Kazachstan is far enough, but European football is all about travel and adventure. You can visit Wales or Holland anytime.

I think the point may be that organizing a trip to Kazakhstan with a week's notice isn't anyone's idea of fun. Or cheap.

Says the man who thinks Tallaght to Phibsboro is a trek...

Do elaborate.

When you have, do tell us what it has to do with LOI in Europe?

Well in the first draw, Wales would have been nice, In the second draw anywhere in Europe would have been nice and in the third draw Holland would have been nice
It was'nt to Bohs!

Is the game on Wednesday definitely on Setanta? I don't see any mention of it on their TV listings. Last weeks game was once it was confirmed.

They cant pay to host the game AND someone to update their website.

The listings haven't been updated but it has been confirmed by Tony Whelan, who I believe is Setanta's head of programming.

Its as impossible to get a bus from Tallaght to Phibsboro as it is to get a plane from Ireland to Kazakhstan.

Evidence? Get a bleeding grip

It was a light hearted jab at your multiple posts here on travel within ireland to LOI games, including your all time classic "there's no direct bus between tallaght and Phibsboro"

Only 2 days ago you posted that the trip to Copenhagen is too expensive, yet you tried to tell PartySaint that European football is about visitng places you don't normally go.

paul_oshea
25/07/2011, 4:39 PM
fight fight fight fight

I think his point was its the more exotic places, i.e. copenhagen wouldn't be somewhere you wouldn't normaly think of going, or at least compared to the nether regions of eastern europe for a hoilday.

You get a bleeding grip. You were asked to prove it, and you couldn't. Accept it.

I didn't say anything here or elsewhere, about "Tallaght to Phibsboro is a trek", and as I've caught you out, you've been forced into an embarrassing climbdown. And the "no direct bus" is as correct today as it was 12 months ago. Go ask Dublin Bus, if you don't believe me.

Furthermore, it has zero to do with LOI teams in Europe.

Ukraine is dirt cheap and borders 7 countries, so there's a fair number of ways of getting there. It's not Australia you're going to.

The number of countries it borders has absolutely no bearing on how easy (or cheap) it is to get there. What do you suggest...that the Sligo fans going to Poltava take one of Ryanair's regular flights from Dublin to Moldova or Belarus and get the bus from there? Lvov airport is served by a grand total of 6 international routes..Vienna, Prague, Munich, Warsaw, Timisoara, and Moscow

The brother paid €975 for a return ticket to Australia a few months ago.

Booking a flight to Kiev (a 5 hour train journey where the game is) the middle of last week, for out Tuesday and back Friday, cost nearly €850.

Budapest and Kiev is 7 hours from Lvov, Warsaw is 6, Krakow is 5, Rzeszow is 2,5.

Presumably to have the game played during daytime to meet UEFA floodlight requirements? Galway did similar in the league a couple of years ago when their floodlights broke.

Dodge

yeah, they're floodlights aren't up to the standard required but they got a UEFA derogation as they can play the game in sunlight

I don't suppose any Ukrianian TV are going to come over to show the matches, but are both Pats and Sligos matches on Ukranian TV on thursday?

I was here and annoying everyone well before you kingdom :p

I'm only a blow in, but looking forward to the next couple of days hopefully get to see both of the games - that are being televised.

The weeks of july I always look forward to from a football point of view, especially now that LOI sides results are improving year on year( i mean clubs, not just 1 or 2 individual teams) consistently and more clubs progressing further

Heard on Sky sports news that if Rangers fail to overturn 1 nil defeat next week that they are out of Europe for this season, so as they are in the same round as Rovers and I heard if Rovers loose they will go into Europa League playoffs.

So whats the story, who's right & will rovers be in the playoff round of Europa League should they lose to FC Copenhagen?

Dodge
26/07/2011, 11:17 PM
Sky Sports are wrong

Losers of this round, go into Europa league play off round

Losers in the next champions league round go directly into group stages of Europa League

DaveyCakes

Sky Sports shows the Champions League, therefore the Champions League IS Europe. The Europa league does not exist.

Didn't the Champions League rebrand the same year as the Premier League launched? 1992 seems to be the year a fledgling sport called 'football' got its big break alright. I don't think anyone even played it before that.
