3 subs made and Robbie unused today. Hope a move happens for him in the next few days

I heard a move to Newcastle was on the cards, rumours of a medical were denied but they have admitted they are interested in Keane.

Crouch has a broken rib. Me thinks Robbie will stick around at Spurs.

Celtic given permission to talk to Robbie Keane, I hear.

Well that would end their interest in Stokes!!! I hope he doesn't go back there and gets a Prem club instead but with Crouch breaking a rib and Defoe needing a groin op, if Harry hasn't got a new striker lined up, Keano won't be going anywhere!!!

As Lenny points out above it looks like Harry won't let Robbie go anywhere unless he has a replacement before the window closes:

Arry is really messing Keane around. We won't let him go unless we get someone in. So as soon as Spurs sign someone before the deadline Keane is out the door (and the likelihood is Spurs will sign two more forwards). Not playing him in the last two games. Arry is showing Keane a lack of respect. I hope he gets a move to Villa or Newcastle but definetely not West Ham.

Fabiano has signed a new contract at Sevilla, though, granted, he would have been limited use to Spurs as he was already cup-tied. Arry's always been able to pull out some good signings at Premier League level but he's shown himself to be very naive in his transfer dealings this summer.

I imagine he'd have nicked a few at Newcastle playing off the monstrous Carroll. His relationship with Redknapp can only go from bad to worse with the latter referring to him as 'Mr. Angry' in the press.

You'd think most managers would be happy to have someone of Keane's ability at least as back up, and with Spurs looking to be competitive in the CL as well as the EPL strength in depth is important. I'm not sure it makes commercial sense to go into the market to seek a replacement for Keane. I reckon Harry is making Keane pay for that Christmas party in Dublin. Quite frankly Keane should pay, but maybe it's gone beyond repair now.

It was an anonymous "source" who told the press, not Arry.

If Keane is still getting punished for the xmas party then what about Crouch? I love how Crouch doesn't get slated from bent Arry when he's front page news two weekends running. Keane might have organised a do but he didn't make the players get on a plane.
Head to West Ham/Newcastle/Celtic where you'll actually be wanted by your manager and fans.

A decent comment attached to a YouTube vid is like finding a diamond in a cesspit but here's one:

Is Robbie sleeping with Mrs Redknapp or Louise Redknapp. Arry seems to want to make Robbie suffer.
Maybe Robbie was'nt grateful enough when Arry saved him from Benitez. It looks like London bridge has fallen down with Arry on one bank and Robbe on t'other.
Charlie Darwin
30/08/2010, 5:09 PM
I don't really see what Arry's done wrong here. He's been fairly open in his appraisal of Keane - a useful player but one he'd send on his bike if he brought in another forward. Spurs own his contract and Robbie has no right to complain if he's not doing enough to get into the team.

Just a wild guess, but I wonder was there some 'return to sender' clause in the transfer contract with Liverpool, if Robbie didn't cut the mustard within a period of time.

For the record the Turkish transfer deadline isn't until tomorrow I believe, so ESPN says a deal with Besiktas could still be in the works.

I have my doubts whether this story is really accurate but the Daily Mail (enough said) suggests Robbie turned down an 8m move to Besiktas today. I can't say I'd blame him if he was only given a few hours to make a decision.

you know with European football and the fact that the turkish league seems to produce decent enough sides for CL group stages it might not have been the worst move. it wouldn't have been a bad experience.

wouldnt have been a bad move for a season over there but I would imagine having a young family might have put him off the move

Yeah, I just think the nature of the transfer window is that players get put under pressure to make ridiculous last-minute decisions. If Besiktas really wanted him they could have made a bid weeks ago and given Robbie and his missus a chance to go over to see the place and meet the people before making a decision. It's one thing to go out on a 4 or 5 month loan to Glasgow but a permanent move to Turkey is a big decision to make (even for a millionaire footballer).
It looked like Robbie Jr. would melt in the sun as well - good pale Irish skin on that lad based on what we saw of him in Lansdowne :p

Turkish food is fantastic.
At least it appears that our reliance on England to contract our better players is being diluted a bit. Hopefully the same will start to apply for our more promising developing players.
Is McGeady the furthest east an Irish international has been contracted to?

look im sure robbie didnt want to uproot him and his family to turkey, other than playing id imagine it may be hard enough to settle in over there. he will have enough games i hope between the league, carling cup, fa cup and champions league games to keep him going till jan. then he can asses the situation over a possible move.

Can someone tell me why Osarusan was banned?
It says some thing like "turns out it's total bull"
Is that a reason to ban someone, because something turned out not to be true?
And what was not true? What is the 'it's not clear.
He has posted here for about 6 years, it seems a bit odd to ban him for posting something which turned out not to be true (apaprentl).

Hopefully at least one for Robbie tomorrow. I was expecting a tirade from Yapster on his missing a couple on Friday but I was quite pleased with his overall performance. I would start to worry if he wasn't getting in to goal scoring positions and he should of course have had a penalty. He and Kevin D not seem to be working well together.

To be honest, I think of that as a non-point. What it is indicative of though is a fear of change or a reluctance to break out of one's comfort zone; nothing more than a trite excuse for potential failure. If South Americans and other western Europeans can excel in Turkey, I don't see why an Irishman couldn't. Aiden McGeady, for example, should be applauded for his move to Russia as it demonstrated both courage and ambition. If it doesn't work out for him, fair enough, but at least he gave it a shot.

But do you not think that up rooting a young family is a decision that would probably be needed to be thought about for a bit of time. At most Robbie would have only been given a short few days to make up his mind. I love Turkey, been there a few times but I wouldnt move there at the drop of a hat without alot of consideration. In McGeadys case he spent the best part of 2 weeks to make up his mind about moving to Russia and he didnt have a new born baby to think about.
Of course all that could be bull sh1t and Robbie just didnt wanna risk leaving British football again after his experience in Italy but I think that we sometimes forget that footballers are just human with the same family considerations most of us would have when thinking about moving to another country for work

Maybe I was a bit hasty in my criticism. It wasn't necessarily directed at Robbie personally either, by the way; more just towards the whole casual and automatic acceptance of this idea that Irish players will be unable to settle in somewhere abroad before they've even given it a shot, as if the prospective destination is on some alien planet where the locals breath something other than oxygen.
In fairness to Robbie, he did have a go in Italy with Inter, as you point out. Obviously, there's the family element and any such decision should naturally require a lot of serious thought and consideration. What gets to me really is just the whole dismissal of such possible moves outside of Ireland and the UK for Irish players on the basis that the player will struggle to settle into the new environment before he's even tried it. Especially when plenty of other "outsiders" have succeeded in settling in perfectly well in much tougher environments, families and all. It just seems like an all-too-easy excuse to avoid breaking out of one's comfort zone. Then again, I'm not a professional footballer who has met with the prospect of joining a club in a non-English-speaking country, so I mightn't be all that qualified to condemn. Yet... :p

in fairness the 1st chance he had wasnt that easy, came over his shoulder it sliced off his foot but could have as easily went in. he did score also but was offside, we didnt see a replay on it though. his other chance, yes he should have scored but i agree with giles when he said he tried to place it. i think so to, that one got away. hope he gets an early one tonight and hes in business again.
