Why make the assumption that the Swiss would love to see Robbie on the bench. IMO Elliot was one of only two players who started the game to come out of the Cyprus match with any credit and deserves his chance. Clinton has always caused the Swiss more problems than Robbie. I think they would prefer to see Robbie on the pitch in front of Clinton given the relative recent form of both players.

IMO the team 2moro should be
1. Given
2. Carr
3.Finnan
4.Cunningham
5.Dunne
6.Kavanagh
7.Stephen Reid
8.Holland
9.Elliot
10.Morrison
11.Andy Reid
This is the team who are the most on form but sadly i feel kerr is too inept to pick this team.

Robbie keane has to play tomorrow regardless of his performance against france and cyprus. We have very little creativity without Duff and keane (possibly fatty reid) are the only players capable of getting a goal out of nothing.

Its got to be keane and morrison to start tomorrow.

Only for an excellent clearance off the line Robbie would have scored on Saturday and there would be very few people wanting him dropped. He wasn't that bad against Cyprus.

robbie and morrison will start tmow .. just think really unfair on elliott who had a decent game on sat and ran his heart out ... though i can see why kerr will play keane as one he would be slated and two if keane actually does perform he is our most creative player .. hopefully he will do the business for him now he realises his place is under pressure now ..

Brian Kerr would need to be off his rocker on cocaine before he'd drop Robbie this week. Considering his job is up for grabs anyway, do you really expect him to do it? I agree with the statement if he does do it, he should be sacked on the spot!

We simply cannot gamble on dropping our best striker for this game. I think Robbie's been bearing the brunt of the stick for a **** poor team performance for the past few games. You can't expect to get much service when your central midfield is Kavanagh and Kilbane! I would start Robbie and Clint up front, because we know that combination has a history of working. If it's not working with 45 gone, then have a look to Elliott.

I agree that we need to make a number of changes for this game, and I think Ian Harte must play, purely because he genuinely can make a goal out of nothing. Gentlemen, we are needing 3 points here and we have to overlook some of Harte's defensive frailties and play him on his attacking merits. The free kicks, the corners, the diagonal balls and the crosses all outweigh his dubious defensive skills.

I am in favour of dropping Kavanagh, he works very hard but so does Kilbane, and he offers less than Kilbane. Lets go for the jugular, put O'Shea in midfield and try our luck a little bit. He's got surprisingly got attacking attributes for a defender.

So, my team would be as follows.

Given

Carr
Harte
O'Brien
Cunningham

Finnan
Reid
O'Shea
Kilbane

Keane
Morrison

We've got options on the bench.

I think we'll need to score two to win this one. Unless Shay Given gets even more amazing they are likely to breach our defence once.

Last minute winner, Robbie Keane.

i think its a vital week for robbie, on and off the training park.

if he bursts his ******** and is in bed by 19 every night he may have tipped the scales in his balance.

but dont for a second think kerr will risk his career on any player who moans through training and goes on the ****. scapegoats may well be needed.

Here lads while we're talking about dropping our record goalscorer for our most important game in 3 years let's also bring Lee Trundle and Richie Foran into the squad and play them up front together.

They can then line up alongside our newly formed midfield made up entirely of Eircom League players (the majority from Cork City of course) and while we're at it lets play John O'Shea in goal in place of Given because he's so versatile and bring Paul Butler back from the International wilderness.

As I said earlier fatty Keane's persistence setup Elliot's goal on Sat and he always looks like our main goal threat when playing. Elliot's time may come alongside Keane but not in place of him. Bring him on if fatty get's tired and is playing s**t. To suggest anything else is silly at this stage of the qualification.

Good post youngirish. Sums up the stupidity of this thread and the idiotic comments made by the George O'Callaghan/Joe Gamble/Neale Fenn brigade.

Robbie Keane just scored his 3rd goal of the season. He now has the same amount of goals as both Mido and Defoe, yet he's had less than half the playing time. It's Robbie's second start in a row. Maybe Robbie has played his way back into the team.

lets not get carried away. Jol wont play two short men together. Mido is doing well so it going to take a lot more effort from robbie.

Still at the end of the day, Im glad that he is on the bench. Maybe he will grow up a bit and develop his game.

Lets not get carried away? A couple of bad performances for Ireland and Keane is a terrible player. Keane was the best player on the park today and deserves credit. Apparantly he linked up extremely well with Mido.

Keane appeared to be trying to prove a point to manager Martin Jol throughout the match.

The Irish striker was busy and a constant thorn in Wigan's side, and will have surely retained his place for Tottenham's next game, against Sunderland.

I thought he took the goal well. He anticipated the mistake, like all good forwards should, and it took a nice touch to take the ball away from the keepr and De Zeuw.

Just chatting to the lads from work and I argued that he's not a player for a team with Champions league ambitions with the current fad with unnecesary depth in every department and squad rotation. If Keane was at the Evertons and Chartlons of this world and made 40 odd starts in all competitions he'd reach the 20 goal a season target set by most strikers, Re the like of Saha at Fulham. But the stop start playing time he's had at Leeds and Spurs (both teams with ideas above their station i might add) has hindered him.

I thought he looked very good from what I saw on MOTD. Set up Davids' goal too. Has he lost a few pounds? Very sharp & spritely.

Like nearly everyone else on this forum I think Robbie probably needs a move. But this time last year nobody though Joe Cole had a chance at Chelsea.

He is over rated,we(Irish people) have a terrible habit of over rating our own and yet slagging the English when they do it too.

I think that we actually give Robbie too much of a hard time, he's not an out & out striker, yet is our top all time goal scorer. If we had a good 'poacher' along side him he would do well....He was highly praised by all the commentators for his goal at the weekend, he's still our 1st choice striker & we are lucky to have him!!

I couldnt figure out what angle Jol was coming out with on robbie... but the game was edge of your seat stuff, so maybe the miss by robbie wasnt out of the blue.

Still the Scundered-land defence is the biggest mess of the EPL. Robbie was unlucky not to scored another goal but he is the same old kid in the playground bumbling the ball over the goal line.

I hope Robbie stays at spurs... they are a decent side and should get the UEFA Cup spot.

KEANE & DAVIDS TRADE PUNCHES

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Edgar Davids and Robbie Keane had a bust-up in training on Friday.

The pair reportedly traded punches following a crunching challenge in a game of defenders v attackers.

Spurs spokeswoman Donna Cullen said: "There was an incident but it was handbags and it's all over and forgotten now."

Both players were in the starting line-up as Tottenham beat Sunderland 3-2 at White Hart Lane on Saturday, lifting the north Londoners to fourth in the Premiership table.

There's another thing I don't understand. Jol plays Davids on the left instead of in the defensive midfielder/box to box role that he's so good at. He's miles better than Jenas in the middle.

Jol has too many players. It will all end in tears.

geysir
05/12/2005, 12:38 PM
There is nothing unusual about that, an attacking left CM is Davids position. He can tackle and distribute the ball. Jol was spot on with that signing. Andy Reid can only hope to pick up a few hints from Edgar on the training pitch and wait for him to get suspended or injured.

brine3
05/12/2005, 1:11 PM
Davids hasn't played left midfield for about 10 years. He's made his name on the international stage as a box-to-box midfield enforcer. And that's exactly the type of player that the Spurs midfield could do with.

NeilMcD
05/12/2005, 1:11 PM
Lads Robbie has played well the last 2 games and has scored in both games and set up 2 goalds too. 2 goals and 2 assists. Defoe is the one struggling and Keane has deserved his place. The penalty was a top class saved and it was a very good penalty from Robbie. Its just a pity that this run did not come in September and October.

I wrote left cm that means Left central midfielder not Left midfielder.
Does Davids lash up the wing? I doubt it. I haven't seen much of Spurs but that doesn't stop me :)
Anyway, the only relevance Edgar has on this forum is that he is keeping
Andy Reid off the team

Was at ****e hart lane on saturday and the hand of keane appeared .. should have been sent off for kicking gary breen who then pushed him back and got a yellow card .. poor game from keane looked very average in comparison to mido ..

geysir

That incident from another perspective
"In the 29th minute things threatened to spill over. Gary Breen scythed through the heels of Robbie Keane and the Irishman violently kicked out at his opponent. The referee, Peter Walton, swiftly moved in to calm matters and showed a yellow card to Breen, but failed in his duty by not even admonishing Keane."
(which irishman :) )
Also Keane got a higher rating than Mido.
