The interview yesterday was a hoot, if the FAI don't throw the book at Rod and Tom then there's no justice. Roddy's son, wait for it, young Rod, is about 15, he was training down in Malta with the Floriana youths and Roddy tried to give him a contract with the seniors (the 3 foreigner rule was used as the excuse why he wasn't signed) and he was over training with his uncle in Coventry for a week. He's supposedly signed with Cherry Orchard and played, before, with Shels youths. Decent youngster, but about 5 years away from 1st Division level, then again, if CCFC are aiming for the A Championship :p

Job's for the boys ???
Surely the lad is only training with City to keep his fitness levels up.

Where were Pats in the league that year though?
Pats finished 7th
Rovers were 5th

Shels won the league
Derry 2nd etc
Drogs
Cork
Rovers

Shels were thrown out, so everyone moved up one position.
Pats were then given Derrys UEFA cup spot, as they were cup finalists.
Arguments could be made for both sides but Pats got it

No, it's so they can play 5 a side.

It would be interesting to check if Tom Coughlan turned up to train.
I remember this time last year he reportedly asked Paul Doolin if he could have run out with the lads, to help get over the Christmas excesses, Roddy would be more accomodating I'd say.

Great idea.....TNB on the ball...Danny Murphy comes in to tackle...only one winner in that challenge.

July was when the thread started, many Soap Operas that are commissioned for TV don't last that long.

What on earth players are thinking signing for Rod's Revolution, I don't know. It'll all end in tears for them unless TNB has a secret stash of €200k- 300k we don't know about. Nasty bullies from outside the club are picking on poor harmless Tom and it's not fair seems to be Roddy's attitude.

:) We're still circa 150 posts behind the Derry thread - they went for the short sharp shock crises option though (all bells and whistles - bit like when they started in the league only to soon taper off) - ours is a real epic - buses, websites, protests, in fighting, George, Roddy etc etc - where will it all end:)

Greens back on track as Shoddy gets in trouble again by Mark Azzopardi

Floriana's new signing Victor "The Volga Bull" Zlydarev made a massive impact to gain man of the match on his debut. The towering Russia, not too different from Rocky villain Ivan Drago, turned hero laying up two passes for the Greens goals. His skill in the air and on the ground served up Christian Caruana and Ryan Darmanin to bring their side a first win in 5 games, and the first since still-registered coach Collins ran away.

Earlier in the day, on Ireland's local radio, Collins broke his previous bond of respect to retell lies he'd retracted only last week about financial committments and Floriana. The "man" who has illegally signed a contract for a club and owner that should be out of business by the end of this month (to the relief of true Cork City supporters) claimed that Cork are a great club and that everyone wants him there. Sadly Shoddy doesn't appear to live in a real world when most forums declare him a disgrace and "spoofer" (Irish for liar and confidence trickster) and according to a source from the FAI Collins is a man "who should not be allowed near any football club or footballer."

FIFA have now made contact with the FAI (according to the MFA press office) and are insisting that not alone should Collins face a domestic ban for illegally signing a second contract, but those with whom he signed, Cork City, will face a European ban of up to 1-2 years unless they settle the case with Floriana F.C.. Speaking after the game a club officer told reporters that Cork City are "yet again running from contact and hoping they will survive. But if they treat their own staff and webmaster with such disrespect, what else do we expect from pigs but grunts."

The Maltese Irish may be back in the top 5, but Shoddy Roddy still casts a dark painful shadow.

So the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree.

If he's as ****e as you say he is, I hope it's just a 'Bring your child to work' initiative by the FAI.

Young Rod is right! But is he really so bad? According to Old Rod Glasgow Rangers wanted to sign him but were turned down "because we're a nationalist family". This was on Newstalk with David Norris.

The Maltese journo's (because of the size of the country) know everyone so someimes it gets personal, but the truth always comes out. With Roddy a ew (apparently) feel betrayed as he told complete codswallop a number of times, made lots of promises and when his "retraction" came he did it through a journalist to "leak" it - even though he was told not to by the club.

I think the Irish media have been pretty okay with it, print anyway, but it's a non-story for them. The writing could be on the wall (in their view) so that Roddy won't be there long enough for Floriana to get compo. Apparently on Facebook there's a fan dedication site for the Rodmeister!

That makes for astonishing reading, not only the content, but the tone. :D
It seems so that Cork City haven't come up with the €28,000 required to pay off Floriana so the Maltese side have contacted FIFA, and after "Mister Liam Meaney was very good in his manners" (http://foot.ie/forums/showpost.php?p=1304013&postcount=1807).

I'm not sure about the threats and bans mentioned, but it's all ammunition for the FAI. Everyone in Cork knows that genuine offers have been made for the club at this stage, Coughlan's options seem to be sell up or don't get a licence, I hope he finally shows some sense.

I think there is general frustration not only with the behaviour of the Cork admin, but also with how they're behaving. The treatment of the webmaster was pretty poor, how they hold he fans in contempt even worse, and what I don't understand is if they are genuinely looking to make an effort they'd have more than a half eejit frontman like Roddy spinning yarns and spoofing. Even Tom must be shuddering at some of his statements, especially since it was from his order that Roddy retract and apologise to Floriana (no doubt hoping they'd knock a couple of zeroes from their bill). It's just beyond comical, and I now believe firmly that they'll get their licence!

Celdrog, pardon my mispelling, but it's for real. The islands of Malta seem to be covered in media sources, almost every person has their own paper, radio station or tv channel (I'm not far from the truth!) and the Independent were the ones who coined the phrase "Shoddy" Collins when, in the summer, he forgot about a Liberian International who was in on trial, changed the venue and then claimed the player misunderstood. It was all a simple mix up and nothing bad, but handled terribly by the Rod. And anyway, the player wasn't supposed to be good!

ps The Maltese language press are far more vicious about him but it's a pain translating what they right (google fails us yet again!).

Heard roddy was on the radio telling the people of cork its up to them to save their own club or something along the lines of that, b0ll0x if he cared he would have listened to the people of cork and stayed away. Also he signed mick devine and graham cummins so there moving along as normal. You'd really have to question the players mind set signing for them. Well theres only 1 thing on that P***k devines mind anyway €€€€€€€

You would have to seriously ask questions about what type of character would sign for Cork City as the situation now stands. LoI footballers wouldn't be known for their intelligence but this is as low as it gets.

Celdrog - Malta is officially bilingual. 350,000 people speak Maltese, despite it not being officially recognised under British rule etc before independence.

It should come as no surprise that 350,000 people who speak an independent language might be interested in receiving their media in that format. Just because they can also speak English doesn't mean they'll all give two fingers to their own language. They're not like the Irish... ;)
