it is now, I'm not even sure the Main Stand was yet to be built. Last year it was good enough to host a National Team Friendly. Finn Harps eventually will have a new Stadium too. Would love to see major renovation to Oriel by the next couple of seasons.

That'd be fantastic to see. Another stand similar to the one being built would bring capacity up over 10,000 wouldn't it?

Buller

The new South stand will hold 2,195 seats. So double that onto the current capacity of 5,800 will bring it over the 10,000 mark. Not sure if any funding as been awarded for this yet, they're more than likely just exploring the option as it would be cheaper while the South stand is being constructed.

That would be great to see - kudos to SDCC for considering it.

It would hardly have much impact for regular Rovers league games, but it would open the door for the council to get additional revenue from other events

Any pics of how the current development is getting on?

Louth County Council have announced today that they are planning to develop a municipal athletics facility, 8 lane running track etc. To put their dedication to building municipal sporting facilities in contrast to SDCC this is planned for 2020 and the running track will be grass!! FFS a grass running track is their initial level of ambition. They have plans to eventually lay a professional running track but that will be after 2020 and by how long is anyones guess. So if that is the extent of their efforts on this project can you imagine what a municipal football 'stadium' would be!!
