Gary Oliver, Greenock Morton striker, is a target for Derry, according to the Scottish papers.
Looking like a replacement for Ronan Curtis.

Whatever happen with Armin Aganovic? Heard rumours he was involved in a ruckus in downtown Derry.

That was before the season even started, I think. Main reason for him going was that he just wasn't very good.
Left in March, signed for Kristianstad.

He's the top prospect in the league IMO. Not that you'd guess it from watching SR.

Very random is right. And they spelled his name wrong, which makes me question their fact checking.

He is absolutely quality though. Lad will go a long way. Luckily for us, he's got another year to finish in his degree first.

€300k Burke to Preston.
McEleney to replace him.

Georgie Kelly to sign for Dundalk July widow.

Would be a fantastic signing.
Oldham are desperate you'd have to think so he could be on the cheap or even no fee.....they got him for nothing after all so it's not like they are losing out.

Georgie Kelly would be a much more important signing, as an alternative for Hoban is crucial.

Obvious yet sensible speculation from Daniel McDonnell about the possibilities around McEleney. It seems that his preference may be Oriel Park, but if Rovers are prepared to pay a fee it may unlock the deal from Oldham's perspective. Adorjans contract in Italy expires end of July and his situation has a bearing. McGrath is the current first choice no 10.

McEleney would be an exciting signing for any LOI team, but fitness would be an issue in terms of impact in this current season

The absence of a fee to Dundalk, simply improved the players negotiation ability and he is likely to have received a hefty signing-on fee.

Oldham have a dilemma. The player is unhappy and wants out, but he is on a decent contract. He made no real impact last season, but could feature in the new managers plans. Oldham may prefer to let him leave, but would naturally like to recoup their outlay.

As mentioned by a few others, we have decent cover in that area now, McGrath has been first choice, but Adjoran is a real option in that spot now (or anywhere else across the middle) , and he seems to be getting better and better by the week, outstanding display last week v Limerick and made real impacts away to Bohs & Derry, and has started to find the net too. Noticed last week is he comfortable on both feet, scored with left, made last goal with his right. As much as good players always improve any squad, for me I`d be prioritising trying to get Adjoran on a permanent deal after end of July over McEleney, maybe they still might go for him, but not with a transfer fee.

Georgie Kelly appears to be a done deal, excellent signing if correct as Hoban is unlikely to play every game for the rest of the season, nothing confirmed from the club on this yet. Dundalk also linked with Dylan Watts, Rovers also I think.

Whats the incentive for Dundalk there? Could they not just sign a pre contract in that situation? Or are they worried about another Shep scenario?

It seems unlikely that Dundalk would be worried about the imaginary dog my secondary woodwork teacher had and regularly admonished. At the time we thought he was just messing with us and pretending to be a bit mad, but later I actually taught in the school and realised the guy was properly insane. All the signs were there in fairness, woodwork teachers probably should not be spending double classes lecturing students on the facts of life through parallel and sometimes contradictory metaphors.

Undoubtedly questions arise as to how the man was allowed to continue as a teacher and supervise teenagers using highly dangerous power tools, but frankly I don't see the connection of the imaginary dog to Dundalk, especially since Kenny didn't move until much later.

Charlie Darwin

Dundalk will have to pay compensation to UCD either way as Kelly is only 21, so they might as well work out something that suits both clubs. Assume Derry will get a small cut too.

Can players be recalled from a loan?

It is possible that Dundalk might let Kelly go on loan and recall him should Hoban pick up an injury.

However, that would be an satisfactory arrangement for everyone. is there any concrete evidence that it is being seriously considered or is it pure journalistic speculation?

sbgawa
15/06/2018, 1:16 PM
You cant recall a player from a loan and play him before the next window.
One obvious reason for Dundalk to do it (sign and loan back) would be to prevent another LOI club or English club being able to sign him, i'e grab him now.

With the resources Dundalk have I can't imagine the compo to UCD will be an issue.

Aaron McEneff is away to Rotherham, according to the Mirror, so there'd be some spare cash about, I suppose.

Unless Duffy wants to return for family reasons, I see no logic in moving to Derry from his perspective.

If he stays at Dundalk, proves himself against teams in Europe, he'll have Championship clubs queuing up for him.

Tbf Derry's transfer record indicates he'd have Championship clubs queing up for him either way. But, aye, no reason for him to make that move unless there's a personal factor.

Clubs and managers throw out these wild transfer claims often as a smokescreen for actual targets. Expect the unexpected signing of Cristiano Ronaldo hence!! Dundalk isnt so far from Derry that Duffy would absolutely have to move for personal reasons. He is playing well in a team challenging for the league and with European football, the club is seriously trying to address the 'free' player drain so contracts offered have to be decent, hopefully CL football next season too. These wont ward off the lure of the money available in the English Championship but it should other League of Ireland teams.

Mr A
20/06/2018, 9:27 AM
If Derry throw in a good offer for Duffy Dundalk may be forced to raise their own. Which could in turn help Derry secure another target they may be competing with Dundalk for.

Or it could be just signalling ambition to their support. Or maybe that mal's a mentaller.

Waterford supposed to be taking another Swindon player on loan til the end of the season. A couple of new players training with the squad. I think they're still trying to work out a new deal with Oldham to keep Duffus for the rest of the year. An English defender who trained with us a couple of months ago is expected to join too.

They'll need to be offering him more than the 2k per week McEleneys about to get along with his 20k signing on fee to make him the highest paid player.

Duffy will be staying with Dundalk, he's now cold on England and his agent will be going back to Dundalk to match Fats' wage.

If Dundalk are paying McEleney 2k per week a signing on fee of 20k and a £50 transfer fee to Oldham for a guy who left for free in January the world has officially gone mad.

The same fee amount for Duffy would mean these two players over the next year would cost Dundalk around 300k , that's a lot of a Europe run money gone unless it involves group stages.

That's the important thing here.

Its probably irrelevant in the context of any players who are now departing, but the difference is very significant.

Everyone "Free to go" means that your club would effectively have no control over who stays or goes, whereas "mutual consent" allows your club to try to agree the player departures on a case by case basis.

Reducing the budget and staying in the premier division is difficult enough without actually trying to manage the make-up of the squad that is going to remain to fight for survival - tonight's win is a big step in the right direction

Ironically Rovers have offered Duffy a deal to be the highest paid in the league reportedly. You’d question how Rovers could back that up as there is the possibility of no European football next season.

Liverpool send their goalkeeping coach to watch young Shamrock Rovers netminder

Jurgen Klopp may turn to an Irish teen to help ease his long-term goalkeeper problems after sending John Achterberg to watch Gavin Bazunu in action for Shamrock Rovers.

Klopp’s goalkeeping coach was at Tallaght Stadium on Friday to watch the 16-year-old keep his third clean sheet on the spin in the 2-0 win over Derry City.
