Where is sullvinho, very quiet I notice, this is a statement of fact that he has lost all credibility and should never be taken seriously again. We are on page 130. Its 4days before Saturday.
It's all Roberto's fault. ;)

I'm absolutely delighted to have the James McCarthy debate over and done with....the lad was never going to switch to Scotland. I watched James play for Hamilton Accies a few years back and thought he was one for the future, I think James McCarthy is going to be a real star of the EPL very soon.
I hope he moves to a decent mid-table club next year, he needs to play games...but he also needs to get away from that weirdo Martinez.

That would be some rise to prominence. Could you quote/paraphrase what he said NG?

He didn't mention experience as much as he did in the Sunday Indo interview. More about putting out the best team and that McCarthy will play. I didn't hear anything about McCarthy being a sub so I don't know where RTE got that part unless he said it earlier.

From RTÉ:
McCarthy, who is still eligible to declare for either the Republic of Ireland or Scotland, was believed to be undecided about his international future, but he trained with the Ireland squad this morning.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez fuelled speculation about the midfielder's future earlier in the week when he claimed that McCarthy would not be rushed into make a decision.
Why do RTÉ feel the need to persist with this air of uncertainty in their reporting when it has been made abundantly clear from several quarters - including the man himself - that McCarthy is fully committed to Ireland.

Interesting. There was a twitter quote from some journalist on the game thread saying he'd get at least three minutes or something like that. RTE might be making the assumption his appearance will be off the bench. I'm assuming the same myself tbh.

It was Ken Early on the Twitter machine who said the following after the press conference with Trap
"mccarthy will not start, that would be too tough mentally. "
"but mccarthy will play at some point, even if it's only for three minutes."

Its good to see everyone has got their sense of humour back anyway with regards to this thread espicially as a few weeks ago we all feared the worst but thankfully common sense has prevailed That has been helped because of the fact that we have a young man in James McCarthy who is mature beyond his years and with that in mind i think the irish fans need to make him 'feel the love' on Sat night.
I am just throwing it out there that we do up a banner to 'Welcome' James. i know there is a community of lads on here that meet up for the matches who could bring it with them on all our behalf. If I'm being silly please let me know but I think because of that fact that this kid has endured the most horrendous abuse that anyone has ever recieved for declaring for us i think it is incumbent on us irish fans to let him know we apprecaite it.
I personaly have no problem doing up a few designs as I work in the trade and seeing which one people want to go with and I know from previous efforts we could easily source a printed. Obviously there will be a cost issue but again a tenner here and there from the loyal members of foot.ie could get over this, as we have done for other situations like when its was needed.
I just think it would be fantastic to unfurl this banner at half time when the kid is warming up and would give him a such a great feeling that people are genuinely delighted that he is on board.
As I said this might sound like a stupid idea but I have to say when i saw him training with the team today i had a smiule on my face for the rest of the day.

Trap is still undecided about the difficult to fill left back position of number 3 and has narrowed it down to a final 8. (Spot the odd one out).

You could be right as I count 18 feet, I initially went on a head count, so there are either 9 or 8, including one who should be a fantastic dribbler.

Obviously Kingdom, you share the same tiring repetitive usage of obscure descriptive language in order to mock those who have a 'massive' respect for player stats in a game :)
James has himself pulled out of games where it was almost a certainty he would have been played by Trap and would have been able to get use to (and be comfortable with) the players around him. Around the Wales game, my opinion was that we should be able to beat Macedonia with what we have, James gets some game time on Saturday and probably a debut against Uruguay. If all goes well he should be starting for the away qualifier.

23/03/2011, 10:30 AM
Is that a dig at me :p
You think Mccarthy will start in midfield against Macedonia away? I have to remember this post.
geysir
23/03/2011, 10:45 AM
It's just an opinion Paul, I couldn't care less about not being right about an opinion (with numerous exceptions of course). Should you be so concerned about remembering this opinion please remember the escape clause/context, "If all goes well he should be starting for the away qualifier."
Opinions are subject to a paradigm shift
paul_oshea
23/03/2011, 10:49 AM
I knew well you were going to highlight that bit, I knew well.
I was asking simply "do you think he will start in midfield against macedonia away?" You said above you believed he would have played in previous games had he not been injured, and by the sounds of it embedded in the team by Uruguay game(at least), so why would your opinion change now to be depending on whether or not he does well in the next 2 games?
geysir
23/03/2011, 10:54 AM
The simple answer is that he has to prove his ability for us at CM.
Until that is proven, opinions are just a best guess.
paul_oshea
23/03/2011, 10:59 AM
Ya thats a fair point, what i was getting at though was in the game against brazil he didn't feature for very long, Trap didn't mark him out for praise, but more importantly he played him out on the right wing. He didn't obviously trust him in midfield, or he didn't believe/realise/know/who knows that his position was midfield, even if he alluded to him playing behind the striker - thats not where he has played for wigan, im not sure at hamilton either - so I don't think he would have featured for us in midfield from the start before christmas, maybe not even as a substitute.
geysir
23/03/2011, 11:29 AM
The Brazil game was over a year ago. Trap did talk about James' abilities before he turned up to the squad for that game and he also added that 'we need to look at his quality and personality' "Sure he has talent -- like Rivera, Mazzola, they became very great with experience. They had good quality. It's important when this personality develops. He's fast and confident on the ball. He could be important for us"
Are you saying that in your opinion, Trap would not have started him at midfield in at least one of the friendlies Algeria/Paraguay, considering our available choices then and considering that James had a good period with Wigan?
