Hes Glenavon's ex manager. Connor had him in at Oriel as Chief Scout but he left after 3 months or so to take over Distillery and he was subsequently sacked from there very quickly as they lost alot of games by heavy scorelines!

It's funny how LOI players can't seem to get enough of heavily-indebted clubs, even when they go abroad.

People at Dundalk were asking that even after he had left

This from Feb 2009:

Connor also confirmed that he had just appointed former Glenavon assistant manager, Jimmy Browne, as his chief scout and technical advisor to the first team

We was once referred to as Seannie's "entourage" by owner Gerry Matthews. He was on the payroll but nobody ever knew what he did, before he left for Distillery 3 months later. We still don't know.

There was talk of a Jimmy Browne this time last year too. I think he was supposed to become a scout. He isn't on the payroll though.

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Among the pine trees half forlorn
And there on a sunny morning
Little Jimmy Brown was born

All the chapel bells were ringing
In the little valley town
And the songs that they were singing
Was for baby Jimmy Brown

And the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation, bless this hour of meditation
Guide him with eternal love

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Beneath the mountains high above
And there twenty years thereafter
Jimmy was to meet his love

All the chapel bells were ringing
Twas a great day in his life
'Cause the songs that they were singing
Was for Jimmy and his wife

And the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation, bless oh Lord this celebration
May their lives be filled with love

From the village hidden deep in the valley
One rainy morning dark and gray
A soul which wait in the heaven
Jimmy Brown had passed away

Just the lonely bell was ringing
In the little valley town
Twas there well it was singing
To our good old Jimmy Brown

And the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation, may his soul find this salvation
Of Thy great eternal love

If we did get Oman I think we could at least be in the top three come the end of the season.Kenny seems to have a great squad put together but still need one or two defenders. We're looking really strong in the midfield area.

Derry do look strong this year especially in the midfield area. Like Dundalk if they get in a few good defenders they could be a good outfit this year.

Bolger linked back to us, if its true I wonder will we be offering him the same deal before he picked the higher wage but higher risk of going with Fingal.

He is a very decent player, but if its effecting our tight budget, I`d much prefer some of their defenders.

I'm sure Shaun Williams will be the most sought after of the Fingal players. I'm sure a number of clubs abroad will be after his signature.

According to the Sun(I know!!!) We are tracking Bolger, Rovers-Oman, Williams and O'Neill, Derry-Hawkins and Maher, Sligo-Fitzgerald and Quigley and Pats-Conan Byrne.

Yes, and its outside the British window so he won't be going outside the country

For the record I think Finn is the best midfielder in the country

I'm not sure but can't players on a free transfer be snapped up at any stage?

Only if they move within countries. If they're changing 'football authorities' (or something like that) they have to wait for the window. As even if they don't have a contract with Fingal, they still retain their registration

Oman should be a good signing for Shamrock Rovers. They seem to be putting a good squad together. I hope it's all based on sound finances. Enough champions have gone down that road.

Oman was offered a deal within our budget, he rejected it. Was set to join Fingal. Now it looks like that deal that is ok for our budget is also ok for Oman. The difference was we didn't get in a bidding war with Fingal for him, if the deal wasn't ok for us we washed our hands of the player. Just like we did for Gary O'Neill at the start of the pre-season. And just like we did with Steven Gray last year, we could have offered him a bigger deal than what you offered but that would have broke our budget, so we were happy to walk away from him, whereas Bohs made repeated, better offers to him to outbid us for the player.

Our turnover is huge compared to Bohs when you were paying several players 2-3k a week. Don't worry, members at SRFC don't blindly agree to budgets just to win trophies and bankrupt the club. Players sign within the budget or don't sign, simple as that. Don't know how many times this has to be explained on here to those of the envious nature. Ps, the budget will also be intact when 2 Fingal players come on board soon.

In fairness I can see where Stu's coming from - any club with as formidable a squad as Rovers' as it the moment sets alarm bells ringing. When we've seen squads like them in the past it's usually meant financial oblivion is only round the corner.

It's only natural that eyebrows might be raised, though I certainly believe you when you say it's all within budget. And I'm certainly envious when it comes to Oman, didn't think he ever come back up north but he'd have been a big coup...

The Oman situation gives probably the best example of how Rovers do their business. Last week we watched him choose Fingal, now he's decided he wants to do business within our budget. It'll lead to a much more stable way of doing business once the last of the over spending clubs bite the dust.

Just to point out we let 11 players go from last years squad including senior players on relatively large (part time) contracts (Baker, Barrett, Price, Bradley, Fenn etc.) So far we have only signed six players to replace the eleven we let go at the end of last season. No alarm bells required just yet...

I can see why others fans think on hearing Rovers announce all these signings that we're going down the path of overspending and paying big wages but the reality is our budget this year will be very similar to last year.

3 clubs that have learned hard lessons and are learning from the experience. Sanity prevailing, in the LOI, well I never.
