just a quick aside about that terrible night.
remeber that night vividly.. knew someone who deceided to come home from cork by car that evening even though he went down on the bus..was told about the accident by an old school friend in the a fast food joint called the superdome..couldn't believe it at the time. Unfortunatley the same chap got into a car after speaking to us and got killed out by bunratty about 30mins later....

Well said. Some of these so called Pike people haven't a clue.
Sunday's match isn't a memorial for the bus crash,Simply for Ger,who well deserves it,hasn't been a whisper of it up in the club, since the school boys are playing Sunday as well(or should be).Theres no plans to lay a reed up outside the Cats Cradle. As what happened last year..
And Pike B,if you turned up for B matches we might actually have a chance of keeping them up.. ;)

pike 5 star nill another woeful performance from star there a disgrace it was never a contest
Dunno what match you were at,was 1-0 until half time for Pike,Pike looked tonight like they would have rather been anywhere else.Very poor from Pike in the first half,Very sloppy passing, must have been caught offside half a dozen times at least. As someone said to me,the difference between tonights match and Sunday was that they weren't Fairview..
It picked up considerably after half time to run out a 5-0 win.
Interesting to see what Abbey made of it..

jesus some people really have it in for star, they are not at the level of the top junior sides and i doubt they would claim to be,to call them a disgrace is a bit harsh imo, midweek games don't bring out the best in teams either

Both these games are on in the Pike field this Sunday, The referees are having their match along with the Pike V's Fairview. Over 40's friendly in memory of the Pike Bus crash 21 years.
I didn't think it has been 21 years, seems like yesterday when I heard the news.
Good to see the LDMC supportin these kind of events and not schedueling premier games on sunday. Are they finally bein dragged into the light?!?Are u sure its not 20 years since the crash?
LDMC didn't schedule games for this weekend as there were no referees available for matches.
The referee society asked the LDMC for the use of Jackman Park to hold a charity game in memory of Ger Kiely on a night that wouldn't interfere with juniour or schoolboy/girl soccer. The LDMC REFUSED the use of Jackman Park so an alternative venue was looked for. Pike offered their pitch, for which we are gratefull, we can now honour Ger in a appropiate way.
So no the LDMC are not being dragged into the 21st Century and the LDMC are not supporting either of theser events.

Well in fairness lads, Pike were just too strong for us.
We were still in the game at half time only 1 nil down, but never really created any decent chances, and once Pike got the second and our keeper came out of goals with a hand injury, the game was over as a contest.
Lack of fitness really is shagging us up in the second half of our games recently but we'll bounce back, and our season starts now, with vital games versus the other bottom clubs still to play.
We'll plug away and see how we get on, but a great result for Summerville tonight.:o

are all the players being invited to this match???
remember watching that team play st kevins (i Think) in the fai later that season..
thats a good question
It was St. Francis we played in the FAI that year. We held them in Dublin but were well beaten up in the Pike field. Those were the days when one team went out of town in the FAI and it was years until we did again.
We played out in Shannon on the old Park Rangers pitch two weeks later and Greg Moloney and Joe Bariscale togged out. They obliged us by rolling over 3-0
Im trying to think of the team that day and where they are now
Joe Barriscale - Keeper - Went back to Vereker Clements and played out his days there.
Mike Ryan (Jaws) Left Full - went on to manage teams around town, including Pike and still quite popular in the game:D. Lost his father in the crash, he died a few months later
Pa Mul Left full/Mid Field - Went on to become the most successful manager at Pike in the modern era, lost a nephew in the crash
Tommy Shan Centre Half - was a died in the wool Pike man at the time, never put anything back into the game when he hung up his boots
Dom Considine Sweeper - very elegant footballer. Currently managing Wembley.
Ger Dillon Right Full - managed Pike B for a few years, Havent seen him in years at a match. Father was president for a while. Brothers on committee at the moment
Pat Cunningham Midfielder - The most gifted player I've every played with or against but like a lot of these guys wanted the ball at his feet and got frustrated with the 'skills' of his team mates. Around the club a bit these days. Was never the same player afterwards
Declan Woods Midfielder - the flying winger. Keep your feet closed though and if he couldnt nut meg you he was goosed. Finished up playing before his time for family reasons
Joe Roche Midfielder - Head case enforcer. Havent seen him in years.
Jim Tier Midfielder - Moved to England shortly afterward. I heard a few years later he was jailed for GBH over there.
Greg Moloney - Centre forward, very pacy front man. Work commitments (chef) saw him finish up early as well. A great man to look after you when he was working out in Finnegans.
Tony Morris - Greatest goalscorer I can remember at Pike. Scored goals at all levels and won a LOI medal with Limerick a few years before. Managed Pike with Cla for a spell. Son Dave currently playing up front.
Fran Mullally - Manager, Was in intensive care for a long time after the crash. Tragically lost a young son. Died a few years ago and the current league title is named in his honour. Managed Pike a few different times afterwards
Eddie O Donovan - Was helping Fran around that time but cant remember if he was for that season. Still lives and breaths Pike. Grandson currently playing
Tommy Burke - 'Physio' Died almost a decade ago. grandson Paul still playing junior football around town.
Sorry for boring people with that - hard to believe it was 21 years ago. It was a great time to be involved with Pike. We had some laugh those times training out in UL on Tuesdays and Thursday with that cnuting sand pit. Something died that day that we never managed to get back as a squad and it took the club a long time to recover
Joe Hanley - Secetary, John(?) Ryan - Mike Ryans father and Paul Mullaly - Fran Mullalys 5 year old son died.

Just a slight correction,It was Tony Hanley not Joe Hanley,he was due to become Bar manager of the new clubhouse. And 'Phonsie Ryan.
And to add a few names to the above list. There was 3 killed and 44 injured. Not forgetting Paul O'Shea who as a result was wheel chairbound for the rest of his life.Who passed away in recent years.
Adrian Lipper and John Walsh, who both went on to have great playing days with the club and are now both involved with in the running of the club.John of course being current Chairman. And Adrian involved in the underage setup currently.
Along with Clarence Collins, who currently owns a Pub in town, disappeared from Junior soccer in the following years.Christie Coll,Tom O'shaughnessey and Robert Hennessey, the trio came home by car that evening.
Mick Penny is the only man to have the photo of the team that played that day, still has them. The team forced a 0-0 draw below in Midleton that day.
Once again as Mitre said apologies to those not interested.Just thought I'd add those few.

Its nice to remember....I think Danny Greaney was the Pike Chairman at the time. His two kids got off the bus at Ballyneety and he continued on in the bus and it crashed only down the road from his home.

What??????? You are a bit confused I think mate... I've been ever present for the team this season, and if your remark is a stab at my form, then you are probably one of those people who shows up to watch the B team twice a year when the sun is shining. I've been busting my backside to try keep us up. Not too many of us can say that now can we.;) Anyway, I have no more to say on this thread, If you want to argue more, I'm at the 1B thread, or maybe you want to see me in person.. ;)

so u have to time to train 2 nights a week, hold down a job, spend time wit the family, and be a limerick ultra?u must have some way of extendin the day
And would they not consider signing players from other eircom league clubs?or maybe munster senior league which,in theory, anyway s a higher standard than the limerick premier
Furthermore, would they not be aswell off tryin to entice the better players from junior clubs, and not average ones who struggled to get a game in town...
If you have an interest in my personal life I suggest you PM me because i'm sure everyone on here doesnt really care to be honest.
Limerick do sign players from other Eircom League clubs but surely all players have to start somewhere.
The budget was low this year so yes they signed some average Junior players.
Whats your point? Some of the users on here are like clones, the same begrudges and views on Limerick
