It's Cahill's decision whether he wants to stand by his brother or not. Just because people are horrified by the crime the brother committed, doesn't mean Cahill should publicly shun him. I say fair play to him for showing support for his brother.

Yeh, fair play to him. It will also be great if the people who are related to the ones who stuck screw drivers in the Poles heads stick by the perpetrators by pretending to have handcuffs on. Fair play to them

2 unprovoked attacks on innocent people slightly different intentions in each case but still a cowardly thing to do kick someone in the head when they are on the ground which could have easily killed him it has left him blind in one eye.

Im not for one second defending sean cahill for his actions its not as bad as the screw driver stabbing but not far off it.

If it was Joey Barton making a hatchet sign with his arm id think it was poor form.

No harm in him issuing an apology to the family if it cause any upset.

He didn't have to make any public gesture at all, did he? Most people wouldn't have known his brother was sent down if he didn't make the gesture. Wonder will he back it up with meaningful action like visiting him on a regular basis and supporting his family (if any) rather than stupid gestures.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets some "interesting" chants from the opposing fans in future games.

He's apologised for the gesture at least:

Dam i think Liverpool have just found there form just as Everton go into a dip in form. 3 points at Sunderland but very hard found great save from howard in the last second.

I keep thinking back to that wrongly Dissaloud goal V Blackburn that would have given us a 3 point edge over liverpool.

With Utd and chelsea getting knocked out of the FA cup it now means only 5th spot will get UEFA ( i think )

Sunderland were looking for 6 wins on the bounce at home so if I was you I'd be thrilled with 3 points there.

A disallowed goal! I am sure Everton have had a number of favourable decisions go their way but it is human nature to remember the ones that go against you. No point looking back. Anyway, if Everton get stuffed away to Florentina in the UEFA Cup, they're hardly going to make an impact in the Champions/RunnersUp/ThirdPlaceandsometimes4thplace League next season

Thrilled with barely beating Sunderland !!! are you serious ? They are rubbish we should be beating every team below us quite easily , This isnt like the season where we scrapped and scrapped a load of 1 nils to get fourth. To be serious contenders to catching up to the top 3 we have to put teams like sunderland away like the 7-1 at goodison.

Everton im sure have had a hand full of decisions go our way ( even though we are yet to get 1 single penalty this seaon ) but looking at that goal its impossible to see how it was off side , it would have ment 3 points and an extra foothold on 4th.

You do know how good Florentina are dont you they are 4th in seria A and if Everton had played like they have been all season they would have easily beaten them. Look how good liverpool have done in the champs league and we are level with them in the league while also going on a good run in europe and a domestic cup. I definetly think they could hold there own next season

They are rubbish but not at home (they had 7 shots to your 5). And football doesn't work out like you say, with teams above beating teams below them "quite easily". We'd all soon lose interest in the game if soccer was as simple as that. Look at Wigan vs Arsenal to name but one game. I also think you overestimate the strength of the Everton team.

Hence me saying they made hard work of it.

You have taken one result i think if you look at it you will find in general Utd arsenal chelsea etc all beat the teams below them thats why they are top.

Im not, Everton have a very good side if they did get champs league there would be a lot of money available to moyes to further strenghten it.

Thats what i all ways thought but it was pointed out to me on here that when Everton did get fourth it turns out they didnt deserve it !!!

But that was from the same brain boxes that say Gerrard isnt a diver thank god they have all left the thread now.

I think liverpool will take it i think they have just got it together in time to save there season. Everton need to stop panicing and hoofing the ball all season they are playing really well get into a great posistion but got to play that Florentina game and fell apart got so nervous made so many mistakes did nothign right and fell back into hoof ball tactics. If moyes cant get rid of that ( drop neville ) they have no hope of keeping up with liverpool

no like liverpool do not deserve fourth imo this season benitez has fooled around with his team too many times, disrespected alot of clubs along the way. This season gerrard and carragher have said it is a total failure- all benitez fault, leaving torres on tyhe bench for home games is a disgrace, my friend flew over to watch them and he rested gerrard and torres no cl match midweek or anything, joke if that happened me if i supported liverpool id never support them again, now as for everton, they fought every minute of every game playing their strongest 11 and thats why i think on merit everton deserve but being honest 5th or 6th is where they will finish. Rant over on liverpool!!

Torres has not started 3 league matches when fit enough to be in the squad this season - less than Ronaldo at Man U. On two of those occasions he was coming back from injury, on the other, Benitez kept the same team that had just beaten Besiktas 8-0, which Torres was left out of because he was coming back from injury. All three were in the first 3 months of a 23 year olds first season in a new league.

Torres has started 23 of 29 prem games, was injured twice, was sub in 3 games when coming back from injury and the last time he was rested when fully fit? Birmingham at home. All the way back in late September.

I don't see how it's all Benitez' fault, and Carragher and Gerrard haven't said it was his fault. Also, Gerrard and Torres haven't both been rested at the same time for a home league game. Both of them play practically every game. Benitez has done a very, very good job at Liverpool. The crap that the media have spouted about him is absolutely ridiculous. He's won as many major competitions as Ferguson has since he's taken over Liverpool.

Yip watched the game last night and have to say torres is a class act, Liverpool played well but Gerrard and torres are the only stars on the team lots of muck still , Kuyt is one of the worst players ive seen in a long time.

Torres goal took an emmense amount of skill , really well taken if he stays fit liverpool should hold 4th the test will be the run of Utd arsenal and everton in a row.

if he stays fit liverpool should hold 4th You sound like you are trying to persuade yourself Pool will get 4th in the hope of it not happening.
I think Everton are very strong at the minute and should be favourites for 4th, after this weekend Pool have Manure away, Everton at home and Arse away in successive weeks, they'll tell a lot but can't see Pool getting much more than draws at OT or Emirates whereas Everton are at home to West Ham and Derby

Yea and fulham before that and Birmingham after them which are 4 winable games . but we still have Liverpool , chelsea ,arsenal and villa in the run in which will be incredibly hard games. boro last day should be 3 points aswell.
There is 15 points we have to take which would give everton 71 points which is very high and would normally garuntee you 4th spot

Liverpool are in 4th spot and are in better form than everton even if everton match them point for point its still no good. But 5th would still be a success its just 4th would free up more money for moyes to spend.

Cadamarteri had pace and big Dunc could head the ball so they both have one more attribute that they are good at than Kuyt who is just useless at everything.

Just leaving work now to make it over to the game. Travelling more in hope than expectation, if we pull this off, it will rank up there with the best ever performances in the club's history.

So anyone going to the Liverpool/Reading match this weekend, being my first time heading over as a Big Pool fan, do you think he will rest Torres?? I certainly hope not, he is a joy to watch this season but was thinking last night:

If you could partner him with a new TOP CLASS striker next season, who would it be??

They have been playing like that all season the question is can they keep it up and see out the season big dissapointment best way to bounce back now is to batter Fulham.

Very disapointed obviously but at the same time very pleased with how we played. We absolutley battered them. We should have finished the game in normal time.

Osman, arteta, lescott and jagielka were superb.

Anybody who thinks that Everton couldn't cut it in the Champions League is wrong after that display. We made the 3rd or 4th best team in Italy look like a Championship side.

Goodison was rocking as well, probably the best atmosphere I've ever been at.

Very important now to bounce back with a win on Sunday to keep the pressure on the other side. We won't obviously win a trophy now so we have to make sure we get 4th.

This is only the start though, with the news that Lescott signed a long term deal yesterday, this side is going to be together for the next 4 or 5 years and who knows what they could achieve.

Up for the flight home at 5am this morning to be in work, it's going to be a long day.....

Anybody who watched the away leg would beg to differ. They destroyed you in Italy.

You played well last night against an Italian side who were content to sit back. Fair play to you's for getting back into it but the standard of your penalties was pathetic.

At the end of it all, you failed to get the job done over the 2 legs. You crashed out against the first remotely decent side you came up against.

hit the post and a great save how are they pathetic penalties ?

Penalties are a lottery Everton played 10 games in the Uefa cup this year won 8 drew 1 lost 1 very unlucky to go out but it shows we are moving in the right direction.

That's just a ridiculous assesment. Yes, we were crap in the first leg but they didn't create anything like the amount of chances that we did last night. They didn't destroy us, we just had a very bad night.

As for the first decent team, we beat zenit at Goodison who have since knocked out Villareal and Marseille (the same marseille who won at anfield this season) since then.

Everton are the 4th or 5th best team in the strongest league in europe. We still need a bit of experience in Europe but of course we could hold our own in the champs league. Maybe not against the 4 or 5 very best teams but definitely against the rest. For example, we would definitely have qualified from Liverpool's group this year. From a group of porto, besiktas and marseille? we would definitely have made it out

And the same Marseille Liverpool beat 0-4 at the Stade Velodrome.

Everton might be a less successful Celtic in the Champions League if they ever got into it - very hard to beat at home, a sieve away.

Perhaps you would have qualified, but I don't think it would be definite. Turkey is a difficult place to go to and Porto are an excellent side. They, like Everton were very unlucky to go out of the Champions League and were the better side over two legs. From what I heard from a Porto fan they were relatively unlucky in Germany and then absolutely destroyed them at home but just couldn't convert their chances. Marseille, however, were probably lucky to play Liverpool at anfield on a night when plenty of players were off form.

I would have to disagree. Psychologically it makes a big difference. The longer Liverpool go without beating them it's going to keep getting harder. That said, it has to happen eventually, but going to Old Trafford is not going to be easy. Liverpool played Utd on the back of a 4-0 victory in Marseille and lost against them. United's game against Bolton in midweek will help though, as Liverpool will have all week to prepare for this game.
