Along with former irish u16s Egan-Riley and Barry. Barry has always entertained the possibility of ultimately representing ireland... Himself and Delap are the two stars from that squad.

Conor Gallagher came on as a substitute tonight for England at the Euro Under 21 championships (which England look set to crash out of in the groups). As he turned 21 last month this appearance has made him ineligible to play for Ireland at any level.
Not the biggest story of the weekend but anyway. I wonder if he'll ever break into the England first team.

No, he's ineligible. A competitive appearance at underage level after your 21st birthday ties you now with the new rules.
A bit mad that Gallagher is tied to England while Bazunu is not tied to Ireland despite playing a senior world cup qualifier yesterday, but those are now the rules (not that there's any prospect of Bazunu switching - just mentioning it because he is still eligible for Nigeria).

The rules are very difficult to balance but I think they've more or less got this right.
I think the stranger one is that Gallagher is tied to England for an U21 game but Nathan Redmond isn't for a full senior game, albeit a friendly.

I think I’ve posted here before about him but Peter Kioso nabbed two for Northampton Town last night. He’s 21 and his wiki says he’s from Swords but doesn’t seem to have ever featured for us underage. He was on loan with Bolton in the first half of the season where I saw him play in 2 games and he really impressed me. Good attacking right back. His stats are decent and nice to see him stepping up to L1 with apparent ease.
Anyone got any more info on his national status/allegiances? His parents are from DR Congo.

18 year old Darragh Burns scored again last night for St Pats. Second in four games. 18 years of age.
Darragh is from Dublin but his father is from the north and Darragh has been involved with them up to 19s.

Kioso I think previously mentioned a preference for DR Congo. However, and I'm not meaning to be unduly disrespectful to that country here, from what I know of the place it's not somewhere that is a particularly accessible place to build an international career. Potentially more hassle than it's worth is probably what I'm trying to say. So I wouldn't be surprised if he took an Irish call up if offered one. However he's overage for the 21s now so it would have to be a senior call up and I don't think he has shown enough at a high enough level to get one of those so far. Unless there are an absolute raft of calloffs for the June games.
I believe he declared for the DRC but had a change of heart in recent times.

Far from unprecedented, though - sixteen players called up to their senior squad in the last year were born in Europe - most in France with a couple each in England and Switzerland. Although they would have faced much more competition for places in their birth countries' national teams than Kioso does, so hopefully he will come on board - with Coleman likely in his last campaign, it'd be good to have a talented young full-back coming through

There’s really not a lot of right backs at all eligible for our underage sides. Ebosele who might be a winger or a right back and Lee O’Connor who might end up a centre midfielder. Andy Lyons at Bohs. Gavin Liam O’Brien also at Bohs. That’s pretty much all I can think of. I’d say it’s the weakest underage position we have overall.

Obviously no longer underage, but a similar age to Kioso - McNamara is an Irish right back who has had a great year.
Other than the potential interest in capping Kioso because of his dual eligibility McNamara should be ahead of him for a call up. Which is a bit mad because McNamara was behind O'Connor at Under 21 level less than a year ago.

wouldnt worry about a right back when we need a playmaker.
Anyone could play right back/left back with a bit of grit!!!! It is better to have specialists as fullbacks like Irwin, Beglin, Stevens, Carr, Phelan, etc etc
we still got seamus young doherty the Cyrus, browne can play there and Horgan could play there if teached when to go when to stop

I don't know a lot about him but apparently Cameron McGeehan of Oostende in Belgium, a 26-year-old midfielder who has previously played at underage level for the North, qualifies to play for us. He's played 21 matches, scoring 3 goals, in a season that was curtailed by injury.
'My full focus is now on club. I will look at a possible international career later. I played for the national youth of Northern Ireland (through the connection with his grandmother, ed.), But I feel too little connected with the country. Through my (grand) parents I can play for the national teams of England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland, but that is not a priority now.'

Two goals for Kieran Dowell for Norwich today. Has played underage for England - but Wikipedia page states he is eligible for us. As an attacking midfielder he would face a lot competition to get near the English side. It may be possible to poach him. Apparently his full name is Kieran O’Neill Dowell. We’re unlikely to have many attacking players in Premier League next year.

He played for England U21 at the Euros in June 2019 when he was 21 years old. Pretty sure that rules him out with the new rules.

I think Kenny has already confirmed that Dowell wasnt qualified anyway

I'm fairly sure there was a further change to the rules a few months ago which advised that the capped after 21st birthday rule would only apply to appearances from September 2020 onwards, as players who were affected by the rule who had been capped earlier would be unfairly discriminated against, having had no way of knowing at the time the impact that underage or senior cap would have on their future international career options. This was after the ruling was challenged by a would be Moroccan international who had been capped by Spain I think.
Kenny said previously that Dowell didn't qualify for us, but didn't elaborate. Now possibly it's as simple as him not having an Irish grandparent and if so, he obviously can't play for us.
But possibly Kenny was referring to him having been capped by England underage after his 21st birthday. Initially it seemed that ruled him ineligible for us but that is no longer the case. If that was the issue Kenny was referring to he is now eligible for us again.
Hope that makes sense...
Edit: Here is the article about the Moroccan player:

They'll all have to up their game a little bit to get regular game time but it's entirely possible we'll see four young attackers playing and scoring for Premier League Teams next season - Connolly, Idah, Obafemi and Odubeko. There's even an outside chance that Troy Parrott and Evan Ferguson could line out before the end of the season but they would have to really impress in the Autumn and Winter at whatever level they're at

Christy Pym is back from injury to start for Peterborough today.
With Keiren Westwood's Sheffield Wednesday getting relegated, he's potentially the goalkeeper available to us who'll be playing regularly at the highest level next season - assuming he definitely qualifies, which he seems to.
Given his 3 England U20 caps would the transfer of association necessarily have to go through a lengthy arbitration process?
Eirambler
09/05/2021, 11:56 AM
Will probably need to get FIFA clearance - although under 20 is non competitive which might make it easier. As long as he has an Irish parent or grandparent the Under 20 caps certainly won't stop him declaring for us if he wants to.
Only thing I'd say against him is that he's a bit small for an international keeper.

No direct quotes but I like this line, particularly since it is coming from his Swedish father: Johansson's father Thomas this morning told Independent.ie that correspondence with FIFA had confirmed that his son could now pursue his wish to play for Ireland.

Yes, looks like Johansson is an Ireland player. I really hope it works out well for him with us because he has had to go through more hoops than most to play for us. Also once he plays for us it's final, no going back, so I really hope he makes the grade.

Seville have him on a 6 year contract, which sounds good but may not actually equate to a 6 year contract in the strict meaning of the term. I thought he had been photographed almost kissing the badge of Sweden or was it just 'over the moon' at the opportunity to declare for Sweden? It's a curious situation now that Luxembourg have overtaken Ireland. Maybe he thinks he has a better chance to get into the Irish team than Luxembourg. As it stands now he's a long shot, 5000/1, currently Dunphy has a better chance of getting the Ireland job than Ryan has of coming close to cementing his place in the team.

Hes just another one of our young players right now that its time to start showing they can play mens football and forget about the "potential".
Hopefully hes a good addition, the more the merrier, especially with players playing around other leagues. He needs to play 1st team football next season I would think if hes going to be a player
