Jaysus, don't albatros me with favourites tags - mathematically speaking, I could still be caught by Sligo:D
My predictions for the last games
Burton:
Sadly, despite being a bloody tough side to play, they have too much to do - anything less than three wins sees the Provos and the Pants top them on goal difference. I suspect that mathematically it is actually impossible, but I doubt that will stop them. Pants, Landenstown then us (the latter two away) means that they have the hardest run in. Form - poor. Pick up 1 point Finish 7th
UCD:
Tough breaks for them - both Lofty's and Provos to face after Workington, but had they a win tonight they were only 2 points behind. Form - not great. Pick up 5 points. Finish 6th
Lofty's:
Lofty's have UCD and rapidly improving Patsy's, plus what must be a home banker against Workington. A cup game with us could do damage, depending on ref, and fortune, and may impact hugely - winning that game may not be in either team's league interest. Form - improving rapidly. Pick up 5 points. Finish 5th on Goal Diff
Landenstown:
Landenstown on their home record deserve to be top, and they would be worthy league winners. A draw for me with them at the moment would be a good result if in Kildare, but they are woeful travellers, and I should nick the win. They also have Burton at home, and as the best home team in the league, they'll surely win that. Sligo away - 3 points in the bag without leaving Kildare. Form - Good, bar a brief blip. Pick up 6 points. Finish 4th
Flynny's:
What can I say - grace, dash, verve: these are all words which can be used as verb or noun. Landenstown, Workington, Burton Albion, all at home. I have an awful feeling that we'll draw one of them, Burton or Landenstown probably. I also suspect that the game with Lofty's will wreek some damage as I have a fair few vital players a card from suspension. Either of the teams a head slip though, and we'll be on top of them. Form - more good than indifferent. Pick up 7 points Finish 3rd
Pants:
It looked from before the off like the Pants were down around their ankles, but they have pulled up so well that their success has given them a wedgie. Burton away could be tough, as could Patsy's away, but they should win one of those gams, plus home Sligo game. Fail to win two of the three and they are gone from the running. Form - indifferent. Pick up 6 points Finish 2nd
Provos:
Can they do it - they seem to be corpsing right now at the very moment - a win tonight would have had them three clear of the Pants, six clear of us - game over. Sligo at home, Patsy's away, UCD at home. Form - more good than indifferent. Pick up 7 points Finish 1st - just
Whoo - it really is tight at the top alright. Tighter than a -
Maybe I should just stop there...
Cheers dfx!
What??:D
Bluebeard, I hope you are excellent at predictions - tonight is another indicator that inconsistency will kill us off - maybe even our annual second place :o
It's impossible to call, but for me:
1. Pants
2. Alberts
3. Provos
4. lofty
5. Forest
6. UCD
7. Burton
8. Fags
9. Sligo
10.Workington

This season has been really tough for me. I've been a mile off the pace. Still raging after losing to workington a wk back.
Looks like I will have to do a season in the 1st before I hopefully bounce back.
Very hard to call who will win it. I'll go for the pants because of their better defensive record!
FYI
Galway United have now changed their name to Lost in Portugal.

We were in 1st spot for 9 weeks in a row last season - and this season? This week is our 9th week in a row at the top. I see a similar outcome to last season - Only Flynnys at the top, Provos second and ourselves 3rd, once our annual collapse kicks in :o
Flynny's:
Finish 3rd
Pants:
Finish 2nd
Provos:
Finish 1st - just
1. Pants
2. Alberts
3. Provos
Only Flynnys at the top, Provos second and ourselves 3rd, once our annual collapse kicks in :o
Well surely one of us will be right!:D
We all put ourselves third too

We all put ourselves third too
:oI now forsee a new circumstance in light of our cumulative supreme arrogance.
1st Landenstown
2nd UCD
3rd Lofty's
Interestingly enough (and I use that idiom possibly in the Steve Davis sense), we each of us chose a different one of us to win it, and a different one to come second. Maybe we should meet up and take turns winning the league between us for the next few years. Just make sure that we don't let this get onto the forum. Thank god I finally worked out to do these PMs, eh!

Galway United have a new manager in place. I've also begun our annual clear-out of inactive managers with the sacking of 3 managers from the teams-Mason United, Wexford Youths FC & Giants FC. As usual if anyone reading this is, or you know anyone who may be interested in taking over either of those 3, or start with a new team then please let me know or just apply through the normal way[go back to page 1 of this thread]
Thanks!

Pants AFC 1-2 Patsys Fags
Flynny Alberts 3-5 Loftys Lazy 11
Sligo Rovers F.C. 2-4 Provisional SRFC
Landenstown Forest 4-0 Workington AFC
Lucanhoop, you can take over Mason United yeah, I'll sack you when I log in again and then you can re-apply to take them over.
Normal service is resumed and revenge is served :)
Just glanced through some of the last few pages of this thread....good read, really some great and relentless mockery* yet good analysis too.
*Most often towards Sligo Rovers from all sides:D

Not sure tbh. Maybe you'd have to wait til new season starts so yer previous team disappear if theirs no manager and then you re-apply then. Or I could re-activate you as manager of Lost in Portugal...whichever ya want.
It has crossed my mind yes:p.
:D
*prepares Never Relegated banner for next two games*:p
Only Alberts and us will remain from the original sides always in the top flight
Cup semis
Landenstown Forest - Loftys Lazy 11

Yeah, but can you apply for another team in that league...as far as I know you should

Burton Albion and Landenstown now out of the race for the title, as an understrength us beat the latter, though the Burts did for the Pants, putting Provos and us first and second.
UCD v Lofty's will be a big must win game next week - a draw removes both of them from the picture seeing as Provos have 4 points on both of them. Pants have the walkover next week, and we have Workington, who unseated our hopes early in the season.
Provos have to be the favourites, and only slim hopes for Pants and Alberts. I'm off to buy Fags and UCD scarves in hope;)
5-1 against the relegated hatchetmen :D Concentrating on Valentia when we're in that mood is dangerous. Nine goals in three days and Davidsson bags four. Liffey again shows he was a bargain :p
Alberts should go top if our poor record at Patsy's Fags continues. We just beat them at home and I think we've only once or twice in 8 games at Pairc Aban Naofa.
Burton Albion have beaten the top three at home now and still are only sixth. One point between 2nd and 5th:eek:

No chance - we're level on goal diff with Pants and only above them on goals scored they'll leapfrog us when they hammer Sligo next week - we'd have to score at least 6 at the current exchange rate people are getting in the Showgies never mind in a home game. The Alberts will have to rely on the Fags to get two home wins (would take them above Sligo!!) and UCD away next week to have a hope, and that is BEFORE having two tough home games against Workington and the Burts (who for the record have only beaten me away - that could change in two weeks though:o)
Ah yes, I forgot Pants are being given the three points next week. Still put Alberts as favourite though on goal difference.
I think Alberts should and will take six points giving them 34.
Patsy's Fags are a very good and dangerous side and still in the semis of the cup. I think they'll win both their games, finish ahead of the Sligs as is their rightful place.
So Pants will add three to their total making it 31 for them.
So if we beat UCD, we'll end up on 34, but we will have a worse goal difference than Alberts and Alberts will lift the title...and sligoman will be safe from lofty's bet:D Either way Patsy's Fags should determine the winner of the league
Alberts 34
Provos 34
Pants 31

I take offence to that!
They were beaten by the better team.
Take a look at my home record won 7 drawn 1 lost 0.
If I had been a bit more consistent away from home I'd be finishing 3rd.
As it is I'll probably finish a point behind 3rd.
Watch out next season. I've a few youngsters who'll improve big time and a fair bit of money in the bank to improve the squad further.

Not too much a difference overall between your current team and the team you want anyway lucanhoop87. One is stronger than the other in one area and vice versa.
Landenstown Forest 2-4 Lofty's Lazy 11
Provisional SRFC 2-1 Patsy's Fags
Great result considering the side we put out and the side we were up against.
we lost on penalties......... lucky it got that far:( Season effectively over now. :(

Potentially good results for me - a strong need for revenge felt by the fags, and Lofty's and the Provos more games have more games to get injured in. I do not think for one minute that third place is a banker.
Unfortunately, injuries to two key Fags will not help the Albertine cause, though.

The amount of injuries that my team has been hit with this season is gone beyond a joke. A lot of them happen even if i dont have the thing turned to bruise! Seem to pick up on average about an injury a game.
Hopefully I can go out on a high note and leave the division with a win
I see a quick return for the Fags don't know about the Sligs though:p Ah no only joking sligoman...

If it remains 3 up again then I expect to come back up as the level of inactivity in the First Division is shocking.
Do you think a single division might be a better option?
If its like that, I think it would be anyway.

31/12/2007, 6:21 PM
I don't wanna say anything cos I'd expect others, especially dfx, to come along and say how I'm only doing it cos I was going down:p.
One division and two league matches a week are my votes for next season....as this season was too:p
Don't worry, your relegation will still be noted :p

I'd be inclined to vote for two divisions and two cups myself, but I would be quick to say that we should really not make this decision until we all know how many teams are signing up for next year first. By my estimate there are 14 or 15 potentially active members here, so I am reckoning that two divisions of 8 might make for a shorter and more active season, with three up and three down it would also lead to a bigger scramble, and more interest in games. It would be a 14 week season, and that should also ensure that two cups (a two legged and a one-off) could run with the minimum of a break.
This obviously would depend on numbers though. Let's finish the season and see who is in for next season before we make any firm decisions first, shall we?

Needless to say, that is exactly what I want to hear from UCD. If ye win, ye could finish second; the Burts, along with the Provos and Lofty's, have taken most points from me since I took over, I've only beaten them once in the three league games, and my only win to date was by a single goal at home. I've managed to put a few past both the Provos and, spectacularly, five past Lofty's a couple of weeks back.
Nice race in the First for the last promotion place. Wexford Boys beat Cobh by 4 to ensure major action on the last day of the season. The Boys are a point behind Cobh with an away fixture to fluxed Lost In Portugal, while Cobh host the magesterial Looprevil who themselves are hoping for a slip up on the part of the Starlets, who have the pitiful Youths away. Check out the week's Xpert Eleven - completely dominated by the Boys, except for one sole Rambler.

A win away to the lowely youths and the mighty starlets will be crowned champs!that or a favour from our friends down in cobh!is there a prize for winning it?
Provos beware.
See why I brought an if into all this now?:D
Flattering result, two late goals in what was a tight game. Wins there don't come often for us though, so we'll take it:o
0-3 Fags (a)
1-4 Pants (a)
1-3 Lofty's Lazy 11 (a)
2-2 Alberts (a)
Dream away results, yet it could be a draw against Burts at home and that defeat to Sligo which cost us:mad:
