Some concrete stuff there by The Sun as usual. The Examiner reckon he's Championship bound (http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/robbie-keane-looks-championship-bound-442279.html).

His stated goal was to stay in MLS but there were no contract offers from any of the twenty-two clubs.

I'm sure any MLS team with a Designated Player spot still available would be happy to sign Keane. The problem is money. He was on good wages at Galaxy and probably doesn't want to take a pay cut unless absolutely necessary.

Would be cool to watch him with a Prem/Championship team for last hurrah though, wouldn't it?

Olé Olé

Burnley would be really interesting but I'd hate see him go there if his legs weren't able for the speed of the PL. The Sunderland link has disaster written all over it though.

Think he'll end up in the Championship though. Clubs are probably trying to get the money together, be it from sponsors or internally.

Was selfishly hoping he'd sign for the Vancouver Whitecaps -- there's a bit of a connection personally -- Robbie was best man at Carl Robinson (Whitecaps manager)'s wedding.

Don't think the $$$ is there though.

Robbie is training with Shamrock Rovers at the minute (not with an eye on a move to Tallaght, but to maintain his fitness levels): http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/league-of-ireland/robbie-keane-eyes-next-move-as-he-trains-with-shamrock-rovers-35511940.html

Robbie Keane has trained with Shamrock Rovers this week as he keeps sharp with a view to sorting out his football future.

The all-time record Ireland goalscorer was linked with a move to the Hoops earlier this year but dismissed the idea out of hand and there is no expectation that a stint on the training ground with the Hoops will lead to anything.

Rovers sources have stressed that Keane's involvement with the League of Ireland side is based around maintaining his fitness and is unlikely to extend beyond the end of this week. But his presence at Rovers' new Roadstone base yesterday was a pleasant surprise to the Rovers squad with Keane linking up in training with his good friend Damien Duff who is a member of Stephen Bradley's first team coaching staff.

The Tallaght man's former Ireland and Leeds colleague Stephen McPhail is also sporting director with the Dublin 24 club.

Duff - who was recently appointed head coach of the U-15 Rovers' team - is prominently involved in senior training sessions and it's believed that the Hoops strikers have also benefited from Keane's advice this week.

It is still unclear what the future holds for the 36-year-old.

A legend signing for Shamrock Rovers is the football equivalent of his name being carved (slowly/rapidly) on the career gravestone.
It's the cue for the coffin maker to make the preparations.

Who and why did he gain respect from when he moved to the US? (Apart from you, his bank manager and agent).

He sat courtside and met Kobe Bryant. He grinded on David Beckham in a bar as you can read about if you scroll back here several years.

RK did a lot for MLS and for fans of the sport in the US. He always made himself available for press and was a good ambassador for soccer in general. Bruce Arena has massively wonderful things to say about him. He was a very charitable person in LA vis a vis trying to introduce soccer into the less fortunate LA communities. Incidentally Bruce said today that the US can start thinking about winning the WC in 2026.

"'I've got one more adventure left in me' - Keane puts retirement talk on hold for final move": http://www.the42.ie/robbie-keane-future-retirement-3359421-Apr2017/

He will be 37 in July, but plans to hang up the boots altogether have been put on hold for one last hurrah. “It will definitely be abroad,” said Keane, speaking out at Dublin Airport today. “I’ve got one more adventure left in me. If it’s a year or a couple more years, then I’ll look to get settled back home in Ireland.”

Keane, who is currently living in Dublin with his wife Claudine and sons Robert Jr and Hudson, has been linked with moves to Preston North End, Shamrock Rovers, Dubai-based Al-Ahli and the Chinese Super League among others in recent months. There have been offers, but while the time hasn’t yet been right, he believes a deal will be done in the summer. “A lot of leagues were about to finish so I didn’t want to go somewhere for seven, eight, or 10 games,” he adds.

If Robbie is is determined to keep himself fit and training with Shamrock Rovers, why doesn't he just go the whole hog and play for the first team until he does get some other offers?

Because it will probably lower the perception of him as a viable player for a championship level team.

Received an update from Guinness World Records on the application to recognise Robbie Keane's consecutive years of goalscoring record yesterday, and it's not good news: http://irish-abroad.appspot.com/Blog?id=2988470919446889002

That's a pity. It' will be interesting to read their justification, it's appears bullet proof from the case you've put forward (unless they can find something that's incorrect).

tetsujin1979
12/05/2017, 1:20 PM
I've read through the mail they sent a few times. It could be as simple as that they're not happy with the title of the record.
This is what they sent (most of the rest of the mail is boiler plate "we're sorry, but....." text)

Unfortunately, after thoroughly reviewing your application with members of our research team, we are afraid to say that we cannot accept your proposal as a Guinness World Records title.
so I've sent this as an alternative title "Most consecutive years of scoring in international soccer"

CraftyToePoke
12/05/2017, 1:29 PM
They just need to apply some common sense, or make a helpful suggestion surely. Frustrating so see it tick all their boxes and still be returned without seemingly any good reason.

tetsujin1979
12/05/2017, 1:33 PM
They did suggest "Most consecutive Premier League football seasons scored in" and "Most consecutive football (soccer) FIFA World Cup matches scored in" as alternative titles, which is what inspired me to submit "Most consecutive years of scoring in international soccer" as an alternative.

Incidentally, some recent records on their site include "Longest dog tail" and "Most green coconuts smashed in a minute with the head"

Redknapp now wants to recruit proven, experienced performers to give City a crack at promotion next term.

MirrorSport understands the ex-Tottenham manager spoke to some of his old players at White Hart Lane’s send-off on Sunday about joining him in next term. These included striker Keane, who is a free agent after leaving Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy in December, and was spotted having an in-depth conversation with Redknapp at that weekend win over Manchester United.

tets; your attempt to have Robbie's record recognised by Guinees World Records got a mention on Joe.ie: https://www.sportsjoe.ie/football/robbie-keane-holds-world-record-still-not-recognised-124328

Robbie Keane's amazing goalscoring return for the Republic of Ireland is a genuine world record. However, the latest attempt to have it recognised has been shot down.

The good folks over at Irish Abroad, a site dedicated to collecting statistics based on Irish soccer players, put in all the ground work to figure out that the legendary Irish striker deserves a place in the history books.

Another mention here in the Irish Examiner: http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/guinness-world-records-not-keen-on-robbie-keanes-goalscoring-exploits-450601.html

It’s bad news for Robbie as Guinness World Records has revealed they’re not keen on recognising his international goalscoring exploits.

In February, the Irish Examiner revealed how football supporter Joe McCarthy contacted Guinness World Records to suggest that Robbie Keane has achieved a feat unparalleled in the history of football. Joe runs the ‘Irish Abroad’ website, a statistics site which collects data on Irish players.
