Now that the season has reached it's rushed conclusion and the longest off season in world football starts, the transfer rumour mill gets underway.

Dave Robertson (Mr. Integrity) at Sligo Rovers is reported to have won the "race" to sign Ismahil Akinade.

Obviously he's thrown in the towel on the integrity of not tapping up players before their contracts end. : )

Rumours of a few players leaving Harps and a few retiring. Could be a rough off season for us and a tougher 2017 ahead.

Just getting in ahead of the pack. Now that we're safe from relegation, the talk of a 2017 relegation battle can start immediately.

The recent Sligo tradition of tapping up Bohs players continues.
Presumably, like the others, he will be let go before the season is out.
Good luck to Akinade,

Are players not free to negotiate with other parties in the last 6 months of a pro contract? Obviously in the LoI that would be the majority of the 40 week contract period anyway!

I hope to god Conor Powell thing is just paper talk.

Powell was never the same player after he came back from England, but he is at least an actual left back, which would be a new concept for Limerick.

Talk on our forum that Buckley and Lopes are off to Bray. Wouldn't surprise me as our budget will be even lower next season.

Why is that? Your attendances are holding up pretty well and the stadium deal has the debt monkey off your back.

Yes they are.
I'm sure that any club who wanted to retain a player would have talked to him by then.

To build a contingency fund for any possible falloff in revenues if we move to Tolka in 2018.

It is but whether it happens in 2018 as proposed, I'll believe it when I see it.

Nope. He hates Rovers and won't go full time anyway.

Rovers know how to spend money.

After spending their Europa League windfall in record time, they are making good progress on getting through the recent €1.5m "loan".

http://www.shamrockrovers.ie/news/latest-news/4455-sporting-director-appointed

Stephen McPhail appointed "Sporting Director".

The statement says: "The club expects to hold a media event within the coming fortnight with Stephen McPhail to announce the new first team head coach along with some new player signings if possible". (presumably if there is anything left in the budget for players)

If Rovers are serious about building an academy they need to have a structure with quality coaches

However, those new dugouts will have to get a further extension for all the first team coaches and assistants

Stephen McPhail
Sami Ristila
Stephen Bradley
Glen Cronin
Damien Duff

Are there more?

Bradley and McPhail are the only ones contracted for next year afaik.

Lopes to Rovers so. Limited , but would function well in a five man midfield along side a playmaker/ actual footballer. Also a rumour that Keith Buckley going to Tallaght too. That would be good news.

Apparently Daryl Horgan has turned down a move to Rovers- €1,800 a week supposedly..
He's happy to stay at Dundalk earning €500 a month and all the bananas he can eat.

Great to see a guy like Mcphail staying involved with LOI and to see proper structures being put in place.
Having a guy like him involved in recruitment can only help. Good day for the league , great for rovers

Thats old news

At the end of the 2013 season, Horgan left Cork City and despite interest from Shamrock Rovers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamrock_Rovers) and St. Patrick's Athletic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Patrick%27s_Athletic) as well as trials at Barnsley (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnsley_F.C.) and Torquay United (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torquay_United),[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Horgan#cite_note-8) he signed for Dundalk[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Horgan#cite_note-cork-9) on 9 December.

Joe Gormley is back in Ireland after leaving Peterborough, on loan from St Johnston.
He can't sign for an Irish League club until August, so you'd imagine he'll look for a LoI club. Would be a great signing.

Kenny tried very hard to get him a couple of years ago before he went over to Peterborough. In the meantime, he has had a bad injury and seems very disillusioned with the game.

Conor McCormack saying that it's being more difficult to live off his sterling wages whilst living in the south. I'd say he has a point, alright. Maybe we could just go back to paying players in euro? It'll certainly have an effect on our ability to attract southern players next season though.

Here's the Derry Journal article, if you can tolerate the ads: http://www.derryjournal.com/sport/football/derry-city/derry-city-s-southern-players-taking-a-pounding-1-7654818
