View Full Version : Transfer rumours
Couple of WUMs on orielweb at the minute saying Cherrie and Faz going to Sligo and Miller going to Charlton and Maher going to Rovers.(although i believe Sligo have been on to Cherrie)
Any other rumours doing the rounds at the other clubs????

Havent heard any for us including anything about Cherrie or Faz.
If we got Cherrie I would be delighted, always said he was the best keeper in the league.
Interestingly the vast majority of rumours circulating seem to be players heading to Shams and I would expect that to be the case.

Supposedly, Brian Shelley, Killian Brennan and Conor Kenna are done deals to Shamrock Rovers. Gary O'Neill also a possibility.

Gonna be a seriously huge wages bill at Shams next year if most of these signings are true
Anto Murphy back to Pat's seemingly

Cretaro back to Sligo
Higgins and McGlynn back to Derry
Karl Sheppard and Conor Kenna to Shamrock Rovers
Kilduff, Bolger and possibly one or two others from UCD to Pats
Those are probably the most solid rumours I've heard so far but I'd expect alot more squad changes than usual over the winter - the Bohs situation, another club on a tightrope and a 'cash in hand' club being punished could see alot of players out of work. Also many players will be emigrating over the winter which will force many PD clubs having to dip into the First Division, underage and Inter/Junior leagues to top up squads more than normal.

We tried to sign him last year along with a few that went to Bohs but they blew us away with their offer.
Heard the Killian Brennan deal was done a long time ago. He'd suit Shams perfectly, and not in a football way.

Have head dozens of rumours already. There's no doubt that Rovers have made Kenna an offer. So have Pats apparently. Considering he was on more money at Drogheda than he was at Pats, there's no doubt where he's going if its down to money
Bolger and Kilduff mentioned fairly regularly but Kilduff looking for a move to the UK.
One of Sligo's dublin lads is likely to move home with ourselves and Rovers in the running.

Any word from Pats?
Pete Mahon seems fairly certain that some of his players are getting tapped up.

Anyone out of contract at the end of the season are free to talk for ages, aren't they?
Yes, but only after their current club is informed.

Kilduff and Bolger both also under 23 and with us two years and more. As is the case with most of our squad. And presumably we've learnt from last year. Would Pat's (or anyone) be paying transfer fees this year?
Be delighted if Killer went cross channel. Better all-round forward than Sammo, I think, who's currently doing well for Killie.
Neale Fenn is retiring again.

Pats definitely won't be paying transfer fees but apparently none of your players are under contract for next year so they're free to move.
Rovers approached Kenna and Dave McAllister. Not getting into the argument of whats legally tapping up and whats not

In fairness he is from Tallaght and Rovers will definately be in Europe next season, whereas Pats will probably only be in Europe if Bohs are kicked out!
Wouldnt UCD (and Rovers too) still be entitled to a development fee from any club that signed Kilduff?

Yeah, that was what I was alluding to. I assume Kildare's portion gets divvied out between everyone else?

I think scholarship players are contracted for the length of their scholarship. Don't know quite how it works, but Paul Corry for example is starting Second Commerce, so I think he's effectively contracted to us until he finishes his degree (i.e. till summer 2012). That'd cover a fair few of our players (I'm told).
But then I've heard the full spectrum of rumours already from various sources, from we're going to lose most of our players to they're all under contract, so I don't really know where we stand. I hate this time of year though. :(

I think Sheppard's more likely to go to England, I can't see why he would stay in Ireland.

No. Players who are out of contract can move freely regardless of age. For example Enda Stevens joined Rovers this year. No fee was due to Pats (or indeed UCD). Loads of others examples too, just giving the one that involves all 3 clubs (Ian bermingham could be another)
If Kilduff was with Pats for a year and then signed for, say, Birmingham for a fee. UCD and Rovers would then be entitled to a bit of this (for development)
BTW I've no idea how UCD's scholarship scheme works. That may tie them to the football club for the length of their studies. Thats the nature of most rumours, rarely well informed

How long was Stevens with you though? As I understand, players there under 2 years can move for free. We've gotten a fair amount of money out of it down the years - Cawley to Shels for E24k was the highest profile cos they refused to pay (and also cos we caught Shels out by backdating his contract to the start of the season he joined in to ensure we'd benefit from this). We've also gotten E10k for Robbie Martin, E15k for Pat Sullivan, E45k for Darren Quigley/Conor Sammon combined and E60k for Gary Dicker in the past few years (all approx amounts). Fairly sure this rule came in on at least one of them.
Edit - Enda Stevens was with Pat's for one year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enda_Stevens), so no fee applies. Similarly, Bermo was at Rovers for just one year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Bermingham). Fairly sure two years plus is a different story.
Maybe but how long was Bermingham with you (or Stevens for that matter?)
Maybe the other players were still under contract (or scholarship).
Higgins and McGlynn can stay away from the Brandywell

i would say this is a done deal, galway looked to sign him in the summer but mervue wouldnt release him.
Rovers are signing everyone and then loaning them out to other clubs as we see fit.
Galway will benefit, Bray might...

Kenna left us over a dispute about money .The board cut the wage bill for a second time and pats could offer him more money than we could , thats why he left . According to the player he wanted to stay but just couldnt deal with being messed around .

Stevens was barely with us six months; he only played twice.
Bermo was there two years, but was amateur the first year, so that doesn't count towards the two years.

Tom Miller was offered an improved contact at Dundalk. Charlton have invited him for talks and medical next week. Preumably he will train/trial with them and see what happens. He has not ruled out signing again for Dundalk.
Cherrie and Faz are both on record as saying they would like to stay at Dundalk (not that much can be taken from the public utterances of players generally).

Ones I've heard are Gary McCabe to Pats and Kilduff and Oman to us. Wouldn't believe the the last 2.
RE. the Faz to us rumour, may be nothing but he did clap our fans as he was substituted in Dundalk earlier this month, never noticed him clapping us before while playing for someone else. Hope it's not true anyway.

Billy Brennan is supposedly on the move, I heard that he's been offered a spot in England (I may be wrong with the club but it's conference - Rushden and Diamonds), and abroad (heard Norway).
I wonder will any Irish players be concerned with improving their ability while earning the same amount as in England and go further afield (like Bisto in Sweden, Amond in Portugal etc).
Also, heard last evening from a journo that Pat Fenlon is going to finally up stumps from Bohs and take a dip somewhere else. Strange as I was speaking with him last week at an under-20's match and he said that he doesn't see any sense in going away from the club right now as they've turned the corner. I wanted to mention that he was the 4th person that night in Dalyer who told me Bohs had turned the corner, which meant they were back where they began.

Someone I know was speaking to Pat a few weeks ago at an underage game and he said to them he was staying put and would rebuild with a team of kids if he has to.
Would be interesting to see how he gets on a limited budget for once but he has a great eye for spotting good young players and goes to tonnes of schoolboys games.

:o . Though in our defence we had €55k burning a hole in our pockets from selling Shane Barrett to Drogheda.

Obviously for money if he's on this 30 year contract someone said in an earlier thread.

A 30 year contract would bring him up to 52 or 53.
Just to clarify for everyone, there's no way, NO WAY, Dave Ryan is on a 30 year contract at Limerick FC.

Don't think Dave Ryan is good enough for premier personally. Decent keeper but too many silly errors.
Would be suprised if Cork wanted Kelly.
Tierney would be a huge loss but can't see him going back to Junior as he seems to enjoy playing for Limerick and is way above that level.
No rumours yet about players coming our way?

Dave has a lot of potential and he's very decent for his age. He'd probably be on the bench for Fingal alright mind.
Kelly was at the old Cork club and got on alright, I'm only going by what I was told by people who'd be talking to him is all. Haven't it first hand like.
Few people have said it to me about John aswell. Hope it's just one of those junior rumours that has grown legs because he hasn't signed on for next year yet!
Mervue pulling out of the league is just about confirmed i keep hearing. So Galway Utd are taking their best 3 players including Ger Hanley coming back.Heard Sligo sniffing around 1 or 2 Utd players aswell, not sure who though, possibily Connelly,Walsh maybe.

We signed him on a thirty-year contract.
Dave Ryan's a top keeper but has a heart attack-inducing tendency to come well outside the area to clear a ball when there's no need for it. Other than that, he does very few things wrong.
Took that from the "Top Keepers in the league" thread.
The only rumours about our team is that the majority of the squad should sign for next season. Murray, Burns, Coady and Murphy have already signed from a few weeks ago more expected soon.
Heard also that if we go up then Kenny Browne could return if not then he's off to Pats. Any fingal/pats lads confirm?
