Don't think the article's that bad in fairness. Reflects my experience of how a lot of people took (or didn't take) to Robbie in his earlier years. I knew a few people around Lansdowne who pretty much despised him post World Cup seemingly because he had the gall of being fully comprehensible as to his own talent and he narked the ref too much.

Got the feeling reading it Conlan wanted to (or was asked to) hatchet Keane but gave up halfway though. It's almost heartwarming by the end.

Worth noting last night's goal was his first of 2016 - which means he scored in every one of his 19 years as an international.

Also worth noting Murphy has scored one in his 23 games as an international!!

Only five players had a career span the same as Robbie (19 years), or greater - Hossam Hassan(Egypt, 22), Imre Schlosser(Hungary, 22), Fandi Ahmad(Singapore, 19), Romário(Brazil, 19), and Carlos Ruiz(Guatemala, 19)

Ruis didn't score in 2009, 2010 or 2013

Ruiz has joined Keane on 68 goals (http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37294904) in what was also his final appearance.

Pity we didn't manage to get Robbie five the last night, he would have jumped into the top ten ahead of Klose & co!

Have a look at the 100+ goals he scored in the Premier League as compiled by Sky and even you (well, actually, probably not) might recognise the genius of the man.

It was a purposely daft comment responding to a purposely daft comment someone else made. Banter. Nothing more.

Our man Robbie started the first round playoff match at home to Real Salt Lake last night on the bench, but came on shortly after half-time. Apparently his contract with the LA Galaxy is up? I was under the impression that he was signed for another season at least.

Steven Gerrard did not make the matchday squad and is almost certainly on his way out at the conclusion of this season.

In his farewell letter to the Galaxy fans, Robbie said that the fans had helped him to make LA such a special place that LA had become his 2nd home.
That begged the question, what place could be more special than his home in LA (15101 Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills) that Robbie would regard it as his first home? Not Tallaght surely? But as it turns out, Mullh. Drive is the 1st home and Robbie has a 2nd home in DTLA, .......... Downtown Los Angeles to you plebs.

You're getting confused Charlie, the morgue is this hypothetical shangri la retirement home football club now based in Tallaght, where it's taken for granted that most every decent dublin born footballer, a returnee from abroad, is supposed to have a dying dream to play for, before they kick their football bucket.

Anyway, in Robbie's case, he escaped from Tallaght, a decade before Shamrock Rovers settled in there.

Doesn't think he will come out of Intl retirement.

Keane went on to compare criticism of the England star to digs he received from some Irish fans in the latter stages of his international career.

He added: "When I turned 30, people were calling for younger lads to come in - but I continued on for another five years and kept scoring goals."

Here's a link to a clip of Robbie on 'Goals on Sunday' discussing his international career, international retirement and our current qualification hopes:
https://vid.me/Spns

For me, the most pride I've had over the years is putting that green jersey on. No question about that. It (international retirement) was a difficult decision for me of course, certainly for the family, but I think it's a decision that was at the right time for me.

(It's) a good opportunity for the younger players. Of course the last year was a little bit different in terms of my role in the team, but I enjoyed absolutely every minute of it.

It's difficult, that last game was a little bit strange, playing with all your family there and knowing that's the last time you'll put that green jersey on again.

Special memories.

In this clip, after being asked if he'd return to international football, even to aid an injury-crisis, he plays down any chance of it:

Perhaps Sunderland's move for Ulloa will fall through and they will get desperate?

Robbie Keane set for another record thanks to online assist
Thursday, February 02, 2017
Joe Leogue

He’s used to bagging goals from whipped-in crosses and threaded through balls, but Robbie Keane may be the beneficiary of a different kind of assist if he scores a new world record.

While the Dublin native has teamed up with players from around the world, his potential entry in the Guinness World Records will be partly due to the work of a computer programmer from Limerick.
Joseph McCarthy believes that by scoring a goal at international level in 19 consecutive years, Keane has achieved a feat unparalleled in the history of football.
An avid follower of the Boys in Green, Joseph runs the ‘Irish Abroad’ website, a statistics site which collects data on Irish players.
Joseph was on a football forum discussing Keane’s goal in his final game for the Republic of Ireland last year when he mentioned that he had heard it was the striker’s 18th consecutive year of scoring for Ireland.
A discussion ensued during which he and another two commenters deduced that it was actually the 19th straight year that Keane had found the net for Ireland — a potential world record.
“This stuck with me and I wondered if it was and how it could be proven,” said Joseph. “I’ve done some work with large data sets, both as part of my job and in personal projects, but in order to prove this, you would need the record of all international players, restricted to players who had a career of more than 19 years, and who also scored more than 19 goals.”
After much analysis, eliminating the likes of Pele, Ali Daei, and Gerd Muller, he said:
“The only player I could find that came close was Hungarian international Imre Schlosser-Lakatos who scored in 16 consecutive years between 1906-1921.”
Guinness World Records confirmed they could be using Joseph’s research to award Keane the prize.
“We have received an application for the record in question, our review process can take up to 12 weeks, and we look forward to receiving the evidence from the claimant, said a spokesperson for Guinness World Records.

That's a deserved recognition Tets, well done.
I guess this is only the start,
if it goes through, a signed shirt from Robbie, a photo opp with Robbie, Robbie saying he's always dreamed of making the Guinness book of records and thank you very very much.

Afaics there was only one year Robbie did not score a competitive goal and that was 2016.
Could you apply for 2 records, the 2nd being 18 years in a row he scores a competitive goal, which might have more merit and would last forever?

02/02/2017, 10:39 AM
I'm not expecting anything, genuinely, if anything like that comes from it then it'll be a bonus.
His wife retweeted me yesterday on twitter, that was pretty cool.

Second application could be an option alright, I'm prepared to wait and see how this goes first. According to Guinness, we've to wait two months for them to do their due dilligence first.

I got an Arab friend to translate that. It says "I always dreamed of playing for Al-Ahli in the UAE". Naw, she tells me that it reads "The Irish Star Robbie Keane participates in the training of Al-Ahli this morning".
