Yep, we really cant have a guy like this anywhere near our team

The man was born and raised in Ireland , with two Nigerian parents

If he picks any other country then Ireland or Nigeria he is a walking disgrace.
Lets give him the benefit of the doubt, just suspicions for now. I wouldn't even be certain of his eligibility for England.

We have Armstrong Okoflex involved at u19s now and he went the route I described. Born and raised in Dublin to Nigerian parents, moved to England when he signed for Arsenal and was representing them up until this year despite having no England links at all. So it's not unprecedented and I assume the FA put a lot of pressure on them and promise them the world if they're decent players.

Actually Wikipedia is right for once, it was through a great grandparent that he qualified. His great grandmother was born in Athlone but moved to England at a young age.

At the time he was considered to be eligible under the great-grandparent rule, which was changed by FIFA in 1986, the year of his Ireland debut, to what we now know as the granny rule.

So he just got in in time. If he had declared for Ireland even a year later he would not have been eligible.

https://www.independent.ie/sport/fais-tale-of-three-passports-26108028.html
In Aldo's time there was nothing in the FIFA statutes about a great-grandparent rule.
If a player was eligible for citizenship, he was eligible to play for that country, he didn't actually need to have obtained the citizenship.
Aldo was eligible to play for us in 1986 because he was eligible for Irish citizenship, on the basis of a Dept of Foreign Affairs right to give him special dispensation for having a great grandparent.

After Qatar dished out citizenship to Brazilians willy nilly, FIFA altered the regulations in 2003, that the player was now required to satisfy residence or have parent/grandparent connection.

It really is a case of the 'winner' writes history.
In the first Charlton campaign all the way through to the finals, we had one of the best full-backs, one of the best centre-backs, two of the best central midfielders, one of the best left and right-wingers and one of the best strikers in England, in our side. It would not be an exaggeration to say that McGrath, Hughton, Moran, Whelan, McGrath, Lawrenson, Sheedy, Houghton and Aldridge were in the top 5 of their position in England at the time. And yet we played a style that was to the strength of none of them, yet we'd our greatest success ever as an International team.

It's baffling. There could have been a summer of wild exuberance and an open top bus celebration after our heroic semi final exit to West Germany in 1982 if hadn't been for a bent Portuguese referee in Brussels 1981 / if Gerets hadn't dived / if Ceulemann's free had hit the bar an inch higher and gone over instead of up in the air and back into the 6 yard box. Them's the breaks I suppose.

Starting XI in Brussels was McDonagh, Langan, Moran, Martin, Hughton, Heighway, Daly, Brady, Grealish, Robinson, Stapleton.

Lawrenson and O'Leary were injured. Both would have started I'm sure. We beat France & Holland at home in the same campaign. Drew with Belgium at home, from 1-0 down. Drew 2-2 in Holland. Beat Cyprus twice.

Looks like he was brought up out Kilmacthomas/Clonea way but may be English born, it appears his mother may be from there or may have close family there, she is living here and his sister is also living here. From a Facebook stalk it would appear his sister is friend's with a mate of mine. I could do a check to see does she know anything about where his allegiances are.

Speaking to a mutual friend of his and mine about a year ago, the friend of his said he reckoned he’d play for Nigeria. Wasn’t gospel by any means and maybe there was a touch of winding me up, but if there’s any pressure or desire for change, it probably swings in that direction rather than towards England.

Yeah it's ridiculous - should be "you can either switch to a country you qualify for or not" - not "you can switch to a country you qualify for if you were already half-planning for the eventuality while playing for your original country and if you don't pre-plan you can't... well if your original country objects anyway... if they don't then you can... unless the original country of another player who wanted to switch objects to the switch around the same time you signal your intention to switch, drawing attention to the rule, in which case you may not be able to even if there's no objection from your originating country's FA, but who knows for certain?

Kalvin Phillips of Leeds is eligible for Ireland. I saw a tweet from his mother saying that he had an Irish grandparent. He would be a very decent acquisition if we could entice him. Any FAI people here to examine this further?

Also, does anyone know if 18 year old Aaron Hickey who is left back for Hearts is eligible. Highly rated and currently linked to Aston Villa, Bologna, Celtic and Bayern Munich in this transfer window?

I don't dissagree with your general sentiment, but changing the wording to 'be allowed to switch to a country you qualify for' still would not allow a player like Dan Crowley or Dowell to switch. Reason is, a foreign born player with only grandparent/s connection is not qualified to play for Ireland until he/she actually acquires Irish nationality.

How about, a player (who has not yet played at A level competitive) be allowed to switch to the association of another country of which he is entitled to hold nationality of via parent/grandparent /residency 5 years?

Not sure on Hickey but I do know he is from Glasgow and is a Celtic supporter and spent time on their books. That is a start.

FAI should at least give him a shout to see if it's true and get him a passport sorted if so. He hasn't played international football of any level to date.

Would be a non-runner I reckon anyway because he's definitely good enough to play for England in a position they're weak at.

Saka is tipped to join Canaries stars Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Todd Cantwell in the England U21 set-up soon but international recognition is yet to arrive for Martin - who has options.
“I was in a training camp once but not anything recently,” he said of his England youth hopes.
“I’m not 100 percent sure but Republic of Ireland, Portugal I think and England. (Portugal) is on my dad’s side, I’d have to speak to him about that.
“One-hundred percent international is something I look towards and is something I really want to do but it’s not something that plays on my mind too much.
“For me it’s just play as well as I can at the club and I’m sure if I’m doing well in the first team then I’ll get some international recognition.”

I’m all for people saying whatever the **** they want on platforms like this. Saying that...

Surely the admins can see the IP addresses from which every post is made? In this instance, they might choose to verify Chelo’s claims that he’s posting from Argentina. Cause it’s just a pointless and constant back and forth. Chelo posts something outlandish or untrue, which leads people to call him a WIM and an idiot, to which he goes back to his story of being an innocent and passionate yet simple man from Argentina, veins coursing with irish blood. The whole thing is so obviously implausible, and his writing full of tells, someone calls him out as being from say, Templeogue (good shout). And it continues on and on and on, like some kinds of deeply unfunny and tiresome skit...
