I know this may sound callous, but it might not be such a bad thing for Cisse. He probably wouldn't have made the French side, probably would have had a bad World Cup, and found his value plummeting.
Sympathy aside, and I genuinely do have sympathy for him, he's not a world class striker and never will be. He's still going to be worth whatever it was before the tournament now, and at least he'll be able to secure a move without having made a show of himself on a World stage.

I thought the French coach said he was going to start the games with Henry and Cisse up front ? Maybe I am wrong but could have sworn that was mentioned on Euro news last week.

He said that the side for his final warm up match would be the starting team for the WC, so Cisse would have started.

A MULTI-MILLION pound plan to build a new Everton FC stadium in Kirkby is revealed today.
The club is in talks with Tesco and Knowsley council to build a 55,000-seater ground as the centre-piece of a massive development just outside the town centre.
The move would create hundreds of jobs and almost double the size of Kirkby town centre.
As well as the new stadium it would include:
* A Tesco supermarket
* A hotel
* A range of high street shops
* Extensive car parking
Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has already said the club would decide this summer whether to stay at Goodison Park or move to anew ground.
Story continues
ADVERTISEMENT
And the ECHO understands the Kirkby plan is by far the most viable since the much-vaunted Kings Dock stadium project collapsed in 2003.
The involvement of cash-rich Tesco - whose chief executive Sir Terry Leahy is an Evertonian and an advisor to the Blues board puts it way ahead of other suggested sites in places such as Central Docks and Switch Island.
An injection of private money would immediately ease the inevitable financial headache that the club faces if it tries to build a £150m ground by itself.
But discussions are still at a very early stage, and sources stress there are a number of hurdles to be cleared -including how much the development would cost and how exactly it would be paid for.
But the plan does tick a number of important boxes for Everton, such as excellent transport links to the M57 and Merseyrail network, and its location, which is just four miles from Goodison.
The only criteria it does not meet is that it is outside the Liverpool city boundary.

Yes. Even with a broken leg you are always good enough to play for Marseille.

What's your predictions for this season Anto? I'm predicting Liverpool 2nd (happy with the signings so far and we should push Chelski close before overtaking them the following season ;) ) and Everton 10th....
I support Everton and I reckon this season we will be back where we belong , fighting relegation , at least it will make for a more interesting season than mid table mediocrity.:D

Everton should definitely be looking at top 8 and challenging for a UEFA Cup.
Johnson is a superb signing and as well as scoring goals himself, he should help bring out the best in beattie. The midfield is pretty strong, i really rate Arteta as one of the top midfielders in the league and Cahill should bag his usual share of goals. It would be great if Van Der Meyde can get fully fit to show what he can really do but if we could get a really pace winger I'd be delighted.
In goal, Howard is a big improvement on Wright, hopefully we won't see much of Weir and that Yobo and Lescott make a good partneship. So all in all it looks good, a decent cup run would be nice too!!!
As Liverpool, I couldn't give a t**s about them!!!

You can't knock you're optimism ;) I'll give you a more realistic oulook....
Johnson- jury still out about whether he can consistently cut it at the top level.
Arteta - a good player but hardly one of the top midfielders about
Van Der Meyde - injury prone, over-rated and apparently doesn't want to play for you...
Lescott - unproven
Cahill - he only started playing well towards the end of the season due to over playing and tiredness IMO, the World Cup and another extended season has hardly done him any favours.
All in all, there's a lot of if's and buts IMO.

I don't think Johnson has anything to prove to anybody. He has scored goals consistently for the last 3 or 4 seasons and I don't think there is a single striker that everton could have who have been better. We have been crying out for a bit of pace since kanchelskis and like i said, he will bring the best out of beattie.
I've the agrument about arteta with lots of people. He is obviously not at the level of the likes of gerrard, lampard, ballack but he is at very top of second tier of midfielders in the prem. Excellent passer, great vision, superb on set pieces and loves a tackle. He also showed a pretty good turn of pace when he played on the wing towards the end of the season. Probably the only reason that he is not in the spain squad is that he doesn't offer enough of a goal threat.
Obviously, Lescott is a gamble but he is very highly rated and only time will tell.
You could be right about Cahill, he had a bit of a break around christmas i think and it did him the world of good. I wouldn't mind seeing him get an extra couple of weeks off because he is natrually fit anyway and is a great asset when fully fit.
Don't know where you heard that Van Der Meyde doesn't want to play. I could get you 3 or 4 articles since the end of the season where he says how much he wants to play for us next season. He played 90 mins on Saturday and although he tired towards the end, he is supposed to have played very well.
What about liverpool????
Bellamy - an injury prone woman beater
Aurelio - good player when he is fit but is even more injury prone that bellamy
You're about to sign Kuyt who looked absolutely crap in the world cup - Kezman mk 11
You'd love to sign alves but can't afford him

HHmmmm this season holds so much promise
last year beattie was injured for the start of the season only got going in october and still bagged 11 goals if he gets a good run injury free id hope for that to jump to 15 , playing with AJ will help him aswell as last year playing with Mcfadden (as much as i like the guy he isnt prem quality yet) left him on his own up front most of the season .
AJ should get 15 goals as well i hope he cuts out the diving we dont want cheats at everton , he has proven he can score goals so he better stay on his feet .
VDM now fit thank god probibly the second best ball carrier/ passer we have after Artetta , wants to stay and prove himself and hopefully injury free he will .
Lescott and yobo hopefully form a tight partnership and hopefully yobo signs the feckin contract stop arsenal sniffing around .
Hibbert one of the most under-rated player in the league should defo be on the england team ahead of neville and carra at right back.
WC Semi finalist nuno valente having settled in the area should now give a good performance .
Howard in goals loosing Martyn was such a kick in the stones one of the best keepers in the prem over the last 2 or 3 years , loosing him was worse than loosing rooney . hopefully howard does the job because Richard "i cant jump off the ground "wright is rubbish . and turner wont be ready for another year .
Cahill and Artetta in midfield will be as dangerous as ever along with neville offering a bit of steel plus the class osman brings and as allways super lee carsley .
Kilbane and Davies should be gotten rid of , weir and stubbs used only as cover or for league cup games along with that other squad members such as naysmith, pistone etc ...
Plus dont forget the kids Vic you just broke into the first team at the end of last season scored 2 the other day for the first team in a friendly , plus JP Kissock might make the step up
im thinking a top 10 finish at least its progress but realisticly top 7 , remember we only finished a few points behind our 4th place tally from 2 years ago 2 or 3 more wins would have gotten us up in the mix again , only for the terrible start when we lost 7 out of 8 after being robbed in the champs league by that dodgy ITALIAN ref !?! .
i think spurs are going to be dangerous lennon on the right and duff on the left arse and utd are on the decline its between liverpool and spurs for 2nd place . no one will catch chelsea
its between liverpool and spurs for 2nd place

an article in the Times......
Our correspondent offers 18 league and five European titles as evidence.
No other supporters cling to their heritage such as Liverpool fans. One man carries a half-size metal replica of the European Cup to games, passing the trophy round pubs as grinning reds queue up to have their photograph taken with it, as if it were the real thing.
Callow adolescents sing of "the fields of Anfield Road, where once we saw King Kenny play", something that Dalglish last did seriously before they were born. Such anachronisms are easy to mock. Especially since this is a club that has not won the league since 1990.
This is an age of insane rebranding, where the past is often seen as worthless. So, hail to the Fink Tank for daring to believe that the past matters; that football existed before 1992. Expect a letter from the Premier League's solicitors, Finksters - didn't Blair's Government ban all talk of the past some time in 2001? Yet another of the scourges of modern life is the utilisation of resources in academia to prove the bleedin' obvious. The man in the pub with the miniature European Cup could have saved the Fink Tank hours of research and mountains of cash. If one club has won the title 18 times - three more than the next contestant - then it is clear who is best.
Only the mindlessly bigoted could disagree with Liverpool topping the table. Eighteen titles - championships, we used to say before the marketing men stole the word for the second-raters - begin and end the discussion. And that is before five European Cups are introduced as proof.
But football is not about evidence. It is as subjective and complex as poetry and depends on interpretation. So the Fink Tank's mathematical certainty is just a jumping off point for the quarrels that will follow. Manchester United supporters, for example, their egos inflated by years of self-delusion - "We're the biggest club in the world," they say - will stake their claim. They invoke romance and tragedy, as if they are exclusive to Old Trafford, and cite massive, half-hearted fan clubs in Bangkok, each member wearing a fake replica kit, as proof of global greatness. Come back when you have won four more titles.
Arsenal can make a case for ascendency with their longest continuous spell in the top flight, an impressive achievement. The marble halls and the sense of tradition make the club a unique institution. Recently, they have leavened the patrician attitude with a revolutionary attitude to importing foreign talent. It is hard not to be impressed. It is as compelling a case for greatness as can be made when you come to the table holding only 13 titles.
Yet this is the club that began life in southeast London, decided there were richer pickings to be had by squatting in Tottenham Hotspur territory and blagged their way into the top flight without having to bother with something as tiresome as winning promotion. Luciano Moggi, the Juventus fixer, is a mere amateur compared with Sir Henry Norris, who managed to get a team that finished fifth in the second division into the first in 1919 - and a Tube station renamed for the club.
Knowing that the aristocrats began life as robber barons puts their airs and graces in a different perspective.
As for Chelsea supporters, who will feel rather put out that Huddersfield Town and Burnley rate higher, there is some sympathy. For all the importance of the past, being top of the pile now should carry some extra cachet. As it happens, the history at Stamford Bridge is rich and full of bizarre characters, from William "Fatty" Foulke, the goalkeeper who weighed 26st, to Ken Bates, the former chairman, whose idea of getting the supporters buzzing was to use electrified fences for crowd control. Sadly, the days when Chelsea were a sideshow were more entertaining than recent winning Saturdays at Stamford Bridge, when Jose Mourinho's overefficient drabs have succeeded without any sense of fun and left empty seats in their wake. Those stayaway Chelsea supporters prove that there is more to football than winning trophies.
But Liverpool are the greatest club and, furthermore, this table proves that they are based in the greatest football city in England. All the Fink Tank records worth having are shared between the city's two clubs, with Everton - once the "Mersey Millionaires" and now, hilariously, "The People's Club" - playing the most games in the top flight and scoring the most goals.
Mere dry statistics? Well, the city has bred England's two best players in Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. The epicentre of English football sits on the east bank of the Mersey.
The man in the pub with the cup could tell you that, too. He'd be even more vehement if he was carrying a newly-minted trophy this time next year - a Premiership replica would be ideal.
Even though it is nice to be the best ever, history is far sweeter in the making than in the remembering.

I like the new kit. Nice to see Addidas back after their 10-year LFC sabbatical. :)
Won't be rushing out to buy it though. It's due to be replaced again next season, as this is Carlsberg's final year of shirt sponsorship, and a new kit will have to be designed to accommodate the new sponsor next year. :o

Kuyt or Torres will sign for us then just after that the takeover by the Krafts will take place (by 1st September) enabling us to have the money by end of September when the Objective 1 money runs out for our new Anfield stadium. Kuyt is a decent player, very powerful, good in the air and would probably do very well in the Premiership. Especially if you're looking at Gonzalez/Kewell/Pennant swinging in crosses at every chance.
He's not very mobile though and not very technically good. But neither is Drogba and he's done fine..... Can't see us signing a Torres 'cos we simply don't have the money. Who would I sign? Dean Ashton - completely under-rated, top class player and the next Teddy Sheringham in the making. Far better option than Kuyt IMO.....

Use a bit of common sense eh Jockser...and before the World Cup I wouldn't have regarded Kuyt as a big player (yet). Torres wouldn't have been classed as in the top tier yet either but he's closer to it than Kuyt.
