Bohs press conference tomorrow to announce their squad for the new season it seems. Will be interesting to hear what's changed in the two weeks since Fenlon was doing his annual cap in hand job, practically saying he could barely put any 11 players together, because it seems like Bohs have found a few bob after all.
I predict Bohs squad will be as useful as a Sporting Fingal season ticket

not a lot Dunny - he is in the Reading first team squad (#44) and is 19 yrs old i think. Is fond of Indian food and is a prankster in the dressing room. ;)

Stop downplaying it Stu, Fenlon's putting together a team to be competitive, not to avoid relegation. You know quite well that Ger O'Brien's not signing and only being paid Bohs' supposed salary cap.

Where else are these players going to go? There's also last seasons Galway players to go find clubs.

Well I can tell you that Bohs offered more for one player than Pats did. Last season's Galway squad, with respect, was poor enough with their best players already snapped up.
We'll find out at one exactly what type of player Nutsy has lined up but I'd be astonished if Bohs aren't in the top 4/5 all season

I'd have thought Bohs would be fighting it out with Drogheda, Monaghan, Bray and the likes for signatures. Apparently Aidan Price, Ger O'Brien, Robert Bayly and Anto Flood will be confirmed today (according to Paul O'Hehir) adding to the players kept on from last year like your two pro, experienced keepers. Those signings don't exactly suggest a side who'll be competing with Drogheda United on the pitch, or in the chequebook. Obviously we wont know until the press conference later today, but if those are the signings well then it seems that yet again Bohs are gambling in the hope of getting through a round or two in Europe and finishing high up the LoI table to pay off a bit of the Zurich debt. I'll be dumbfounded if the Bohs fans are delighted to hear about such signings, and if they are they deserve everything they have coming to them.

Certainly not delighted, even if the 500 cap is in place Id be unhappy if we end up with a senior squad of more than 10 or 11 players.

Guys you really need to shake yourselves free from this delusion about the €500 wage cap - it is a nonsense propaganda that is being peddled.
It will be good for the competitiveness of the league if Bohs assemble a decent squad, but really the question responsible Bohs fans need to be asking is whether the playing budget is likely to place Bohs in jeopardy again

Bohs have also signed Conor Murphy from Rovers Under 19s and a young fela from Pats called Karl Summer ( I think) Also, a young fella from SF called Eoin (Foster?) To play in the A side next season. Owen Heary will manage the Championship team..

Ronan Finn on trial at Crystal Palace.

As the transfer window in Britain has closed, Finn would not be able to play for a club until next summer but he would be in a position to sign a pre-contract and join a League of Ireland side until the window opens again in July.

Strange that Baz hasn't been announced as being released or on trial anywhere else, especially with Sligo in particular being in the market for a keeper the last few weeks, plus Baz did start pre-season training with Bohs. Considering he was laughing at Bohs being "completely f**ked" in pubs over New Years I'm amazed if he thinks he's going to play hard ball and get a better deal out of them, but maybe that's the game he's playing.
oh, how i love your little tales of players down t'pub. Theyre really fun but most importantly, very reliable.
yeah, maybe he's trying to stay at Bohs and will end up staying here. Too late for him to join anyone else.

As reliable as any club statements in fairness
at least clubs are somewhat accountable for the statements they release. Tales of drunken escapades with players down the pub are a different beast!

Liam Burns was offered the same terms as last year at Dundalk (confirmed by Ian Foster) and this was more then €500:
Speaking at a fans’ forum in the Youth Development Centre at Oriel Park last Thursday night, Foster also revealed that the club have now “moved on” from last year’s club captain Liam Burns, who had been offered the same terms as last season.
Of course it's possible that he accepted a lower offer, but I very much doubt it.
Aidan Price was also offered terms with Dundalk and indiscussions with Derry, and was haggling for more money. Guess what - this was over €500 a week too?
Other anecdotal evidense from Dodge suggests similar stuff with a player Pats were talking to.
It's also very hard to imagine that Ger O'Brien or Anto Flood are below this wage level.
Owen Heary is on over €1000 a week.
Do yo believe the €500 propaganda?

Well we officially signed Brendan Clarke today so we definitely wont be signing him. The rumours down here were that we were talking to him at one stage but was looking for too much money to relocate.

Based on the signings being made by Bohs, I predict a similar struggle next year without half the enthusiasm and vigour from the fans to recoup the deficit.

What crazy wage offers, Fingal went bust, its two weeks to the season and those players are guna have to take what they can get. Also, our season ticket sales are up to last years and there is still two weeks til the season starts. Our budget was also the same as last year...around the 7k mark but with season tickets been up, abit more money was given to Foster. We also get an automatic 7.5k for the first round of the setanta cup.

Not at all. Dundalk CEO Gerry Matthews only allows Foster to have a very prudent budget as mentioned above around the 7k mark. Matthews is a business man first and foremost and has taken many steps to make the club financially viable. Outside of the run of the mill football income streams (season tickets, match day tickets, sponsorship, merchandise, etc.) which we would be doing decent enough in compared to many clubs at the moment, we have other income streams that alot of other clubs don't have. For example the new youth development centre is now up and running and a number of events have already taken place here - European badminton tournament for instance. Also other streams of income would be pitch rental (I live right beside Oriel and there is someone playing there most evenings from 5-10) and we have 3 bars (in the newest bar for example is supposedly booked out for months for 21st, birthday parties and so on).
This is a recent interview with Gerry Matthews that gives some insight into how the club functions:
http://blackandwhitetown.squarespace.com/home/2011/2/13/gerry-matthews-interview-february-2011.html
Talking to one of the guys at our club last night and he was very impressed the way Dundalk have been going about their business off the pitch.

When you read this, you realise how easy it actually is to run a business properly. People can just walk away all to easily and not be culpable to what there leaving behind. Again it begs the question of how stringent the FAI really are?

It's easy (or at least easier) to run it right if the previous incumbents didn't make a balls of it and leave you with a lot of debt and little goodwill left which is the case at many clubs. If you don't have deep pockets it's a difficult spiral to get out of as a club may face a long lingering death unless it fields a team which will bring in some revenue. Of course.. gambling is the last thing you should be doing, but sometimes I can see that there is a certain logic behind it.
Also- football will always be a gamble to some extent. You can set out a perfectly reasonable budget but if the team bombs suddenly everything from your gate receipts to commercial revenue to fundraising and general energy levels of volunteers collapse as well. Add in a few unforeseen expenses and a relatively well run club can still end up in trouble.

Fair enough, but Liam Burns is from Belfast. The fact that he has delayed for two seasons on signing a new contract, and last season was pimping himself to Shamrock Rovers before eventually resigning, would lead me to think that he has some issue with the club - possibly Ian Foster. He has signed for a club arguably in decine rather than one that is on the up.
He's no issue with any club. he's after money.
Nothing wrong with that at all.

From what I can see, very much on the outside looking in, Dundalk seem to have been building well over the last few seasons. The top 3 will have to be their minimum aim for this season. Derry and Pat's should make up the top 5, it's hard to know with Boh's if they can press for a top half finish.

Well considering that Bohs fans are so insistent on the fact that he was offered less than Dundalk offered i.e. €500, and who am i to contradict them, well he couldnt have been after money. Up until Hawkins signed an offer was still open (we were that desperate). There is nothing wrong with seeking out the largest wage but this case doesnt add up.

Don't care what Bohs/Dundalk fans say about their club's offers. He lefta asuccesful bohs team to join Dundalk based on money. He obviously wasn't happyw ith latest offer, tried to get better and now has it with Bohs.
Wouldn't look too far into it IMO
