Although I'm still a little confused as to how FORAS would get a place in the First Division even if they get a licence ahead of other teams...

Tralee, Castlebar, Cobh, etc. only got A League licences so there's a spare place in the first division for Foras to take up assuming they get a first division licence.

I'm sure theres someone somewhere that can help with these nightmares, either that or you have one hell of an imagination. :D

In the words of Tom Coughlan, "I think you're being disingenuous"

I think reading through the thread walks the boundary between dream and nightmare, but normally those who transgress (in football) get chosen for higher office - or at least second chances elsewhere - I'll point to england and say the former chairmen or Leeds and Chelsea to name but two.

I was most certainly being disingenuous, actually I was just trying to figure out if quintas and co were getting dragged into the game being played. It can't be easy staying cool and aloof, especially with how business seems to be done in the existing situation.

Whats the general feeling among City fans at the minute??

-are you gonna get premier licence
-will you be in europe
-is the Quintas deal likely to go through???

I know that nobody has the answers...but is there a feeling of optomism???

And yet I'd say there still is a feeling of optimism, just for a fan-run club in the first rather than CCFC in the prem.

What you say is true but only I believe since the FAI took over running the League. In the bad old days of the League of Ireland itself I think there was definitely a bias of some sort whether perceived or otherwise. I know where the FAI are coming from in all of this.

Now I feel a little dizzy..

Very honest in all senses. I hope that the reincarnation (if the premier isn't on the cards) goes ahead and that there is a really well run and vibrant community club that will benefit all the first division clubs for a season at least. I remember the Shamrock Rovers season in the first and the bumper crowds most clubs got. With Cork AND Derry in the first there is going to be a great buzz for the other clubs.

edit: I know Longfordjames asked, but what has happened with the high noon showdown?

Not really, it's still the first division no matter who else is in it.

So the extra fans clicking through the turnstiles doesn't make a difference to the coffers and atmosphere? I think it'll be a fun season, maybe your profile pic can take over as chairman of LFC - even as a player he'd bring extra firepower, alright, that's enough.

If the takeover had gone through we'd have almost certainly heard about it- therefore we can be 99.9% sure it's dead in the water.

So it looks like Bray with a late reprieve and FORAS in D1.

The FAI have launched a last minute bid to takeover Cork City. The hearing has been postponed for another week to allow the takeover to be completed!! Cork will be in Premier Division this season and as a kind gesture the FAI have awarded them +10 points to start off the season!!

Its not a joke!!! Trust me the FAI will find some jackass reason for not going by the rules when it doesn't suit them. Its all to suit the bigger clubs. Sure look what happened Longford Town a couple of seasons back and they were no where near as in big of trouble as Cork but yet they get lifeline after lifeline!! It wouldn't surprise in the slightest what they'll come up with next.

I'd take the opposit view. If Nothing has been announced it means they're fighting for every last second they can get

Yeah but we had some good times in the 80's and 90's. Whereas the noughties were just downright depressing!! Anyways any word on whether Delaney has to use his own money or the FAI's to buy Cork?

If and thats a BIG if Cork are relegated and Bray promoted what will Bray do with the players they have signed? Surely the players they've signed aren't good enough to keep them in the Premier Division? Will they get the chance to sign the players from Cork if they want?

there should be enough players who still arent fixed up with teams yet.
although you cannot take whats up on the pfai site as gospel as it looks like it hasnt been updated in a month or so.

But they can sign out-of-contract players. And there are still loads of them floating about - decent quality ones at that.

Scrufil
19/02/2010, 1:32 PM
The noon deadline does not mean they have to make a statement straight away. They could defer the statement until Monday and this might be the best option as it will give Coughlan no wriggle room.

Any idea what time the press conference is scheduled for? Not one bit surprising this is dragging.

Why delay til Monday? That makes no sense. Why not get it out in the open and let Bray concentrate on preparing for Premier Division football if the FAI do whats right?!!! But nothing surprises me with the FAI

But this time you want the dog put down, in the interest of fairness.

Didn't Cobh get kicked down to the A Championship last year for not having a tex cert in time for licences? How come people are just brushing by that Cork didn't have theirs in time this year and yet aren't being treated the same way?

Longfordian

You must have missed the twenty or thirty times it's been said already. This is going to drag on to Monday evening. Why announce a noon deadline and then ignore it?. They should make their minds up one way or another and let people know.

Any Commercial deal never mind one as complicated as this will take an age to be agreed especially with all the new debts that appeared since tuesday. Obviously the consortium would prefer to trade under the name of CCFC rather than a whole new entity. The pressure is on TNB more than them because if they withdraw his creditors will hang him.

He wont be able to stick his head out for a long while if CCFC fold.

Something just struck me. If you are a director of a company which gets wound up, you're banned from directorships elsewhere for a period of some years (5? 10?). The FAI charge on TNB for bringing the game into disrepute, that made him give up directorship, right? Will he avoid such a ban if someone finally finds a silver bullet with Cork's name on it?

No. The FAI dont have that power. They made him stand down as chairman.

He's still a director

Maybe I wasn't being disingeuous after all, quintas are being the quinessential anti-Tom, and behave just like him - give him until a certain time them fudge it. This is shameful but all within loopholes.

tippex
19/02/2010, 3:51 PM
just thinking.

The only way things will be resolved more or less is if the takeover goes ahead.
If it doesnt then TNB still owns Cork City.
If that is the case then they will not be wound up on Monday as they paid their outstanding tax liability (the revenue were the only ones on the winding up order).
It would then be up to the ILC (again on monday) to decide the clubs fate.

If it was me I would be doing my damnedest to make sure the gimp cannot get anything out of it apart from the company being wound up which should lead to him being banned from being a company director for a substantial period of time.

So were the revenue payed on Wednesday?

Longfordian
19/02/2010, 3:57 PM
I still can't fathom what's in it for the investors, Gray in particular. At least O'Connell is owed €225,000 or whatever and wants to try and get it back somehow which he won't if he lets the company be wound up. Despite their insistence on Premier Division football, the chances are the FAI are at least going to whack on a points deduction or else there really will be uproar. They've feck all players and very little time to sign any decent ones so chances are they could be down in the First next year anyway, a year later and hundreds of thousands worse off than they would have been if they just went with the FORAS club.

I'm making an assumption that they were but there doesnt seem to have been an official press release just being reported in different papers etc
