keane appeared too late in the game last night to inspire the win, he should have been on from the start, bad selection by Jol.

He has been carrying a knock since last week.

I thought that was the best I've seen of Robbie for a long while......great movement, passing and very unlucky not to have got the winning goal!:)

He played behind the front two which suits him. Should have scored at the end though.

Fighting for his place I suspect. Hope he doesn't spend most of the season warming the bench.

At a guess I would say Keane is fine and Defoe is on his way.

I think they might keep Defoe and Keane as they've sold Mido and Jol has always insisted he wanted 4 top strikers to compete.
Keane is a much better player than Bent anyway so I wudnt be too worried. Bent is just another Heskey but with less strength

he needs the competition anyway , wish we had another good striker like doyle to shake off keanes complaceny

Keane will hold his own. Jol clearly rates him.

If depends on who Jol starts at the beginning of the season. You would think after spending all that dough that Bent and Berbatov would be starting against Sunderland. But I think Keane has proved he works well with Berbatov and would be surprised if he dosen't start more games than Bent. On a side note If Spurs don't get into the top 4 this year then its goodbye Martin Jol. Over-rated keeper and poor defense.
bent is a ridiculous signing for that amount of money. should have spent money elsewhere

That would leave hiim at Sunderland.

Agree, assume they pay 14 million for Bent, doubt they'll get 8 million for Defoe, so they'll be down 6 mill and have swapped one average striker for another, if anything I think Defoe is a better player.

im sure it will depend on pre-season. also they may play a different way, keane is good behind 2 forwards and can also play on the left, i can see him starting most games form permitting
Defoe will go leaving Bent & Keane to fight it out to play alongside Berbatov. Should be plenty of games available to rotate all three. If Keane & Bent can prove they can play together will be valuable as Berbatov can be rested.
The market places a premium of proven Premiership players who are english. The Englang squad is hardly bursting with forwards so if Bent establishes himself there his value will increase.

Robbie & Berbatov really blossomed in second part of last season. My only concern for Robbie is that he has started the last 2 seasons slowly, but I think he and Berbatov really put Defoe in the shade last year. Bent will have it all to prove, Robbie has nothing to prove at Spurs. He'll be fine.

Jol likes a little and large pairing up front so Berbatov and Bent will rotate as will Robbie and Defoe

If Bent is worth 16.5m then how much would Doyle fetch for? Torres for 28m....... has the footballing world gone mad?

It truly is crazy that a nothing player like Bent is bought for that. He's an awkward, bull of a striker with no first touch and no football brain. Dunno what Jol is thinking
cavan_fan

I'm not sure he's a nothing striker, his record stands comparison with Doyle's and he's a year further on. He'd certainly be in our squad.
As to his value, I always assume that English players go for twice their real worth (c.f. Ashley Young). No-one has ever explained why, though I think it's a bit like house prices. Bent may be worth buying for 16.5 million if, as is likely, some other Enlgish club will pay 20 million in 2 years.

It's more down to the financial security of selling clubs in England I find which dictates player values

Sort of agree but wouldnt be at all surprised if Lita fetched more than Doyle if sold and that's the same selling club!

Jol has publicly stated that Robbie is now one of his "untouchables" i.e. he is first choice for the big games (alongside Berbatov). Defoe will now be sold, and/or Mido, since neither is prepared to act as occasional back-up from the bench.
I'm very surprised that Bent's so keen on Spurs that he accepted a pay cut of £25k per week from what WHU offered (!), especially when he's unlikely to start the season as a regular. I'd imagine he will get lesser games to start with (cup ties etc); therefore, barring serious loss of form or injury to RK or Berba, he must hope that he plays so well when he does get his chance that Jol can't leave him out.
As for his quality, he has scored more Premiership goals over the last two seasons than any other Englishman - almost a goal every other game - which is impressive, considering Charlton were such a mediocre team.

obviously jol and the quality of his fellow players have impressed him , spurs will almost certainly be on arsenals case this year for a CL spot. Still think it is an outrageous fee

Looks like hes dropped for his club's next game.
About time. I think that he should lose the Irish captaincy and should also be dropped from Ireland?

hmm. he is playing in the hole behind Bent and Berbatov. He is also team captain. I will be interested to see how he plays as it could be of interest to Stan. It was widely reported that this was going to happen so dont understand where the Keane axed headline came from. Dont let the truth get in the way of a good story and all that eh Finn
