I'd say GWs experience will see him start over O'Kane. A dark day lads, thing is I loved Meylers challenge on Hennessy at the time, hindsight etc.

Look at O'Kane. Just pretend Whelan is injured. Whelan against Eriksen - you'd have to back the Villa man in that battle wouldn't you.
There's plenty of cover without worrying about Whelan - Arter, Hendrick, Brady, O'Kane, Hourihane.

I was asking who wood play holding midfield if whelan was injured.i can't see Brady, arter or hourihane been a disciplined mobile defensive midfielder. I actually think Hendrick would do a good job there facing the play but I still think o Kane might be most likely r the role but o Neill may feel he is not physically imposing

According to David Unsworth, McCarthy's injury is "nothing too severe" - it's a tweak - but he will be out for "a couple of weeks": https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/1029/916112-report-mccarthy-set-for-another-spell-on-sidelines/
I would imagine that still rules him out of the play-offs. Even if he was to be just about fit in time for the first leg, he hasn't (and won't have) played a game in months, so it'd be difficult really to see how he could play, never mind start.

Out for 2weeks according to sky sports which I'd say basically means no tear on the mri and his hammer feels a bit sore when he sprints if he is due back in 2 weeks he will be running and doing ball work this week and back to full sprinting by the next week to be able to play by that weekend. Some lads don't half over exaggerate

PHEW.
That was some exaggeration alright. Think he'll be important for the away match if he's fit. Otherwise, Whelan is in for Meyler.

Fingers and toes crossed as James McCarthy returns and starts for Everton today at Bournemouth.

Didn't go too great, McCarthy lost possession for Bournemouth's goal in the first half and was replaced by Rooney at half time. Bournemouth won 2-1 in the end.

McCarthy had a brilliant cameo this evening against Manchester United. Introduced for Wayne Rooney as part of a double substitution, to a chorus of boos from the crowd, he kept it simple at first, keeping possession well as Everton tried to get a foothold in the game, one down and basically chasing shadows up until that point.
McCarthy then had a crunching tackle on Paul Pogba which led to a very good Everton chance that completely transformed the mood in the stadium. From that point until Lingard eventually made the game safe for United, McCarthy was like a man possessed, tearing into tackles, mostly fair ones but not all it has to be said.
His impact drew special praise from his manager afterwards - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-mccarthy-hailed-evertons-shining-14101616

Terrible injury for him today during a collision with Saloman Rondon sounds like it might have been a badly broken leg. Apparently Rondon looked shocked when he saw McCarthy's leg.

Was listening to the radio, heard about the injury, which was described as "horrific", which to me means a broken leg, of
the type where you do not need an x-ray machine to diagnose, and that means a double break, just had a look
at the image to confirm and "horrific" is not an understatement.
I guess Coleman and Alan judge can supply a pair of crutches etc if required.
What is wrong with the bones of these Irish lads?
Are they not drinking enough milk?
OR more likely are they drinking too much?
https://nutritionfacts.org/2017/01/31/why-is-milk-consumption-associated-with-more-bone-fractures/
Milk consumption during teenage years was not associated with a lower risk of hip fracture, and if anything, milk consumption was associated with a borderline increase in fracture risk in men. It appears (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15640478) that the extra boost in total body bone mineral density from getting extra calcium is lost within a few years, even if you keep the calcium supplementation up. This suggests a partial explanation for the long-standing enigma (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24247817) that hip fracture rates are highest in populations with the greatest milk consumption. This may be an explanation for why they’re not lower, but why would they be higher?
My theory is milk, being slightly acidic actually dissolves your bones, indeed the reason why milk is full of calcium is because it
dissolves calcium.
They should stick to a strictly alcohol olny diet like Paul McGrath, George Best or Paul Gascoigne, don't think any of them ever had a bad break?

So disappointed for James. One thing that gives a bit of solace is the example and presence of Coleman, who it appears as though he has a decent bond with. You can imagine Coleman will be willing to lend advice and assistance to James, as well as plenty hope.

Awful injury. No one deserves to suffer an injury like that but it is particularly cruel that it should happen to McCarthy after spending so long fighting his way back from the previous injury.
Sam Allardyce said it is a compound fracture (i.e. the broken bone has been forced through the skin). The doctors will do everything they can but i wonder if we will see him on a football pitch again. Recovering from an injury like this is hard work, and having spent the last 18 months in recovery I just wonder if the appetite will be there to go through it all over again.

He will go through the rehab because he will be motivated, getting back to full fitness will be the goal. Whether he will be the same player is another question.
Since his return he had been throwing himself into tackles with abandon as if reborn as an enforcer, but this injury came from an ordinary challenge.

27 already I'm afraid, 28 by the time he hopefully returns.
It'd be encouraging for him to see Coleman come back without showing too many ill-effects. It would also be ideal if Allardyce is still in charge by the time he returns, although you'd have to rate that as 'highly unlikely'. Big Sam seems to have a lot of time for him.
McCarthy's contract at Everton doesn't expire until 2020, so he's pretty lucky in that sense at least.

Could make a return in the summer according to Allardyce today: http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/03/01/mccarthy-could-make-preseason-return-says-boss
While Allardyce emphasised that the Club’s medical staff will have the final say on when McCarthy returns to training from a broken leg, the boss said that “with a bit of luck” the combative midfielder will be able to take part in Everton’s preparations for the new campaign.

Yeah the papers were saying McCarthy should be back for the October games, along with Robbie Brady, but it seems a bit ambitious to me. If he's in full training by all means bring him over for a bit of training but for many reasons I'd feel uneasy about playing him in October.
