Financial Stew

Foster and the rest of us were told that the budget would remain the same and the money that Hector was on would be available still. No-one has any problem at all with financial prudence in this day and age, instead of waiting til the last minute until the lad arrived in the country and up in Dundalk if they were pulling the deal and reducing the budget they should have at least given the lad a phone call before he hopped on a plane and came over instead of a wasted trip that makes us out to be a pack of amateurs. According to Colm Crosson the deal was dependant on getting 30k owed off Setanta that still has yet to be paid.

Interesting times ahead as SETANTA sports ask DundalkFC to push the ko time for their match V Shamrock R(Sat 3/9/11). From a 2pm KO to a 5.30 KO so that they can carry the match "LIVE".
The same company that owe the club(and others i would reckon) a serious lump of cash(40k) and that helped to make sure that the club was embarrassed in the Cian Hughton signing.Let us see what will un-fold in the next week or two.???

The later kick off time is preferable surely? Obviously Dundalk should use it as leverage to get their money though.

Just saw this on sky sports news...RESULT if we get it:

Skysports.com understands Peterborough have tabled a bid for Dundalk star Daniel Kearns.
Kearns has been earning rave reviews for the Airtricity Premier League outfit and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on his progress
Championship outfit Peterborough have held a long-term interest in Kearns and they have now firmed up their interest with a six-figure offer for the attacking midfielder.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson is a big fan of the former West Ham youngster and is hoping to win the race for the 19-year-old's services.
However, Peterborough could face competition for Kearns with Scottish giants Celtic showing an interest in the skilful attacker after he impressed against Neil Lennon's side in the Dublin Super Cup last month.
Dundalk are thought to be considering Peterborough's offer with Kearns out of contract at the end of the Airtricity season in two months.

The 5.30 kick off is defo more preferable, those 2pm starts are a pain in the ass(i never knew or heard what the reasoning was for having these matches at that time ?) and of course it should add a few more heads to the attendance.

That makes absolutely no sense but I suppose at least I know how to use the quote button unlike your erudite self.

Deal fell through according to Orielweb, plus the best part is that GM knew of the offer when he said the Hughton deal couldn't go through, the plot thickens.

From what I understand Setanta are merely braodcasters of the Cup now, and the prize money comes from FAI/IFA coffers. Obviously can't be certain of that

No idea to tell you the truth, just heard that he is moving to Galway. I think he was in a couple of the Irish underage teams a few years back so he must have some talent at least.

Ah yeah MM, he had about two good games for Rovers, the rest he was sent off, suspended, unfit and/or absolutely useless.

As bad as Rovers were in 2005, he still managed to stand out, but not in a good way.

Wayne Colbert and Jason Hughes rumoured to be leaving Athlone and signing for Janesboro in Limerick. Mike Kerely leaving himself very high and dry with all the Limerick players he signed. Tommy Barrertt rumoured to be joining Geraldines in Limerick also.

He's a very naturally gifted player. Has done really well this season, obviously impressed some scouts.
It's not a complete suprise really, though he'd still have a bit of work to do make it at that level.

Really? He hardly set the First Division alight last year, some rise to prominence for him.

The primary reason why McLaughlin didn't set the First Division alight was because, and I say this as a Finn Harps fan, he was at a club whose then manager James Gallagher hadn't a clue. McLaughlin has the touch, pace and spring in the air to make it cross-channel at a decent level. The fact he was regularly dropped, played out of position on the right-wing and substituted when the team was playing poorly was not reflective of his ability but rather the lack of same on Gallagher's part. It pains me to see that he went to Derry City!

Stephen McLaughlin is not ready for England. Not a hope. A lot of work to be done to his game but definitely has the raw ability. Would wish him well over there but I'd definitely reccommend a player like himself to at least stick with Derry for another year.

He didn't really set the First alight because as said for some strange reason James Gallagher didnt take to him and he didn't get the chance he should have got. Would be one of the best strikers in the LOI if he was played there regularly but was often put on the left and right wing and he just doesn't have the crossing ability needed for there.

Paulo Roberto Marcelino Dias Júnior or Juninho for short has supposedly moved to Dundalk according to Wikipedia. He has even scored 11 goals in 16 games for us. Funny because I hardly missed any of the last 16 games and I can't remember him playing or scoring for that matter :)

To be fair, and with no malice intended, one of the ironies of the game in Belgrade is that Sullivan was in some respects lucky to be still on the pitch to score the goal, as the Left full off Partizan made mince meat of him 4/5 times in the first half. Dunno if Finnan would be of use now that he's been out for so long and more than likely unfit, but as full backs go, he was as competent as anything. Probably too far gone in life now though.

I would not be overly concerned about the cherry-picking if the €250k is remotely true. No difficulty for Rovers to recuit a more then adeqate replacement for next season and still trouser the remaining €200k

Sorry I wasn't very clear.
What I meant was 50K would more then pay the wages of any decent replacement for a whole season.

If Conor Powell is out of contract at Sligo he would probably cost even less then that. You could even swipe the next rising St Pats left back for buttons as well.

It could be complicated so ?? He can play until Jan with Rovers........Contract up....No cash for Rovers ?? Are Rovers drawing up new contracts as we speak ??

He's contracted until next November. Or he was until Villa bought him.
