Very good capture by Cork, if he's turned down a deal to resign for Dundalk and turned down a move to go back to Denmark. Thought he looked decent anytime I saw him with Dundalk or Derry on the box.

That's a brilliant piece of business by Caulfield. Genius is too small a word for it

That would contradict this. Not that I would believe what Vemmelund says, mind.

http://leagueofireland.ie/index.php/2017/10/31/niclas-vemmelund-announces-leaving-dundalk-fc/

I literally can't believe that he is going to Cork, it has to be a wind up.....

I'm jumping on the skeptical train here. Would be delighted and a great coup by Caulfield, but I'd say it's unlikely.

He didn't seem happy living in Derry, same for Dundalk, made point on other players from elsewhere went home on days off. I would be surprised if he is considering Ireland as all the indications are he is heading back to Denmark, what is confirmed is this Sunday is the last time he is available for Dundalk.

Regardless of where he goes you'd have to be disappointed with him for coming out with this in the lead up to a cup final. Embarrased even...

Would be very surprised if he joined us given his reason for not signing a new contract with Dundalk. It would be a fantastic signing though. Timing a bit strange alright

Separately, Rovers need to find a way to beat the dross, like pats and drogs, to be able to really challenge.

Hee hee. Is this the dross that took 7 out of 9 points from you this year, this while having our worst season in a long time. ?Also, we've won the league and cup since you lot last won a trophy.

It is exactly this dross that took 7 points out of Rovers!
They turn up for Rovers but no-one else?
They are stealing you gullible pats fans out of a decent team, and it would appear you're just too stupid to realise it,or else just to stupid to care.
Long would turn your club around, but he'd be better off staying at boez where a bit of cash would see them challenge the likes of bray, limerick & others for possible euro places.

Vemmuland to City.
Done deal apparently
I wouldn't even mind that Cork were getting even stronger, I'd just have to applaud that level of trolling. What a guy.

I don't believe for a second he is heading to Cork but his "Stephen Kenny asked me not to say anything but I've waited long enough" line sums the guy up.
So much for "thanks for the opportunity" when no one else was looking for me and my magnificence.....

He's a different character and keeps to himself a good bit I believe. Was always his intention to go home or get closer anyway. Shame as he's the best centre half in the league, won't be easily replaced. Don't think he meant disrespect by it just not great timing

To be honest, everyone in Dundalk knew he wasn't going to sign for next season but he didn't need to come out with this stuff the week of the cup final, he could easily have said his piece next week. None of this is a surprise though, after similar comments at the end of last season.

That's the thing though, Kenny and the players would have known this for a while so it doesn't change much in terms of prep for Sunday, just strange timing

He was asked by his manager not to say anything and went ahead anyway because he felt he waited long enough. How is that not disrespectful exactly?

It is bizarre that, contrary to what he appeared to have agreed with his manager, he seems to have felt the need to say this to the journalist this week as opposed to next week when he would be out of contract anyway.

It strikes me as foolish on his part, as he may end up on the bench as a result.

If we're such dross doesn't say much for Rovers does it ? We had a crap season, to follow a poor enough one last year, no denying that. However, once we signed a few players in the break the improvement was there to see.

A player says one thing which then appears in the paper as something totally different ?

A rejuvenated Bolger, playing alongside Finn, should be a good signing.

Akinade to Waterford seems to be odds on, but his playing style is an ideal match to that of Cork.

Surely Doona could do better than that....I hope one day that the LOI will be able to cast off the stigma of our best and brightest leaving the country for the chance of making it at the big bright lights of Tranmere and Oxford United. How god-awful must things get before a young lad with lots of promise says, yep, get me on the first flight to London, not to play with any of the big boys, but, I heard Canvey Island FC wanted me.... I'd love to scrape the bottom of England's major divisions as it's still better than being at home.

I understand your post, but in my opinion you're partly wrong. Tranmere at a low ebb, yeah I'd agree why move there? But Oxford are a decent club, relatively good history and moving in the right direction. That's a decent move.

I do despair when I hear some of the moves the kids who are dropping out of the academies are making. The likes of Stevenage, or Grimsby, traditional fodder clubs or even Conference clubs with nothing really going on.

That's a fair reply. I guess just a frustration on my part of too many lads ending up leaving the league here and ending up going nowhere at conference / League 2 clubs down the years. Obviously, most of them have HAD to leave, but it's because historically there's been nothing worthwhile here. With Rovers, Dundalk and Cork all capable of 3-5 K attendances, Rovers and Dundalk both making EL Group Stages this decade, and all 3 approaching something like full-time professional football, I'm hopeful over time that more young gifted footballers will pick a move from an Academy / Schoolboy Club to the likes of Cork, Dundalk and Rovers, rather than leaving on a free for clubs in the 3rd/4th tier of English football that may pay more money but will never appear in Europa League group stages

We're in agreement. It's all relative I guess. Compared to Wexford, Galway are a big club, with a big history. Compared to Galway, Rovers are the big club.

I'll be happy when the majority of our underage sides are composed of kids playing domestic football, while the quality and results/achievements have improved.

Gavan Holohan also tipped for a move if he doesn't sign for Grimsby.

Have Waterford got Mark O'Sull and Paul Murphy also signed up for next year? And what formation do they play? They would be 3 very good strikers to have in any squad. I can't imagine any of them would be too happy to sit on Waterford's bench for the season

Johnny Dunleavy and Robbie Williams are on the PFAI transfer list (the only two Cork players currently listed). With Ryan Delaney's loan spell coming to an end as well, this looks like a serious shortage of defenders coming up.

Doubt Marky will be kept on if we're going full time. Paul Murphy didn't kick a ball for us last year and went to North End before pre season had really begun.

What a fine addition to the local community the self confessed child defiler will be.

Tom Humphries will be looking for a gig when he gets out of choky next year. Maybe waterford could make him pro??

There was a serious shortage of defenders all season long. McCormack played at RB and even CB at times. Keohane and Beattie also played RB until Beattie claimed the position. A couple of youngsters also got games. Delaney has been a revelation but he was very raw for the first few games. Nobody knew how many games Benno could play. The back four changed so many times that it's a miracle we conceded the least goals. Perhaps surprisingly for an ex-striker, Caulfield knows how to make a team difficult to score against.

There is great respect at the club for Dunleavy so I'd expect him to stay on if things look ok on the injury front. And there's a whole pre-season to get in defensive cover. Most fans are more worried about the attacking shortfall tbh.

Bolger the first of a few to leave

Remember how exciting it was when his signing was announced and he was brilliant for us. Probably didn't play as much as he would've liked this year but still was very important for us

Was impressed by Coleman this year, but I suppose it's not too hard to stand out in the First Division. Big and physical but can do a job going forward and a threat from set-pieces. Will be interesting to see how he steps up to the Premier, hope it works out. Good attitude too.
