View Full Version : Transfer rumours
Both McGylnn and Higgins trained with Derry today. I assume being released by Bohs is not the main issue but its more to do with them getting their owed monies before they leave. McGuniness is rumoured to be going Sligo along with Createro. Both were linked to us but because we signed Zayed the Cretero deal is dead whilst McGuniness was offered better terms with Sligo.
Derry are now rumoured to be chasing Aiden Price and Liam Burns. Joe McCready also rumoured to have turned down the chance to join Hamilton from Institute to join Derry.
Young McCready would be a great signing Kenny's a big admirer, and destined for big things. Disappointed with mcGuinness but club only wants guys on 40 week deals now and to reside in the city. Think we have too many midfielders at the club if we get Mcglynn and Higgins. Think he will end up pushing Paddy Mceleney up front with Zayed, and use McLaughlin wide with McLean on the opposite wing. Price seemed to be a decent player but forget Burns dont rate him

Ye must have offered him nothing!
Don't want him at Rovers, not because of his past but because he's not up to it. Be a disgrace if he started ahead of Foran.

I'd take him cos I'd imagine Cook would only be willing to have him in if he and Boco were ok with it.Good back up for Foran and Peers

Last resort maybe.
McGuinness is a seriously good player who was frozen out of the team by Nutsy last season for reasons unknown. Was also one of our better performers when he did play. If you can put the racist issue behind you then you will have an excellent player in your team.

Will you get a fee for that? Presuming he was still under contract

All 4 hit the target actually.
There's a difference between being on target and hitting the target

i think they only do 40 week contracts and Chambers didnt re-sign.

Well we do two-year deals, but they'll not be payed anything during the off-season. Chambers was on a one year deal and leaves without a fee

So your players sign 2 yr contracts and go 3 months without getting paid under said contracts.Am i reading that right.Would they not be free to leave under those deals if a club approached during the period that they were unemployed as such.I mean would rovers be able to demand a fee for a player they were not paying.Very foolish for them to sign a 2 yr deal under those terms i would think.

Perfectly binding and acceptable once it's set out in advance. Your contract is only broken if pay dates are missed. Pay dates can be anything that's agreed in the contract. Part time clubs do it all the time or did in previous years anyway.

Anybody know the striker situation with pats this year, is it just north, McMillan and kavanagh although I've heard he's more a winger than striker. This was our biggest problem last year so we need a good 15-20 goal a season man up top playing off north.

It makes perfect sense if the deal suits both player and club.
Player A agrees a two year 40 week a season deal at €600 pw. Player B agrees a two year 52 week deal at €461. It's effectively the same difference!
Alternatively, say a club does offer a player a 2 year 40 week deal at say €600, but is prepared to agree a 1 year deal at the same money if the player wants this. The player now has a decision to make - does he opt for the relative security of the two year deal (regardless of injury or loss of form) or does he take his chance that someone will want him in a years for more money.

Yeah, it will split 99:1. The cast majority are ok with it if Cook and Boco are.

I think Pete has said that he will using Kavanagh as a striker but yes so far they are our only 3 so we probably need another one, AFAIK there is another 3 signings to be announced soon

I have to say, and many Dundalk fans may disagree, but I had a lot of time for Rowe when he was with us. Great touch and very good technically. I always felt he added something when he played. Could be a good signing considering Bohs position at the minute.

Would agree with you there. I thought for the short time Rowe was with us he was decent enough, he score a good few and even though he seemed like he was running around like a headless chicken he still put in a decent shift.

Colm Hyland (Willow Park), Ronan Frawley (Willow Park), Damien Rushe (St. Peters), Noel McGee (St. Peters), Derek Glynn (former Longford Town), Jason Hughes (former Limerick) and Liam Lynch (Ballinasloe Town) are all in talks with Athlone to play this season at Lissywollen. From last seasons squad, Micahael Schlingermann, Scott Gaynor, Eoghan O'Shea, Stephen Relihan, Niall Scullion and Kevin Williamson are staying on.

This is the rumours thread! Kerley has been talking about him but if he's signed for somebody well then he's obviously off the market. It was also in the local paper here that he'd be looking at a couple of local Limerick players including Hughes but they'd be getting more money to play down there!! I'm afraid to know what our budget is!!

Liam Lynch is a good honest player. Scored a few goals for us but I believe he felt the time you have to give up to play LOI wasn't really worth it. Maybe he's got the itch for it after a year out. Glynn can be good on his day still but he was injured nearly all of last season so you'd want to be careful.

Can't really see gartland signing for shams, he's a quality centre half or even left full and could easily make few quid in spl or league 1 or 2
