Any Derry opinions on Dean Jarvis? Rumour here that he is close to signing for Dundalk..
To be announced tomorrow, we hear.
Unusual move. I wouldn't be overly concerned with it either.

He'll be back up to Massey anyway. Grimes would've have stayed only he couldn't commit to full time.

That may be the intention - but it will be up to Jarvis, assuming he signs, to put pressure on him for a place.

With 36 League games, Europe, FAI Cup, League Cup, there will plenty of matches for new players to feature, a decent squad with good cover in most areas is required to have a good season.

I would seriously doubt he will be back up to Massey by the end of the season. Massey has been poor for the last 18 months.

There is little doubt that Dane's form has dipped at times last season. He needs to be challenged and Jarvis is probably better equipped to do that. If the competition causes him to lose his auto place or pushes him to play better, it will justify the signing.

I'm sure when the dust settles bradser will have a plan.
Hopefully not just a rb but a couple more we were very thin at times last season.
Are you going to sign them, grow them or fatten them up?

Aaron Greene being linked with Derry City by Derry Daily. There are not many LoI clubs that he has not played for.
I thought he was under contract for 2018 with Bray.

Ronan Murray to Dundalk seems to be gathering pace, rumours of a 2 year contract to be agreed next week. Dlk also believed to have offered a decent cash offer to Derry for McEneff, who is under contract, not sure on any price, but I wouldn't see them selling for anything less than 50k.

You might have some money incoming if the rumours of Dundalk's bid for McEneff is correct.
How much would Derry price him at? 50k? Not to say that's what Dundalk would pay, but everyone has a price.

McClean, Lafferty, McLaughlin, McGinn, McCourt, Holden... all 150K or more. McDermott already tempting a few clubs and may not see him here for next season. Ask Barry McNamee why he isn't playing at Brentford, Phil O'D wont sell for peanuts.
Later... I'm off for another sabbatical. :)

I can only assume that you see Rovers as needing a striker more than a midfielder.
Aaron McEneff at 22 years is after completing a second outstanding season for Derry, scoring 9 league goals, and culminating in PFAI Team of the Year selection. He is likely to have a further significant impact in the 2018 season and may well subsequently attract cross-channel bids
Aaron Greene on the other hand is a decent journeyman who provides versatility across a number of positions (Striker, Left Wing, Left Back). About to turn 28 years, he is less likely to improve. That said, 12 league goals is decent rather than prolific. Loyalty or continuity is not a strong suite having ended successive seasons with the same club only once in the last 9 seasons:
2009 - Galway
2010 - Bohemians
2011 - Sligo
2012 - Shamrock Roversif
2013 - Sligo
2014 - St Pats
2015 - St Pats
2016 - Limerick
2017 - Bray
I would be pleased if Aaron Greene ended up in the Dundalk squad for the start of next season, but absolutely ecstatic if Aaron McEneff was there

One of the best centre backs in the league for 5 or 6 years. Just not recently. Never really recovered from doing his cruciate in 2013 Cup final.

Agree. He lost a yard of pace which he couldnt afford to lose and became a liability in some games if he was up against a pacy striker. Hard to see him adding much to a top squad now.

Ya he was a complete chancer. He chanced his way to a League title, 3 FAI cups, a League Cup and a Setanta Cup while playing in the Showgrounds. And was captain on and off during all that time.

Yep that’s a ridiculous comment but as said above he’s never recovered from that horrendous injury in 2013, would be a dreadful signing for Derry.

Signing him and Hoban would be great business. I was sure one of them would have been snapped up by Cork.

I think we tried to sign both of them.
I'd have been more interested in Murray tbh. Hoban has not exactly set the world alight in his time in England. We do still need to sign a striker though.

Murray has not signed yet so nothing for sure until he does, looking likely though.
Agree on Hoban in England, but he still scored 6 or 7 in his time over there, may not be much but its a very tough league, and as much as we don't like to compare to that level (league 2) most clubs there are a lot stronger than most of our PD. Cork, Dundalk, and possibly Rovers / Derry exempted.

I like him as a player. A bit raw and can be positionally suspect but a good athlete and strong in the air. Versatile too. Was in a full Ireland U21 squad at one stage while with us. Best of luck to him. We missed him badly in the final weeks of the season.

I like the strong in the air bit........, recurring problem for us last season was conceding to many goals from corners / free kicks and not scoring enough at the other end from the same. Dave Mc was our top scorer with the head (I reckon) last season and he might struggle for a spot next season with Finn and the two Bolgers in the middle.

Ethan Boyle is a raw talent, but one who will keep improving. He's only turning 21 in January and has already three and a half seasons as a senior player under his belt.
As Mr.A says, he's a big fella, strong in the air, and very versatile. I've said elsewhere, but to me, he's a little bit similar to John O'Shea. He's not the most technically gifted, but is versatile and gives you a raw energy, busts a gut every game, and won't shy away from any tackle. Good at right back, centre mid, and I see him potentially as a centre back.

it is understood the Tallaght side had to pay relegated Harps around €8,000 in compensation because of the player’s age.

I don't see what's funny about this. Boyle has serious potential to step up. He's only 20. He's won young player of the year two years running at Harps. He's worth an awful lot more than €8,000.
