What's the story with the 3 u20's that played in the setanta cup, any of them good enough?

Cant remember all 3 mentioned, but I remember Barry O' Mahoney who was mentioned, played well against Cork. Duffy was another I think, he got an awful time from the Setanta Cup, but they, and everyone, must remember they are only about 16 or 17 so they are not going to shine straight away, but I think out of the two, O' Mahoney will be the one who will go on play 1st team football in the future for us.

Mark Mc Goldrick was the other one... Duffy and O'Mahoney are 17, Mark is just turned 18..

So do you sign them or leave them out, their not going to improve unless their involved .
To be training with the 1st team would be important in my opinion even if there not good enough to play at that level yet.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Thats what you think, but its up to Paul Cook wheter they are good enough or not yet. But keep in mind, and i've said this already, they are only 17, you can't rush them into these things. 1st team training is still a hell of a lot tougher than U-20's training i'd imagine.

Of course training is tougher at 1st team level but its not the p ship, it's better than messing around with the u20's.
If you don't train at the highest level how are you going to improve?

He said he wants to wait until after the ACN, but unfortunatly we may just be waiting to be dissapointed, but I wont hold a grudge if he leaves, he's a player in this league who can do well at a higher level and definately deserves to be playing at a higher level too.

Apparently we've signed a player from you. Source isn't great so details are sketchy but they thought it was a winger named Brush. I know your keeper is called brsh but any wingers that could be confused with?

David Brush is the best player with strand celtic, a local junior side. He came over with his brother , our goalie richard 3 years ago , but he did not get a contract.
A very good central midfielder imo, not sure if he is loi standard though.

Taken from this morning's Star

Speculation that skipper Dan Murray wants to move to Sligo Rovers persists and (Roddy) Collins will speak to the centre-half.

"I want to see what Dan's hunger and desire is with Cork I know about the others and now I want to talk to Dan about the situation".

i wish him well, never really seen him as quality but was a likeable guy. if he took the defender on more he would have been a good player but was too fond of going backwards imo. we will def be a stronger side than pats this year i think.

sligofan4ever
05/01/2010, 12:52 AM
as rovers100% said, he was fond of going backwards, in 2008 I think Seamie bailed him out going down the right doing the majority, if not all the damage. St.Pats is probably the best club he could join at the minute, I wish him all the best for next season and even though I said Seamie bailed him out alot, he also had some great games like when he scored twice in the 3-3 draw with Drogheda, the best I seen him play for Rovers, goals aside.

How do you work that out? Top defender the last few years for cork. Be very confident with Peers and Murray beside eachother in defence.

because he (imo) is a poor defender, never liked him

05/01/2010, 7:55 PM
Not convinced by murray but i still think he'll be an improvement on what we've got. I think keane is very overated among rovers fans.Good defender yes but makes far too many costly mistakes. He usually drops at least one clanger per game. If he could keep his concentration for 90 minutes and cut out the silly mistakes we'd have a quality defender on our hands.

Has Murray signed?

SRFCbrothelutd
05/01/2010, 8:54 PM
We,ve conceded a serious number of goals ove the last few seasons, so either its Brushies fault or our defenders fault. Dan Murrays playing history stands up to scrutiny. Read this and weap!

"During the 2008 campaign, with Murray an ever-present at the heart of the Cork defence, Cork kept 31 clean sheets in all competitions. Murray is an assured centre-back with excellent distribution, aerial ability and has the nack of chipping in with vital goals"

Our back four and keeper looks like been
Brush
Keane Peers Murray Butler

Not bad in my book...

Not a huge fan of him myself but he is a fine athlete that could possibly be moulded. I haven't seen much of him though since he left our youth team 2 years ago.

He is good no nonsense type player if he signs I would put a bet on him winning Forza Player of the year 2010.

BTW do we have a fitness coach/dietrican this year maybe it was down to the messing with Cook at the beginning of last season but I though our fitness levels were shocking for the first few months of the season.

theres nobody to deal with that at the club, no. i suppose its just down to the manager and players...would be great to have someone but it'd be more money
