Would Rovers block a move if he wanted to leave to a decent club in England and they played a take it or leave it card?

As has been said here;

It wasn’t publicly announced - and still hasn’t been - but we understand the club’s hottest prospect is tied to Rovers until the end of the 2019 season.

Ryan Delaney staying with us until the end of the season. Glad that was sorted out.

He's under contract with us until Nov 2019- so if he's going soon we'll get a decent fee.

Well this obviously changes things then. However the English club can still offer a modest fee in the expectation that the player will be wanting to move regardless of the fee. There always seems to be a price to buy from an Irish club v a lower league club in England.

I'd agree though that Rovers should get a decent fee if he goes.

Yeah I could have sworn he signed a new contract at the start of the year, would have been mad to just be a year deal.
To be honest rovers don't really need the money, having the club not owned by members isn't ideal but it's not too bad when the other party is also a fan and an experienced business man. Once we qualify for Europe again I'd think we're in a position where we can hold out for a reasonable fee and add ons. A million seems a bit much but with him under contract 500k+ doesn't seem too mad, that's nothing for Premier league clubs.

Once again Neil O'Riordan shows why he's easily the worst LOI journalist out there. A phone call to the club to check his "facts" before running the story should be the least he could do.

The club is majority owned by members through the 400 club (to be fair you could say 100% as Ray Wilson is a lifelong fan and member (his Dad was on the board and family have been involved with Rovers for decades).
We don't NEED the money but as Trevor will likely go at some point then makes sense to get as much as possible.
This is all just speculation and one media report quoting another, all will be revealed soon I guess......I hope we get to keep him until the end of the season in any deal that's done if there is one

To be honest rovers don't really need the money,

About a club where successive managers have whinged about their budget (did Croly say Rovers had the 4th highest or 4th lowest in the league?) and the resultant spending limitations, that comment gave me a good chuckle.

Of course every club should try to maximise transfer revenue, but there is not a club in country who "don't need the money"

Charlie Darwin

Croly said Rovers had the fourth highest. Think it was Caulfield who said his team had a budget 1/4 of the size of the rest of the top four.

I meant don't need the money as in the bills won't go unpaid without it. Dundalk, Cork, rovers and maybe Derry (and apparently bray but that's a bit unknown) are clubs in a position where just now they can afford to hold out for bigger bids as 200k isn't make or break for them. Of course the money would help increase the budget at rovers but it's not needed in the same way it would for most clubs in the league, at rovers it would just go on paying off Wilson which isn't a priority (I actually think he's good for the club) , or on the playing budget and if it's going towards that rovers don't absolutely need it so can afford to hold out for what he's actually worth as opposed to accepting the first bid.

Not a Bradley fan, but good article. He speaks sense. The credibility of the mirror is in question though, especially the figures they tout. They're still reporting the Roy O D. transfer as 500k

What money did O'Donovan go for?
Bit harsh calling out the mirror journo and questioning his credibility because he might have got a figure wrong?

Theyve been reporting the same inaccurate figure for years. If they're using it as a basis for what Clarke should go for, they should do they're homework. It's poor journalism.

Roy went for significantly less than that, with potential to get as high as 500k with clauses, appearance bonuses etc.

No exact figure from yourself but you're still taking potshots at journos who may be 'in the know' - sound

I didn't go looking up the exact figure, because I'm not a professional journo basing an article on it. I'm posting on an anonymous internet forum. It was roughly a bit over half that though. The 'mistake' is an example that numbers thrown around by journos here are generally nonsense. No one should be taking them at face value.

Clarke was excelect again tonight despite some targeting for tough tackles. Scored a nice goal with his weaker foot. Probably sealed his move. Kid called bolger came on for last 30 minutes, made one and scored one looks like a phenomenal prospect as well. Made his debut last season at 16

Very good player, really liked the look of him when Derry visted last month, 0-0 draw, you could see he played at a high level, rarely lost it, good positioning, good news for Derry retaining him.

Dylan Connolly to Dundalk was all the talk tonight at the Galway match.

That will be an interesting move. I genuinely don't get the hype with him, but playing in a better team should show his quality if its there. Though is he the type of player Dundalk really need?

Dundalk badly need a wide player who can beat a full back.

Keep looking then! From the limited amount of time I've seen him he doesn't beat anyone. Just runs into space until he runs out of space. Maybe hes been amazing in the games against other teams.

Charlie Darwin

He does beat defenders, to be fair. Maybe not against Cork because tactically they can mark him out of it.

Yep. I saw him in Tallaght a few months back and was very impressed. He oozed quality. A lovely baller to have in the middle of a team.

That's Killian Brennan's word. More likely that 3 decent albeit underperforming players have left the club, off the wage bill and they can concentrate on a squad in the 2nd half of the season that have the stomach for a relegation dog fight.

Not the first time that Drogheda players have thrown the toys out of the pram after a drubbing by Dundalk. Last time they didnt turn up for training and this time transfer requests go in - cant see too many scrambling to sign them. Pats would hardly go back for Brennan? Griffen might have a shout with Newry.

Evading the question! If he were signing for Harps would you rate his potential differently, taking in to consideration the relative standing of each side...even if you pretend Harps are champions.

Honestly, no. I don't rate him to that standard at all. He spends more time trying to con the referee with his diving than he does playing the game. If he got his head down and concentrated on his football I'm sure he'd be a grand player, but honestly, I'd stick with Caolan McAleer over him any day.
