Crowley off
Mcfaul on
I don't understand why McFaul doesn't start more often - always seems to add something when he comes on. Can't argue with Pats' results recently mind.
I don't know who this Big Joe lad is but I want him to commentate on the next game.

I think he was one of the fans who went with Pats to the backend of Russia when they played Krylya.

Dissapointing result. With no away goal Pats are vulnerable. Good night for the Irish League sides.

Maybe it's a bit greedy after recent years but I'd have thought that to be a poor result for Pats - is that unfair?
Straightstory
30/06/2011, 7:52 PM
No - very poor result. Possibly unlucky though.

30/06/2011, 7:53 PM
Poor result, but results like that can happen. Should overturn it next week though - in which case it doesn't matter.

They had 13 corners according to Bet365, so they were obviously pushing hard.
I'd expect them to at least bring it to extra time in Richmond though. Early goal and Pats should go through.

Didn't deserve to lose. Created a fair few chances, and will create a lot more in Inchicore. Still expect to go through

Disappointing result, that. I'd be hopeful they can overturn it at home. Am I correct in thinking that the loss won't negatively affect any co-efficient so long as Pats go through?
holidaysong
30/06/2011, 8:32 PM
No, the national co-efficient is based on results in individual games. It's the club co-efficient which is based on progression through rounds.

What time is that Irish time?
Edit... seems Iceland is gmt/bst. I always thought they were at least an hour behind.
One country in Europe behind us in summer, amazing the amount of people who don't know what it is.
It will be 6 games alright but it needs to be on a consistent enough basis over a few years for people to take notice. Shel's had a one-off good season in Europe but did not back it up. I haven't seen any Irish club back up one good run with another.
It's not just 6 games, it's the 3-4 hour long coverage on Sky for CL teams every gamenight. It's the multiple highlights shows, the weekly magazine shows on Irish and British tv, the red buttons, RTE forced to cover Irish teams live in Europe with the panel, instead of Chelsea's 3rd game in the group phase against CSKA Sofia, that kind of thing. The worldwide exposure you also get is massive, as every country wants to broadcast the CL. People whether they want to or not, will notice. Shels didn't get that far, and while it's unlikely we will also, at least the possibility is there.
The UEFA Cup doesn't have the same glamour, but if we got to the group phase, it will be further than any LOI side has ever reached before. Instead of RTE covering the games, TV3 would have to find a slot for us, instead of Stoke v Chisinau in November instead.
