Yes, obviously a billionto one shot conservatively speaking, unless his career really plummets, but interesting all the same.
Have a thanks from the Brigade.
I hate this kind of stuff on the forum.
He's clearly ours to lose, just ask CD and Geysir both guys who always appear to have more information than the rest of us - they'll confirm.

That's not true. He's never played for any other country so he can switch up until a competitive senior cap or 3 after 21 if the new rules pass.
Not that I rate him that highly or think he'll switch though.

Lads Ireland need this Mikey and pronto, let me tell you. The guy is there for the taking, plays for an irish-celtic oriented club in Britain the other being Hibernian, I think weve got to be very proactive for this matter. Kenny doesnt have much credit to spend, he has Duff there Duff is a mentor for the fellow Johnston, silver tongue and convince the Mikey. Easy

Look i dont wanna say "big nations" because in football there arent these "big nations " in international football. The big league countries in Europe England, Spain,Germany and France are capping youngsters with dual citizenship for fun. I always thought that Germany in the 80's and 90's wanted to cap Wynton Ruffer but they couldnt.
Ireland national team can get players in from the eligibility procedures but it has to be done quickly than when Charlton was at helm. Young irish players are ok, but we need options. Redmond has an irish mother, well call his mother and family, that kid is half irish on the papers.

The new rules wreck my head but I'm pretty sure the three caps need to be before he turns 21, if he is capped after his 21st birthday, even by the under 21s in a competitive game, he's tied. Johnston turned 21 earlier this year.

There is a sixteen year old goalkeeper called Ciaran Dalton on the bench tonight for NY Red Bulls second side. Seems he also plays GAA in NY after a quick Google.
In today's Independent: https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/from-feile-winner-to-the-books-of-new-york-red-bull-how-a-hurling-midfielder-became-a-top-soccer-goalie-39541348.html

There's a free month subscription for anyone with Revolut at the moment.
Seems a nice chap, father from Westmeath. Looking at the college option. Been with Red bulls since the age of 12 and travelled all over the world with them. Won a feile division one title with his New York team. Seems a talented chap and not short of confidence.

his identity is very much tied to Ireland and the GAA. His mother, Eileen (née O'Rourke) is the daughter of Tipperary and Leitrim parents. And when he arrived to play for Red Bull last weekend, he wore an Irish soccer jersey.
"I knew they'd be taking pictures and stuff and I'm Irish so I just wanted to represent and show love. So I had to wear an Ireland jersey.
"Dad (Chris Dalton) grew up in Ireland. He was born in Westmeath, in Castletown Geoghegan, and he went to America at 17. My mother's parents are from Ireland too. Her mother is from Tipp and her father is from Leitrim."

I'd be surprised if Obafemi doesn't switch to Nigeria now. We might as well get used to it that we'll gain and lose players in future.

No doubt we will lose players at times but I really doubt Obafemi is going to bail on us after being snubbed for one squad. In any event Obafemi should be in the Nations League squad. Kenny thinks he can't play in the system? Bring him in and coach him during training and tell him what he needs to do.

There is No Barbed wire around the Irish Team. Players that don’t want to play for Ireland are no use to Ireland or even themselves playing for Ireland.

Let's just remind ourselves that Kenny didn't pick Obafemi; the player didn't turn down a call up, and indeed expressed annoyance at his omission.
What is it about Obafemi that engenders these doubts about his commitment? What is it about him, in particular, that apparently means he has more to prove?

Well he had a bit of a hissy fit when left out. Didn't turn up for the u21 camp .
I'm basing that I'm not sure if he's that good on games I've seen him play

Apart from O'Neill's comments about the player "having a decision to make" to which Obafemi immediately responded with that epic picture of him beaming in an Ireland jersey with the words "All In" or something to that effect, I really don't see any reason to doubt his loyalty.
At every stage his loyalty seems to be questioned -- and most of his "attitude" seems to be frustration at not being included. I'm fine with that given all the guys we've had associated with us over the years who seemed to pick and choose when they'd show up.

To be fair, it was his club kept him back from the u21 camp, and he did score against Manchester United after the Premier league restarted.
Sean Maguire, who wasn't in the initial squad, also scored once, against Bristol City, and didn't make the matchday squad against Finland.
I don't see why Obafemi was overlooked

Watching Coventry V QPR to see if Shipley is any good. To sum up he's big and powerful but has the acceleration and turning arc of a Nimitz class carrier. I was very impressed by Coventry's young forward Calum O'Hare who bagged a goal and was by far the best player on the pitch. According to this he qualifies for us:

You can never have too many attacking players called Callum.
He's young enough for our under 21s as well. Has played underage for England but it was before he turned 21 so as of today that's not a barrier to him playing for us. Would seem nuts not to at least have him in the Under 21 squad if he's eligible and interested.

If you think that, across the two games, Idah, Connolly, O'Dowda, McGoldrick, Long, and Robinson all got gametime up front, and as I said Maguire didn't see a minute, why was Obafemi not considered?
I'd have him ahead of O'Dowda and Maguire, and he had started ahead of Long for Southampton after the restart.
The "I didn't call him because he wasn't capped under McCarthy is a cop out too - we don't have enough premier league players that we have the luxury of ignoring one on a whim.

Kenny's attitude with Obafemi was bordering on the ridiculous. He had Parrott and Idah in the squad who had far less game time over the course of the season (Parrott barely got on the pitch). He then called Maguire up, a 26 year old who is miles off International standard at the moment.
His excuse that Obafemi had never played as a lone striker alone up front and that was the reason for not calling him up was also nonsense. Parrot had never played that role at any meaningful level either whilst Idah had very few minutes in that role as he was mainly brought on when Norwich were chasing the game and they often had Pukki or Drmic on the pitch.
Surely the training camp was an opportunity to start bedding these players into these unfamiliar roles. Duffy clearly has never learned to distribute the ball from the back at his club either so should he have been excluded from the squad also?
Anyway it backfired in a big way in my opinion. His attack over both games was toothless and if Kenny seriously believes that replacing O'Dowda with Obafemi in the second half against Bulgaria or in the starting lineup against Finland would have made it any worse then I worry for the next few years.

@tets, I'm not sure. All 6 of the players you reference are able to fill defined roles in Kenny's system. Maguire plays wide quite a lot for Preston too.
I would have called him up myself. But I'm not the manager. I'm leaning towards giving Kenny the benefit of the doubt but I definitely see merit in your points ,tets

Bamford is having a good game. Watchin' it on espn+ Argentina. He is a bright player, has football brain, but as fast as a snail. Very intelligent though, for that position, he has good movements, attacks the empty spaces cleverly, but doesnt have a bit of pace to make him better. For me is very similar to Hogan and Collins but playing under Bielsa in an attacking team makes Patrick a better footballer

Anybody know why he prefers to play for the old enemy even though he was born in Ireland? Are his parents English? If not then shame on them.

He looks a good player anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to see him push on as a player. It is clear that he isn't the most polished player but he has a drive and all action industry that reminds me of Stephen Carr. Showed a willingness to tackle and get forward in equal measures and always looked to advance the play.
James Shea was in goal and made some nice saves but he is very small for a keeper, as I'm sure he's been told.
