Getting tight at the relegation zone:
Pants 2 -1 Forest
Provos 3 - 2 DBS
Harps 0 - 0 Sligo
Cobh 2 - 0 UCD.
The only interest in the division is at the bottom end now. UCD seriously under estimated Cobh judging by the team they put out.

Gates of Steel 1-0 Holidaysong FC :)
Wexford Boys 6-0 Sligo Starlets
Dundalk F.C 2-5 SRFC Sligo Rovers
Burton Albion FC 0-1 Patsys Fags
Pld W D L G A GD Pts
1 Wexford Boys 10 9 0 1 30 - 5 25 27
2 Holidaysong FC 11 7 2 2 25 - 11 14 23
3 Gates of Steel 11 7 2 2 22 - 10 12 23
4 Patsys Fags 11 7 0 4 18 - 11 7 21
5 SRFC Sligo Rvrs 10 4 3 3 24 - 16 8 15
The rest led by Burts and Ragball a further five points behind.
The Boys should win it, they won't make any silly underestimations;). Fags should pip us - they have the better squad and more experience, and we're missing our best defender for the next three or four games. Fags have 3 of the top five to play plus Ragball, Holidaysong have three plus Burts, while we have two plus Burts. Could be exciting.

A point not bad for me, although Pants and Shams did have to go and win then:mad:.

UCD seriously under estimated Cobh judging by the team they put out.
Didn't underestimate them at all. Need to get the young players' experience up and not much choice other than to pick the game against bottom of the league. Good performance by Cobh but we would have won comfortably if they played they way they had been in previous games (the 3 midfielders were the only ones to get above 6 against the Drunks).
Hee-uge win to remain competitive, but there's now another couple of teams dragged back into it. Shligo have only scored six times, but are one point from safety
Also killed off any title challenge though with the win. Nice to actually get back to late wins than late defeats.

the two late injuries ended up costing us dear, what are yisser opinons on substituting slightly injured players? is it always the safer option to take them off or is it worth the risk?
Depends. I would always take them off, except in the last crunch game of a season, or a cup final. It works for me, and I have had quite a bit of success in the few private leagues I play on. That and giving the players cocaine once a week - no drugs tests on Xperteleven, so who is to know.
also just on a side note, is there any limit to how big a thread can be? this must be the biggest thread on this forum by absolutely miles :)
Beaten by the Totty watch thread with around 8k posts, and positively walloped by the Word Association thread weighing in over 11k, I'm afraid.
I always leave them on the field, it slightly affects the rating the player gets, but no other big impact I've found during a game. Certainly not on the cocaine anyway..

*edit i've found it, its actually really crap, i dont want to have to be clicking on links to see totty dammit!!! and one of the links i did click on was pictures of a bloke
Those would date back to the before before time - the more recent ones are of mighty fine lassies with the pic in the post thanks to the evolving technologies, with the occasional inclusion of a sheep or goat thanks to the Blessed Martyr Ruben Sosa.

Only have one retirement myself (Sunnerborn). Just means I'll play 3-5-2 more or less all the time next season.
None here. Di Napoli plunders on.
3 Panties leaving..that has happened to me once and decimated the squad that I had. The squad was and is still rubbish, but still..
Lost three last season to retirment and only beginning to recover now, no one this season.

Yup, Camoranesi, Aboyne, and Pearcey all done at the end of the season. Was to be expected in fairness, hence Tone and Slaney being brought into the defence and Jensen into midfield - 20 yo 7 rated bargain of the century.
Will shop for one more midfielder before the start of next season - be that in the Premier or 1st div. :o

I'd hold out if I were you. Probably wouldn't get anyone to 100% and if you get someone with really bad form they will take a big hit in the CR.

How does the match experience thing work btw? I've a player who's played 9 times this season with 91% experience and another player who has played 4 with 99% experience:confused:

Really tight in the First now, three points separate first from fourth, thanks to a Fags win against the Boys, while both us and Holidaysong had good wins against the Sham Sligs and the Burts. Tonight's results guarantee us a minimum of 6th this season, making it the franchise's best season in the league ever, and our target for this season already achieved! We can take it easy from now on and use the remaining games just get experience up;)
We've got dramatically improving Ragball Rovers away next - that will be a tough one. Fags should beat the floundering Starlets. Big game is Boys against Song next week - if we manage to beat the Rovers, any result in that game is in our favour!

From what I have noticed the younger they are the quicker they get to 100% a 18 year old might take four games while a player thats say 28 might take say 9 games. I'm just picking numbers off the top of my head BTW not sure how many games it would take to get a player to 100%.

That makes sense to me based on my experience. I also have a suspicion that the position and how many players you standardly deploy there has an impact. A defender in my set up tends to accumulate experience faster than a midfielder does, and goalies normally build it up swiftly.

11/01/2009, 11:24 AM
That would make sense alright bluebeard I think the length of the season in another factor as well. The less games in a season the quicker players will get to 100% the more games and things are a bit slower.
Bluebeard
11/01/2009, 1:35 PM
Yup, that also makes sense too, Steno. I don't think that the duration on the pitch in a game counts though - a 2 minute sub appearance seems to count as much as a full 90. I am also pretty sure that the result and form have no impact on experience either, nor the importance of the game.

Pure domination of the Provos. Better than the Alberts?
Need to drop points before the season end as don't want 100% record to be denied by bottom team in the league. Reminds me of the time I missed out on top 2 by losing to the Sligs. :p ;)
Match experience explained here (http://www.xperteleven.com/xpertdaily.aspx?DartID=155&S=1&lang=FI):
Individual match experience needed for development
The number of matches a player needs to have played to get 100% of his potential development at the season update has earlier been a fixed number of matches for all players in all leagues. As this has been quite blunt and not always fair we have decided to make it more sophisticated. Instead of having a fixed number of matches, the number of matches required for a player to get 100% out of his potential development will depend on various factors like the number of rounds in the league and the surrounding team-mates. If the player plays with older and more skillful players that act as mentors, the player will need fewer matches than if the player plays with younger and less skillful players. This will be calculated in two parts where one part calculates the “mentor value” of the team part the player belongs to (defence or offence) and the other part calculates the “mentor value” for the whole team. There will be minimums and maximums for how much “experience” the player can get on one match. As earlier the goalkeepers won't need as much match experience as the other players. Another thing is that the players that is a leader will give more match experience to his team-mates than a similar player without the special quality of being a leader.
On the player’s page you will be able to check how much “match experience” the player has gained during the current season. This will be shown as a percentage. This percentage also shows how much your player will get out of the skill update at the season update. The maximum of the match experience is 100%. This means that if the player only has gained 15% match experience then the player will only develop 15% at the skill update.
The number of matches required to get 100% match experience during the season will be hard to say. But in leagues playing 14 rounds (like in our official league systems), the minimum number of matches required will be about 3 matches. In leagues playing fewer rounds the minimum required will be less than 3 matches and in leagues playing more rounds during the season the minimum required will be more than 3 matches. One thing that also is new is that if a player is substitued and only plays 5 minutes it will not count as a whole match but instead be counted as if the player played 30 minutes. In other words the matches will be divided into half hours.
and (http://www.xperteleven.com/xpertdaily.aspx?DartID=258&S=1&lang=EN):
Time in club will count
Since the new match experience counter was added it has come to attention that the match experience required for full development will have to depend on how long the player has been in the club. This means that if the player only has been in the club for part of the season then he won't require as much match experience for full development.
But as the player (that is skill updated when bought on the transfer market) already has "cashed out" some of his seasonal development for the time period before he came to his current club he will then only be able to "cash out" for the part of the season that the player has been in his current club.
In other words this means that if a player came to the club during the ongoing season he won't have as much in the development deposit to cash out as players that has been in the club the whole season. It will also work the same with the skill update made when a player is sold on the transfer market. If the player is sold in the middle of a season he will then collect development for the part of the season he has been in the club and that is what the skill update will be based on.
This also means that the requirement of number of form notations is removed. It won't matter how many form notations the player has received since he came to the club. The player is able to be skill updated even if he only has one form notation.
There is one exception and that is players bought through vip direct transfers within private leagues as those players aren't skill updated when they are transfered but instead those players will carry their form notations and average form with them. These adjustments applies to players bought on the transfer market only. Talents from the youth team are considered as original players and will be counted as if they been in the club the whole season.
These adjustments are already in effect.

I'm guessing that you missed my valedictory Alberts 5-1 away win against them in the off season last then;).
Come back in three and a bit seasons and we'll see:p.
That was a fairly strong and in high form side we put out, so ominous..though why you had to put in your best performances ever twice against us  :D
Match Experience is exactly like that. Carl Dolan got 74% ME after the first game whereas Braidy Boyle has just reached 100%
As ever, it's the strikers left now that are in trouble with ME with only Isgren sorted.

12/01/2009, 4:48 PM
Once they reach 100%, if they're not played again for the rest of the season do they still stay at 100%?
Yep. I'll often leave out young players on high form if they've 100% ME, so I can maintain their form without threat of injury.
In my newest female team, I got a 16yr old junior 4* with cool and intelligent SQ and average form of 16 and current form of 20 for weeks. All going good, possibly a 17 6* on the cards...second last game of the season, she comes on as a sub for an injury and has dropped 5 form bars. She didn't need the ME either

The First Division remains a 3 from 4 race with only 2 points covering the top 4. Wexford's game in hand should be enough to see them safe. I'm away to second from bottom Starlets in my next match and then two home games to finish. I've a 100% record at home this season so feeling confident enough.

Dunno, if ye beat us next week you'll be out of the Relegation Zone, given that Forest have UCD - thats provided UCD put out a full strength team. If you DO win next we're in serious trouble.
Absolutely demolished by UCD today, no complaints at all. Gonna sack Camoranesi. Aboyne, and Pearcy tonight...so that I have no choice but to use the younger players. 1st Div here we come :D

Deserved win for Ragball tonight - more's the pity. Makes the last four rounds very tight! I reckon that the result will not have been the death of our chances, rather that it means they die a little earlier, as I'll outline for cash!

Asbrink and Sjoholm, maybe Skaggmark too...
Not in the position to not take the three points, but still, we should've won by more with that many chances and those ratings.
We've played a game more than most, so we're in big big trouble. dp, sligoman - I think risking the youth players I think are the best decisions you've ever made, you should do just that :) :) [/desperate]

However I think this season will be remembered for the relegation battle - anyone from 3rd to 9th can get relegated  Great win tonight and just as happy with the clean sheet given Sjolund, Tone, and Slaney all started in defence!!!

Blew Loftys away 5-1. Weijden surpasses Carstairs. Sligo look to be in deep s**t now, with DBS and UCD to come. Loftys dragged into it big time. I expect Provos and Forest to be safe. Tough match for us against Harps next - all to play for.

Good results for us - We need to beat the Burts on Saturday and try to get a result from the faltering Boys, and hope that Ragball's form continues against the Fags. Fourth would be a very good season for us, and probably better for the team as we are not remotely ready to go up yet. That said, with two games left, we could actually pull it off and slip up on the Q.T.

I'd be thinking the same thing if I were in your position. Is 3 up, 3 down not a bit much anyway?
Having said that, I'm enjoying throwing a couple of spanners in the promotion race works. And really enjoyed that win away to Wexford! We've beaten 3 of the top 4 now. Hopefully we can finish it off with a win against the Fags as well.

I'd be happy enough to stay down another season too. I'm more concerned with getting the young players to 100% than getting promoted, plus some of my better older players are in horrid form. That said I should win my next game and that will most likely see me up.
We should be safe now with a 5 point lead over two teams with a whole mix of sides to play each other (Pants playing Harps, Forest playing Lofty's lot etc). Third place would certainly be flattering, 4 wins from 5 has saved us hopefully. I'd agree 3 up and 3 down in a 9 team division is high though.
A couple of players that won't make 100% ME

Maybe we should reduce it to 2 up, 2 down from next season or just get rid of relegation altogether.. ;)
It's nice to be safe after all that.
