What Zayed to Fingal...IS the man stupid..Most players love playing football and want to test themselves to the best of there ability and here we have a clown choosing first division football over a move to england:eek::eek::eek: shocks me

Depends though. Was he just going to be a bit part player for Millwall or actually get his game?

Yeah, you're right. Too many good players staying at home is the bane of Irish football.

I'm thinking Fingal are just waiting around until all the dust settles and then they're going to sign up every single out of contract PD player! Though with such "team players" as Zayed possibly going there I wouldn't be too worried.

He's probably afraid the Millwall hooligans will be after him for being some kind of Provisional IRA / Al-Qaeda super-terrorist.

According to Setanta Sports, Fingal have signed 6 players including Zayed, Shane Mcfaul and Gary O'Neill, would think the other 3 would be Ross Gaynor and Ger Rowe as well as Quigley!

Dublin City never even had players touching on that quality! The way Fingal are signing players, they could challenge for the PD tbh.

Agree with that. At this rate gaynor will be 4th choice striker and he was a player I would've liked Pats to sign (pre "wages cut")

Indeed, DC had the misfortune to be around when mediocre players could command handsome salaries. If you think about it, there's nothing especially outlandish about what Fingal are doing. Take Gary O'Neill, for example. Bohs had to pull out of their arrangement with him, Pat's aren't renewing contracts, Derry don't want him and there's no firm interest from abroad. Where else is he going to go? They have a few years' grace due to lack of debt and sponsorship money so they presumably think they can afford to take a punt.

Depends what you define as outlandish, I suppose. Their budget must be pushing a million for the year? All on attendances of under 500 or so. They're possibly spending ten times their gate receipts. If the money is there, great. But history suggests it'll dry up sooner rather than later.

A million now is going to go a lot further than it did in Dublin City's day though.

OneRedArmy

I'd go further and say that anyone spending that kind of money in a new club has no interest whatsoever in football or in building a sustainable club.

All they are looking for is a bit of media attention and a trophy, until they get bored/throw it all away and move onto the next thing.

Compare this to the way Wallace is building Wexford.

Not to mention that spending a Premier Division budget in the First, particularly in the current climate, is reckless overkill.

Good new signings for Fingal:( I suppose with their money and current financial state of most league of ireland clubs, they were always going to be able to attract good players. Must be clear favourites for promotion now.:(

Doolin is new Cork City boss - reports
Paul Doolin has been named the new manager at Cork City, according to reports in the Irish media.
Doolin has been managing Drogheda United in recent seasons, though he has been free to talk to other clubs given the financial problems at the 2007 Premier Division champions.
The news that Doolin is going to Cork, as confirmed by the city's Red FM, is a surprise given that, when asked if he was interviewed for the position over the weekend, he said: "That's news to me.
"I have not been approached by Cork City and I certainly haven't applied for the job.
"Cork City is a big club in a big city, but I think any manager would only be tempted by it if the club stays with a full-time set-up."
Owner Tom Coughlan confirmed that certain members of the squad will be retained on full-time contracts, with Doolin one of a number of managers linked with the job.

SC, your track record for predictions has been woeful but at least you mixed in a few plausible rumours this time along with the usual nonsense, Garreth O Connor to Dundalk!!! Give us all a break Sean and focus on getting a good rate of interest on your ill-gotten gains from Bohs.

12k isn't a lot per week and we will be financially sound paying it.

€1500 per week patron - We have 300 members and €5 is lowest Figure
€7500 per week gate - Average gate of 1500 every two weeks at €10 (lowest price ticket)
€1000 per week Pitch (prob earns a lot more but i dont have figures)
€800 per week bars

Plus you have shirt sponsors, match sponsors, ball sponsors, mascots, merchandise, sweet shop shop, Programs, goaltimes, Fundraisers, tv money, prize money.

Our youth training centre will be complete in the summer with an indoor pitch and Gym which will also generate more revenue for the club.

Where does the maths not work out?

Look, define full time - is it that these people are to be paid 52 weeks of the year or not. If the contracts are for 52 weeks their full time. Now your wages bill is 52 times 12k, 625k in a year. Assuming it will cost another 100k at lkeast to run the club, then by your sums, gate, bar, pitch and patrons will give you around 330k. That leaves 400k on sposnosrship and advertising. Thats where the maths does not work out.

As well as the fact that you're only allowed spend the equivalent of 65% of last year's income on your playing staff. Supposedly. It doesn't seem to add up. Or is that the case with promoted teams?.

Dodge
13/01/2009, 2:13 PM
Is it nor 65% of prohected income? I'd imagine a promoted team couldn't be expected to budget on first division revenues.
