View Full Version : Limerick Premier Division 2007/08
A few quite.......large lads playing with them. :D But they did try to get it down and play, but there was a serious gap in class, even with City playing there 2nd team. But I suppose it's hardly a level playing field when you've got full-time pro's against amateurs.
looked at the cork website and it didnt look much like there 2nd team??

I'd like to second that. Fair play to Ballynanty for coming and actually taking us on, ON THE GROUND, even though the pitch was terrible. Some EL teams could take a leaf from their book!

Ballynanty played exceptionally well considering the difference between both sides division wise. Another factor to consider is that the Cork City lads are been paid for what they do. Best of luck to Balla for next Sunday against Douglas Hall in Cork in the MJC and the following week against Killester in the FAI. Its been a tough few weeks for the lads. Keep the heads up!:ball:

Are you even a soccer fan what team changed managers in the off season
and didn't make changes. cork have 4 players injured and none suspended
i would suggest that you don't know what your talkin about, The team that played against Balla incuding subs and 1 maybe 2 changes is their first choice,
well done to balla credit to junior teams
Also cork to finish 5th in the league this year

I don't think anyone's trying to do that, frankly most people have been pretty complementary - but people who have no idea about Cork City FC telling us what our strongest 11 is, is a bit odd. Fair play to Ballinanty for getting the ball on the deck and, for the most part, not kicking strips out of the professionals, but the majority of the team they played will be in the A Championship in a few weeks. Perhaps if Ballinanty were ambitious enough, they could join them there in a few years and gradually close the gap.
I'm sure you all enjoy your little closed-doors discussions but there are thousands of football fans in this country who want to see teams like yours in a pyramid structure with ourselves. If we can't even objectively compare how teams played against each other when we DO have an opportunity to do so, whats the point? You might as well go play in the night leagues where you're guaranteed no-one will bother you and/or care.

I'm glad we dropped that gurrier Joe Gamble, getting too big for his own boots with his international caps while he's still in the LOI. Almost as bad as that Colin Healy character, does he think he's still in the Champions League Quarter finals with Celtic again? God yeah like I'm certain we'll leave the LOI players of the year for 2005 and 2007, George O'Callaghan and Dave Mooney, out of our line-up. What use for them have we, when we've got David Meyler and Timmy Kiely? If they're good enough for Kilkenny City they'll slot right into our first 11.
See you in September for the UEFA Cup Group Stage.

best way to look at it is this
Team against Balla
Devine, Horgan, Murray, Kelly, Sullivan, Meyler, Softic, O'Brien, Woods, Behan, Kiely.
Substitutions: Mooney for Kiely (65mins), Kearney for Softic (75mins).
Team against Shels
Devine; Horgan, Lordan, Murray, Sullivan; O'Callaghan, Healy, Gamble, Kearney; Behan, Mooney.
7 involved that started V Shels - Devine, Horgan, Murray, Sullivan, Behan,
Subs: Mooney, Kearney. together with legend woods and o'brien, Softic and 3 young fellas - very strong team (7 who played in the FAI Cup final also)
very professional and very good

Well, we have Kevin Doherty, Ger Collopy, Eddie Wallace, Johnathan Griffin, Paddy Ryder, Paul Lyons & myself all currently injured
Of the above, Kevin Doherty may play Sunday all others will be out for a while.

We'll see, but if we do lose then we will be 4pts adrift of Granville with the same games played and could also be 6pts adrift of Corbally with 2 games in hand.
On the other hand, if we win and Wembley beat Corbally, then we are 2pts ahead of Granville with the same games played, and level on Pts with Corbally with 2 games in hand, as well as being 3pts behind Summerville with a game in hand........so it is a big game for us.
