Re: the away goal. It's not a disaster, it only matters in the event of a level aggregate score at the end next week. We're capable of getting 3 if needed, if we get one of them early on.

I certainly would have taken the current scoreline after 4 minutes, it's very much Game On.

How can you say that when they scored one goal over 180+ mins against far inferior opposition in the previous leg.

And i think you will see i said the early goal could have been a blessing for rovers which i think it was
its just a real shame they dint get an away goal.i still think it was a good result and a super performance but they were not the better side as has been pointed out by neutral press outlets.

1 goal in 2 matches against one of the worst sides an Irish club has ever played, and you thnik getting 3 in 1 match against Copenhagen won't be too much of an issue?

'One of the worst sides an Irish club has ever played'? Think about that for a moment. That's the dumbest comment I've ever seen here.

Correction! You mean Floriana in the last round. I thought you meant Copenhagen! (Apologises - eats humble pie). However, I think Rovers have a chance.

The most important part about playing 2 legged games is you are still in the tie after the 1st game, and Rovers have achieved this, so it is a good result.

Deffo a great result for the unwashed ;) 1-0 away result gives them more than a fighting chance of progressing and last nights (through gritted teeth) excellent performance should dispell any inferiority complex they might have had.
Important not to concede early in Tallaght so may need patience but deffo game on.

Yup, the list of countries that haven't gotten there is pretty exclusive!

Malta, Luxembourg, Andorra, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Iceland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Moldova, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, FYROM, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, San Marino, Monaco, Liechtenstein, the Vatican City, and the Republic of Ireland.

Hmmm... Monaco aren't UEFA members so wouldn't be valid. AS Monaco, as a FFF representative have been to 2 European finals including 2004's European Cup.

Liechtenstein don't operate a league and their clubs play in the Swiss system.

Copenhagen were "fancied" to hockey us tonight. They were "fancied" to get more after 4 minutes. They were "fancied" to score after half time. Instead they were frustrated, booed off their own pitch, and knowing they hadn't simply bulldozed their way through. And they won't in Tallaght either.
I don't expect Copenhagen to hockey Rovers or anything like that. I do think they are good enough to score in Tallaght though. A 1-0 home win in Europe puts a team in a good position going into the second leg. If Copenhagen do score 1 in Tallaght I don't think Rovers are capable of scoring 3. Not trying to take anything away from Rovers, like I said it was an excellent performance. But if they want to get past Copenhagen then they will need to play even better in Tallaght.

Which is why it's even worse that we're on the same list as all of them! ;)

(you missed out the Vatican City, who I'm fairly sure don't even have a football pitch. Although both myself and the map forgot about the Faroe Islands, so we'll call it quits!)

Don't know but here's their top striker: http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/50416_351409638342_7425532_n.jpg

I assumed it would be automatically Cesare Prandelli. Shocked at who it is though.

That could be the real diplomatic problem for us.

Did Dan Murray play? He's fantastic at scoring in Europe, scored for us every year we played in Europe and is our all time top scorer in Europe with 5. Tends to bang them in when it matters too, like the CL game in Cyprus.

Would throw a few euro on him scoring in Tallaght if he plays.

Murray very rarely has scored for Rovers, yet still against Bohs naturally...which is my only major criticism of him at Rovers.

He didn't do much, but he might play more often if Oman is out. He also provided my highlight of going head-to-head with Claudemir after Rice fouled him for what should've been a penalty.

"For all that the technical deficiencies of League of Ireland players are generally exposed against teams of these calibre, it is remarkable how often they ship goals in situations they would encounter week to week on home turf."

I thought that was a tad harsh. Perhaps in LOI games they wouldn't encounter the ball coming back in so quickly and also the fact that the opponents last night were physically bigger and better conditioned than they were, again something they would not experience week in week out. I can see his point when he speaks about any fenlon managed team in Europe.

Of those countries the Vatican and Monaco don't field clubs in UEFA competition. Kazakhstan for all the money spent (massive salaries) still don't understand how to spend it properly or get decent players in. Armenia are in chaos, Azerbijan have money but are building up for a new war, Moldova is a country split and at war with itself, the only decent club has amazing facilities but is run as a massive money laundering operation. Georgia is all over the place, the Baltic States are too weak and small market, Wales and N. Ireland ditto, BiH is never more than a day or two from civil war - and whose leagues and clubs are still divided along ethnic lines, Iceland, well, it's Iceland, Luxembourg just tip along, Malta has had money pumped in, with facilities but the league is massively corrupt and strangled. Andorra, too small, Liechenstein's clubs mostly play in the Swiss leagues and FC Vaduz threatened a break through but they were tight with the cash and faltered. The Faeroes aren't there, but they go along with the small tip along leagues. Ireland - well, it could be done but not in 1 year. It takes someone to load in cash for 2-3 years (like Cyprus or Slovenia) and hope for the best.

Moldova have had a club in the UEFA Cup groups anyway (Sherriff), so it's CL only.

Qualifying, they were heavily beaten by...a Cypriot...Israeli side - Tel Aviv perhaps in the previous round, only for the opposition to be disqualified..and then got hammered by Liverpool.
