...Christ I envy you. I am having an absolute shocker this season! Down €100 already...this has never happened to me before.

Most of my betting is done on Champions league doubles/trebles. I absolutely cleaned up on them last season. Hopefully, this will be where i pull it back in the coming weeks:o

Im loving this season won 35 on rooney to score first and 260 on a 7 game accumalator which included rangers winning away V lyon !!

Us 0-1 Marseille

Well, there goes the "sure the French league is rubbish" theory in the bin. As a Liverpool and Marseille fan (Ligue 1 only), I hope we will get the 2 wins from Besiktas, and that Marseille can help us out with 2 wins against Porto, thereby ensuring the final game in the Velodrome is meaningless.

Credit to the OM fans on their support and non-stop singing at Anfield, showing English club fans how to create an atmosphere at a run of the mill game. :o

A survey of English football fans revealed what Reds supporters have known all along - Anfield has the best atmosphere in Europe.
The poll, conducted by property consultants Drivers Jonas Sport, ranked Liverpool's famous stadium ahead of the likes of Real Madrid's Bernabeu and Barcelona's Nou Camp, which was the highest-placed side from mainland Europe in fifth place.

Celtic's Parkhead came second while Portsmouth's Fratton Park was a surprise third.

I assume this is a pi$$take?!?!

Phew:D

Worst start to go a goal down and a terrible performance 1st half ,second half started great lescott scored 1-1 then everton shot themselves in the foot again to go 2-1 down . But all credit to the players they picked it up and a brilliant turn and shot from Faddy put us ahead on away goals and then Big Vic with 2 mins to go chased down a nothing clearance and as the defender tried to head it back to the keeper he snuck in took it past the keeper a defender turned back inside the defender and stuck it past the keeper really good goal superb confidence to keep his head .

Through to the group stages but they will have to have a serious look at there europeen tactics came so close to getting it all wrong again

From the absolute pits of despair, to something approaching optimism!! If we lost last night, I really don't think there was anything for Moyes to do but quit. Result apart, we were muck but that doesn't matter, we showed real guts and spirit in the last 20 minutes and no little skill through faddy and vic.

Now suddenly, we've won 3 on the spin, are in the group stages of the uefa cup, in the top 5 of the premier league, big favourites to reach the 1/4 of the Carling Cup and cahill, vaughan, grav and AJ are all close to returns to the team. It actually feels good to be an everton fan today. With 3 out of 5 going through, we really should make it through the groups, i'm looking forward to some european trips!!!

Big plus of the night was Lescott, good enough to play for england even at left full!! Vic, Faddy, Tim Howard all did well and Pienaar did too after a slow start. It was also good to see the team win when arteta was having a rare off day, too often we sit back and wait for him to win games for us.

But there was plenty of minuses too. Jagielka can maybe cut a little slack as I don't think he is a midfielder but Yakubu has no excuse. Almost twice as expensive as Beattie and looking twice as bad, he has to have a massive improvement soon if he is to justify playing ahead of vic. 20m spent on strikers and probably are 2 best strikers are the kids that came through the youth team!!

We really need to spend some money on the centre of midfield in January though

You wnated Moyes to quit if we lost last night ! How long have you been following Everton ? Can you seriously see Moyes sening on the team telling them to hoof it up the Park to AJ, McF and Yak ?

eh, I've supported Everton for about 20 years, not bad for a 28 year old. I don't know if moyes tells neville, jagielka, stubbs and yobo to hoof the ball up the pitch everytime they get the ball but he bought them all and plays them week in and week out and yet that is what they do.

Trust me, I remember how bad we were under Walter Smith and know how far moyes has brought us to be even talking about europe but if after 5 years, if that was the best that Moyes could do and we had gone out of Europe at the first stage again, then yes i think he probably should have gone. I'm actually a more of Moyes in man normally but let's face it, we were total crap in both legs agaisnt a pretty average side. I just don't see where Moyes could have gone with this team had we lost last night. With the exception of arteta and possibly pienaar and faddy, we don't have enough players comfortable in possession. Plus I'm very worried that we have wasted 11m on a striker who is worse than James Beattie whilst neglecting to strenghten a midfield that has been our weak spot throughout Moyes' reign.

However, football is a very fickle game. We showed great spirit and guts, Vic showed again what a promising player he is, Arteta did what really good players do and looked to get on the ball when his team needed him most and Lescott continues to look like he could develop into the best defender in england. Moyes is a good manager and plenty of other managers can look back to one defining game in their career. I hope this is Moyes' and we can go on and build on this. With 3 out of 5 going through from the group, we really should go through. We really should beat Luton to make the 1/4 finals of the carling cup, if we got a home draw there, who knows. This could be an exciting season but Moyes has spent more money than any other everton manager and risen our expectations, this is the least that we can expect.

Compare him to the rest of the league he has spent very little, Don't compare him to what went before as we had not a dime. Players like Yak needs to be given time. Your right about one thing we needed a midfielder this summer and did not get the one we were after for whatever reason. But i really don't think we can start totally blaming the front lads when the rest of our team is playing them balls that are coming down with ice on them. But Moyes to quit no way this is a decent period in our history we all remember what happened after the UCD game and at it in the Cup winners Cup !

By the way anybody going over to Liverpool for the UEFA cup Group games ? The Midweek games are handy for me.

I know what you're saying and I think Moyes has been great for us but going out at the first stage of europe again to not a particularly great side whilst playing so poorly would have been hard to take. And we definitely couldn't afford the sort of collapse that happened after bucharest but anyway, it didn't, we're through and Moyesy is still the right man for me!!

I'll have to wait for the draw and see what sort of work committments I have then but I definitely want to do 1 home game and 1 away game in the groups.

On the question about should moyes go i dont think so he has done wonders the team is totally different and on there day they play well and can match most teams, the problem is that with injuries form etc he has rarely had his best 11 on the pitch .

I was thinking at 1 nil down in uefa that he would have to go for us to make the leap in europe but im willing to give him his chance now he got us this far see if he can learn how to take them the next step himself .

The biggest problem I have with Moyes is that the football that we play is total and utter crap. There is no point in pretending otherwise. Arteta is a superb player and is so far ahead of the rest of the squad, it's embarassing at times but if he is not playing or is off form, then we really are poor. For me, our central midfield is the biggest problem. I know cahill and gravesen have been injured this season but I'm not sure they will instantly solve all our problems. We need more players in midfield who are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

I can overlook the quality of play when the results are going well because at the end of the day, that's all that really matters but if the results start dropping off, then I think Moyes would have to have a serious look at himself.

And he may yet have signed his own death warrant by spending 11m on Yakubu when our midfield is so poor.

Dont forget he was bringing in Fernandes untill the last second , and it remains to be seen what Yak does but he needs to up his game but at the same time our style doesnt suit him Beattie was the sam e( he has 7 goals in 7 games this season i know its a league down but it cant be that much of a difference considering he scored 0 from play last year .

We need a really good central midfielder ive the fingers crossed that VDM comes good and artettacan push into the middle giving us some flair i there .

Some days we play really well but other days the defenders just lump it at the strikers and not even that well , Neville is the biggest culprit but you will hear moyes tellign him pass it on the ground . But remember while the football isnt arsenal standard it has worked for Chelsea & Liverpool .

I think his biggest mistake was makign neville captain now he cant drop him and is tryign to play him in midfield where he is no good

I know about Fernandes and it still makes me want to cry, he would have made such a difference for us.

I've long given up on VDM, i know he had problems with his child during the summer but at this stage a fresh start would suit everybody. I've seen a few people who want Arteta to be played in the middle but I'm not one of them, I think playing on the wing suits him much better, I think he'd get lost in the middle. Having said that, we really do need an out and out wide player, Martin Petrov would have been perfect for us.

I'd love us to sign Stephen Appiah in January but whether that is realistic or not I don't know. I just hope the 10m put aside for Fernandes is still around somewhere.

I've no problem with Neville in midfield when we are playing at the emirates or old trafford or some of the other big clubs but when we are at home and need to take the game to the opposition, he is just useless. Carsley and Jagielka are not much better, one has been a great servant but his legs have sadly gone, the other is a defender so it's not fair to say he is a bad player, just somebody who is being played totally out of position. Both Jagielka and Neville's best position is probably right full which is crazy when you think that in our last home game, they started the game as our centre midfield while the actual right fulll that we played that day has been terrible this season (actually that middlesboro game was Hibbert's best of the season but he is still not good enough for us now if we are to progress)

Shows how far we have come as a team though 2 years ago Hibbert was one
of the players first on everyone team sheet and Kilbane and Davies got the slack now its Hibbert and Neville that are standing out .

The problem with hibbert is if he has ossy in front of him he gets no help and as no real outlet but play Artetta there and he battles back all day and hibbert can give him the ball to disstribute as his main job is defending not getting foward . Neville then starts knocking the ball long and if you saw the Sheff wens game when he came on he totally changed the game and got down the wing and got in the crosses that set up all the goals so he can do it .

Ive just a little hope for VDM i dont think moyes will give him a go it was set up V boro for him to come back 10 mins to go winning 2 nil VDM can hold the ball and get down the wings but he brings on Carsley and yobo and gives boro the edge again .

He might be very young but Vidarsson in the reserves is very good saw him a few times now and his positioning and passing is quality he was far better than the midfielders we had on .

Keep an eye on Jose Baxter he is 15 plays for the reserves has scored a few got called up to the england under 16's has been signed up by Rooneys agent and signed a big deal with Nike !!! .if him and Kissock can make the step up in the next 3 years it will be brilliant .

I'd be very hopeful about Baxter, I've heard a lot of good things about him. Not sure about Kissock, I saw him when they played Bohs here a couple of years ago and he is very small, makes Osman and Pienaar look like giants. Jack Rodwell is the one to watch out for, the best English centre half in his age group, I think he is a year older than Baxter and has broken into the reserves this season.

Talking about youngsters, it can't be long now before James Vaughan is back, there is no telling how good he can become if he gets a good run of injury free games. Any other time time Anichebe would be getting a lot of attention but good and all as he is, Vaughan is head and shoulders over him.

Yea Tim cahill, Tommy G and Vaughan are all back training this week doing some running and work with the ball . waiting on the go ahead from the specialist to start full training again so id say end of oct should start seeing them again . Great news Vaughan is quality big hopes for him all right .

Kissock is small but a genius on the ball very talented , and remember Maradonna was tiny too !!!

Faddy Yak ( or maybe Vic i think he deserves the start )

Speaking of Arteta

There have been a few stories coming out over the weekend linking him with chelsea, madrid and the likes. We have to fight have to keep him at Everton. This is a chance to show that we have serious ambitions of breaking into the top 4.

If he does go, given that he signed a 5 year deal in the summer, we should be putting a price tag of 20m on him, 15m at the minimum but to be honest, I wouldn't consider selling him at any price because he is our best player by some distance.

He will leave i just hope its later rather than sooner as you say our best player by a mile i think he is gettign very ****ed off at everton ive seen him in the last few games giving out (which he normally doesnt do) to neville and the likes for lumping balls up the pitch. Its stupid as it takes our best player out of the game .

We can put a 20 mill price tag on him but we wont get it he is worth it but if he asks to leave there isnt much we can do. Im not surprised lazy journalists have been writting this story for the last 3 years,

Happens every club its very hard to keep players when the big boys come knocking but like Grav i dont think he is good enough yet i love the guy but im sure Fabergas would be on there list ahead of him. I think if he did go he would find himself in and out of the team and floating around in a year or two again.

Im confussed what point are you making are you saying that Artetta would be ahead of Fabregas on Reals shopping list ?? Fabregas is a far better long term option when you consider the players age and skill levels .

Wouldnt think so about Tommy G ive allways felt that he was average enough for 4 years then played well for 4 months and left in jan. i suppose if you look back you could find something or other.

Maybe something like this about Gerrard

These 4 players could turn our season around ........but unfortunately i don't see any of them playing a significant part tomorrow. I'd love cahill to play but after 3 serious injuries in the space of a year, we have to be careful. As much as I'd love to see him playing tomorrow and getting his usual derby goal, it's more important to have him for the rest of the season. Could maybe play the last 20 minutes or so.

It's going to be very interesting to see what team moyes picks tomorrow. Long midweek trips for lescott, mcfadden and neville means that i think all 3 are unlikely to start and it could be lescott that misses out given that we have the best cover for him. I actually think he hasn't played as well this season as he did last year, he has played well but has cost us goals with lapses in concentration like at spurs and Newcastle. Midfield is again going to be a problem but I think he'll go with Carsley and Neville. Hopefully Cars can do his usual derby day marking job on Gerrard if he plays. Up front, with them having to play Hyppia, it's a real pity we don't have the pace of AJ. Big Vic has done his best work when coming off the bench this year so I'd leave him there for the first hour at least. Yakubu has been utter utter crap for us but you have to hope, he sees this game as his chance to make his mark at Goodison. So I think we'll line up somehting like

Howard

Hibbert Yobo Stubbs Baines

Pienaar Cars Neville Arteta

Yakubu McFadden

Subs:

Wessells
Anichebe
Cahill
Jagielka/ Gravesen
Lescott

I'd really love Arteta to leave his mark on a derby but if we are to have a match winner, it could be McFadden if his trip to Georgia hasn't taken too much out of him.

At least Carsley will be fresh he hasnt played in ages but along side neville they offer us nothing going foward Neville being the only player with a negative goal difference !!( 2 own goals 1 goal scored ). Think we need lescott on the pitch over stubbs ,Baines i think has to start Hibbert being the only person on the pitch from the city should be up for it.

Its time for Yakubu to pull up his socks and get moving but we need to get the ball in front of him no point giving him the ball with his back to goal he isnt quick enough to turn and do anything with it .

Ref was right with the 2 pen decisions, 2 red cards, (handball and a pro foul) only booking Kuyt, and not giving the Toffees their penalty claim. They seem to forget that there's no guarantee they'd score it, especially with Reina in goal, who saved his last penalty in the league.:D

I think you'll find Everton are considerably closer to Liverpool than Cork City!

Liverpool got very, very lucky today. The first penalty could have gone either way. Everton had two legitimate penalty claims especially at the end when Carragher clearly pulled down Lescott. The most blatent non-call I've seen in a long time.

How many other shots on target did Everton have in the game?
