James Shea was in goal and made some nice saves but he is very small for a keeper, as I'm sure he's been told.

He was very poor for Greenwood's goal.

lets get Rory on the phone and pronto! Trap really bottled it with Rory once he recovered his injury.

If we cant nick this guy out of the english we are doomed. This guy has his entire family from Ireland, weve got there the whole nine yards.

What Rice and Grealish did to the national team as a whole is unforgivable, they cheapen Eire , in a way they didnt realize.

From the article in 2014:
“They’ll listen to him quicker than they will me,” laughed Delap. “But you hope the importance of being Irish resonates with them. It meant everything to me growing up. We’ve gone back to the same places I went to when I was a child in Donegal and Meath. They loved it.

"Their granddad has drilled it into them that if they’re any good at anything, it’s Ireland they have to represent. When he said it, they took it all in. So that’s one issue done and dusted then.”

well he has good attitude from today. Tough uncomprimised, not a finesse number 9, but a bit of Hernán Crespo in him, he even looks like him, when Hernán was a teenager and sold to Parma.

He scored a Batistuta goal tonight. now Rory do your promise

I'd imagine that Delap has previously been approached and since he's still with England has decided to play for them. Would be harder to get him now he's on the fringes of Citys 1st team

Sorry still trying to understand the new eligibility situation. As he's third generation, if he hasn't been registered as an Irish citizen before representing England, would he still be eligible for us?

I think that nonsense is now gone. I think...

That wouldn't be a problem at this point for Delap because he hasn't turned 21. It's not completely gone though - if a player plays for another country's underage teams after their 21st birthday and didn't have Irish citizenship before their first appearance for that country (even if that was back at 16 or 17 years of age) they would still be ineligible for us. As you can play under 21 up to the age of 23 at times this could still be an issue for us at some point.

Just heard the news there on Todayfm and Phil Collins was referring to Delap and his son and the goal. I reckon this is going to get noisy for a while if this kid kicks on. Early days though. Which might mean it rumbles on longer!

I think the way England (and specifically Gareth Southgate) led Grealish up the garden path will help us in the long term. No matter what England promise you obviously can't believe a word they say.

if a guy with a name such as Liam Delap cant get a game for Ireland theres something wrong in football.

England is capping guys from Cananda, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago..... had capped guys from Australia in the past.

We must nick Rory's son from angelterre

Well I hope he has a passport sorted, just in case it turns out he's not quite good enough to break into a squad that contains Kane, Rashford, Sancho, Abraham, Ings, Calvert-Lewin, Sterling and Greenwood

Interview of Patrick Bamford with Jamie Redknapp in Daily Mail last week :

REDKNAPP: And if you keep scoring, is part of you thinking about England and Euro 2020?
BAMFORD: I didn’t actually think about it until the squads started getting announced for this latest round of international fixtures and a couple of my mates were winding me up:
‘You’re going to get called up here!’ I was like: ‘Come on, I’ve scored three goals and that’s it.’
But a few people started mentioning it and, in my head, I thought: ‘You know what? If that happens, then it’s a dream come true.’
I’ve got to push and try to compete with the others. We’ve got a very good group of English strikers so it’ll be a good competition. Let’s see if I can put my name in the frame.

Stan was a great player for Ireland and maybe its time to let it go. He got caught up in a stupid idea i.e. Delaney at that time trying to do the job on the cheap. Ok Stan made mistakes but he was great for Ireland as a Player.

He was paid quite well as international managers go. We've since paid stupidly over the odds compared with similar jobs elsewhere.

True, also .....

........Stan exploited the FAi to the full. You could take a legitimate view that he was entitled to financially screw Irish football. Many fans would not agree.

Stan was a great player but he lost some of my respect when he took a job he clearly wasn't in the least bit qualified to do.

He lost a bit more with his stubborn refusal to admit that he was out of his depth no matter how bad the results got and no matter how far he dragged the team into the mud.

He lost the last bit when he rolled a sick and innocent Bobby Robson out to face the media and an enraged public after the San Marino debacle late in his reign.

Yeah, that was a low and I remember thinking, you f*cking coward sending someone else to to that and remembering his - I'm the gaffer I'm the boss- speech in that context. Whatever he did as a player, sending Robson out that day tarnished Stauntons legacy. That day particularly and five goals v Cyprus helped balls it up too obviously.

Guys only university people in Argentina, (not rich upper class people cattle owners etc), since our universities are 70% of all of them for free, will actually know O'Brien as the guy from 1984 of the book of Orwell about a totalitarian state-
government.

This O'Brien young fellow is going to Burnley and it is Paddy Stewart's Huddersfield Town, player of the season, last season
