View Full Version : Transfer Rumours 201X Season
Michael O'Connor rumoured to be off to Bradford City on a 2.5 year deal. Pity if he goes because I reckon he'd have a great future with us. Although he lacked chances under Kenny.

He under contract? Fee involved?

I think it's just compensation.

Armin Aganovic being linked with us.. what's the verdict Galway fans?
I think it's just compensation.
If this goes through, the compensation for Michael O'Connor will probably be over 10k, as Bradford will have to pay the usual development fee. Decent move for him as he will get more games against better standard players at his age.
Good luck to the lad if he heads over.

Best thing for him is to stay where he is and break into the first team

His brother Ciaran who the article stated was staying with Dundalk aswell, replied to the local journalist stating it was the first he heard about it

Rumoured that Patrick McClean (Derry) has signed for Waterford.
No noise from our end on it. Few people in Derry mentioned it.

McGrath to dundalk also? Seems a strange one, good potential but ready to win a league?

Jamie McGrath all but needs proper guidance, he'll fair well at Dundalk if he goes that way.

Remember Robbie Benson joined from UCD in the FD last season and did the same. I think he would be a perfect fit to be honest if he moves.

Benson had been around the league a lot longer though, McGrath is very light also, would need to work hard on the physical side of his game. Cork look to be the team to beat next season.

At this stage, I don't think any team is the "team to beat".
Dundalk have lost a lot of quality but have yet to finish putting their squad together. Cork have not really strengthened and look like they are going to rely on two ageing centre backs. Shamrock Rovers have added about a dozen midfielders but are weak at the back and up front.
It could be a very competitive season when you add Derry into the mix.

Bray?
Perhaps. If they gell quickly and Anto Flood is same player who was at Pats in 2013.

Agreed
Cork were also the team to beat for each of the last 3 seasons
PP giving odds of 11/4 on Cork winning the league, decent price if you ask me. Not much value with Dundalk at 1/1

Good signing. Glad they went for him instead of mooney, I'd heard he was in the frame....6 goals in 30 matches in league 1...I'd rather sign potential. Boyd and any of dobbs Shaw o Connor up front looks good.

Jamie McGrath is a far more talented footballer than Robbie Benson. Needs to play number 10 so he'll likely be behind McEleney but there's no limit on how high he can go
(Even if he'll have anonymous games on the way)

Mooney is better than any of those

I will be shocked if boyd o Connor and dobbs don't all have huge futures...Mooney was good but hi s record the last couple of years doesn't show that. Wish him well though he's another decent honest irish pro

hah!!!
Including the season JC took over a team that had finished 6th, and were relying on a 30 year old Munster Senior League striker to provide our goals?

: ) by my count that makes 11 under 19's in our squad for next season. But thankfully a decent few with a bit of experience too. Will take a bit of time to gell them all together, they had better get a good few friendlies in quick.

Did you really not get it?
To win the league in 2014, 2015, and 2016 Cork were the team to beat - as they finished second each of those seasons
Pretty much how I would see it for 2017 also

Seen someone linking mooney with dundalk on twitter last night. Any truth in it I wonder? Don't see why he'd be ready to come back to the LOI just yet. Seems like he has another couple of years in him in England yet.

Tbf and just for the recOrd (in case he signs for us later : ) ) I'm not saying he isn't a decent player but to get him home from England would cost s fair bit in wages and he's not exactly banging them in for the last couple of years. Dundalk have the cash so you can afford to do it....good luck to him either way.
Jamie McGrath is meant to be a done deal to Dundalk, Mooney is a strong link, Michael Duffy (ex Derry) is another but a loan deal from Celtic. Then with Alan Keane signing for Crusaders yesterday there is speculation with Vemmelund for cover for Gannon, which would be fun. He is a good player though, can play across the back I think?
All speculation, but the same 4 names appear to be cropping up, the deal for McGrath might be completed in a few days though.

For me Vemmelund was the best RB In the league last season although his comments since leaving would make your worry about his attitude

Kenny McEvoy home from England today. Linked with Waterford and Galway.
Seems like he will be announced for Galway tomorrow.
Interesting to see if he can resurrect his career in the LOI. Was a potential talent when in the Ireland u21 squad.

Was nicknamed Baby Bale by Spurs fans. Was suppose to be the next big thing. Shocked to see he's dropped so far down the pyramid. Interesting to see if he can rediscover that potential in the LOI. Hope he signs for Galway 😂

Curran was influential for Athlone in their promotion season (half-season anyway), so he could do same again for Longford. Seen him drop back into midfield for Galway once and was very good, could Mathews play him there maybe?
