Don't know if he's signed or not but he looked very good. He's a free agent I think so we could sign him outside the window if he hasn't signed already. He was with Athlone for a while earlier this season I think.

Fairplay to him! He must have worked hard at his game.

He was poor at Kilkenny City, tbh. Very enthusiastic lad though.

Alan Mannus has apparently signed for Shamrock Rovers.

If only Mannus could have seen into the future, he'd have signed a contract with Linfield.

Great keeper.

very interesting. what does this mean for barry murphy? mannus was in england on trial there for a division 2 team but he wasn't signed, so doesn't say a lot about the guy but then when i heard that rovers had signed it seemed like a fairly 'big' signing because i've heard much about him

To be honest, I'm surprised no one took the chance. But I can tell you, he was a level above any keeper I have seen in the Irish League or Setanta cup for that matter.

Shamrock Rovers have got themselves a brilliant keeper. Some people just don't get the same lucky opportunities as others.

Glenn Ferguson for example never got the opportunity to play across the water yet Andy Smith did. Ferguson is 10 times the player.

Just the way the cookie crumbles some times.

Rovers have now got the best domestic goalkeeper on this island.

Brian Murphy would give him a good run for that title IMO.

Aaron Shanahan was in goals tonight for us against Atletico Madrid, very impressive so he was. Anyone know if he's signed or what? Used to play with Dundalk I think?

Good keeper, most Dundalk fans would have liked him to have stayed on this season.

i can't agree with that, simply by using other players as a yardstick. Jay O'Shea has a host of relatively top teams after him(birmingham, middlesboro), and wouldn't even consider joining some league two outfit(the team mannus was at was bradford) and Murphy is far and away better than O'Shea in his respective position imo. Murphy is probably the best player in LOI let alone keeper.

When Brian Murphy leaves Bohs, it will be to a much higher standard team than Bradford(or shamrock rovers for that matter)

Some Rovers fans believe they already have the best keeper in Ireland.

Some Roves fans believe they have their own ground as well :) Seriously I would rate Murphy (rovers vintage) but not higher than Brian Murphy who is possibly the best keeper I have seen in the LOI, I have no doubt that Brian Murphy will make the Oirland squad as soon as he goes to England, Surprised at Rovers signing anorher keeper to be honest unless the current incumbent in on his way out

I would reckon Rovers goalkeeping coach Tommy Wright would've had a say on signing Mannus. With Wright being a keeper himself and from watching Mannus every season for the last few years he'll know whether he is above the quality which is already at Tallaght.

I wish Alan Mannus all the best but can't help think that he took a chance and it back fired on him. I dare say though that if Linfield ever meet Rovers whilst Mannus is in goal, that he'll get a great reception from the Bluemen.

IMO Mannus is better than Murphy. Can't see Murphy being dropped for him though, which would lead me to assume he's on the way out. It'd be a strange decision for Mannus if he's just going to sit on the bench. Any idea what he was on at Linfield? Can't really be much different from what he'll be getting at Tallaght.

I think he was on around 25k per year.

What happened there?. He looks a better keeper than John McGuinness from what I've seen of both of them.

I think Curtis Allen ( bust his ankle in a friendly last night!) is the highest paid player now in the Irish League on around 40k although I think Gary Hamilton might not be far behind that.

Most Linfield full-timers are on around 25k

E100k plus add-ons I think. Nothing confirmed as regards the fee yet though, and Leeson will probably keep it under wraps anyways. It will probably go down as undisclosed

Still getting ripped off then. he's signing for a Premiership side, but they are paying Conference fees. I know he's not proven, but if they think he is good enough to sign for a top-flight team in a major European league, he's worth more than €100k - even if his contract is expiring.

DmanDmythDledge

They'd only have to pay ~€50/60k at the end of the season so €100k+ add ons is a good deal.
