So are ye still after Kilduff with those signings?
I think 'after' is the wrong word!

Why in God's name would they be getting worried? They released half a squad at the end of the season and have only signed three players, with possibly 2 more nearly done. The only thing that's a bit controversial is paying compensation for Kilduff.
They've been turned down by countless players because the basic wage they're offering is so small and players are still looking for the wages of 3 years ago.
Or is there some other non-financial reason for them to worry?

How would paying money for the second top scorer in the league be controversial?

Paying a fee for any player in the League of Ireland is always going to cause a few ripples of discontent, especially when the club that's paying it released him a couple of seasons ago.

That'd probably make the decision to release him controversial, not the decision to pay money for him.
Any Rovers fan who moans about paying money for Killer needs their head examined.

On a lightly related note someone seems to have made a few amusing edits to his Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciar%C3%A1n_Kilduff
I suppose it depends on the amount that's paid in the end if it's mad to moan about it or not. He should have re-sale value if he does well and he was excellent last season so it should be a decent bit of business assuming it's completed.

Alot of egos in that squad next year if the rumoured signings come in with the signings already made.Mo'N's man management skills will be tested.

I'd be doing my nut in if Pats payed any money for any player. Kilduff won't be an automatic starter there either.
On the wages front, most of the players to leave Rovers were msotly signed before Rovers became players in the high end wages market so the wages dumped isn't that much (One of the players released was getting nothing but expenses for example)
Shouldn't be an issue for Rovers anyway as their income levels are high (relative to the rest). O'Donnell, in particular, is a super signing

He had agreed already to sign and would have when last season ended. But UCD, rightly imop, needed to be compensated. At least if we win the league again UCD will also benefit!

Why would Sligo increase the terms without increasing the length of contract? That doesn't make any sense.
It is not in the clubs interest to have the best player in the league playing the best football in the team on a pittance.
It would create unnecessaary discontent
It was a just reward for the half a season performance he put in to earn what essentially was his initial contract before it was cut in half.
Makes alot of sense to me since treating our players good has helped in some way to secure Richies signature.

Rumour on our site that a Dwyane Wilson from UCD may be signing for us. UCD fans have any info on him?

Meh. We can't really afford to lose more players, but I wouldn't be too excited as a Waterford fan. Winger; promoted from the LSL mid-season and scored on his debut in the League Cup against Athlone; tended to be far too easily muzzled by any decent full-back.
There's some clips of him here (from 5:10) -

Wilson could do a job in the First Division. He looked promising in his first few games but didn't really push on from there.

I hate this thread... :(
See the video previously posted. Improved dramatically towards the end of the season; prior to that, he was merely ok. No real end product until the Goal of the Season against Rovers and the hat-trick in Galway the following week.
Edit - and now Greg Bolger is on the verge of joining Sporting Fingal apparently (http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/irish-players-set-for-scandinavian-trials-2491016.html), which is the first indication we've gotten about them next season.

Offering higher wages is not the same as paying higher wages. Ask former players of Bohs, Drogheda or Cork.
Might be another season of mid table for Dundalk but at least we'll know our future is secure. Was really hoping to get Bolger as he really impressed in games against us.

Really surprised to read that about Fingal, I thought they would have had a dramatically reduced budget, and certainly not in line to attract the likes of Bolger, McGuinness and O'Neill.
They have performed a miracle in getting investment in this day and age.

They only had a few players left from last year, so they'll pad them out with a few strong first teamers and use younger players and reserves to take care of the rest. Should be okay though, with their current starting line up they look like heading for a European spot. I hope that we can bring through some more local talent, keep costs down and have a cup run. Mid table and a healthy balance sheet does seem nice.

According to Buckley in the Fingal independant, we are negotiating with Kirby at the moment. We have renegotiated contracts with some players (not sure if this is already contracted players or players who where out of contract). Also Ronan Finn and Williams are having trials with Wolves this week.

Personally thats what I hope we do. We have some very good youngsters in the youth side so these may get more of a look in this year. It would be great if the players we are developing can get a chance as this would be a safer option financially and I personally would get more pride out of seeing these lads do well for the club. It was always the intention of the club to develope good young talent, so maybe this is our chance to start putting that into practice. Hopefully

Fingal had the finances to chase the same players ourselves and Sligo did. It was a three way race for pretty much the same players. It's not a case of them just tightening the purse strings, they just couldn't get the players they were after.

It was foretold. We've no money. The players leaving will push others out the door at the likes of Pat's and Pat's and, well, Pat's, and we'll snap some up. It's nothing too dissimilar to what happened at the end of 2008.

Very good signing for Cork. Unfortunetly,he couldn't commit to our training schedule with his new job and new kid so decided correctly to step it down a level for the foreseeable future.

One of Waterford's best players, named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year last year by his fellow pros, but if Turner keeps on performing and improving then Carey will find it difficult to get his game at right back.

Caro's played a lot at right mid too. Didn't I see one of your lads bemoaning a shortage of wide players a while ago? Might have one more now.
Didn't have the best of seasons last year, even he will tell you that, presumably only a matter of field position that at least three more of our lads weren't picked in that team before him (John Kearney, Kev Burns, WJK for example all had much better seasons). But he was solid though, as ever, and had a superb 2009 too. Top man, and carries nothing only good wishes from Blues fans, the switch was a no-brainer with his personal circumstances.
