Other Saints I was talking to were raving about him.....oh right I see what you`re doing there.

Waterford being linked with everyone available, are they the new Limerick, Bray or Fingal?

Big difference between the Fingal and Bray projects and us, neither have/had the support or local backing from local businesses. As for the Limerick it just seems we’re putting our talk into action, which couldn’t be said about Limerick. Limerick seem to be a case of one step forward three steps back the last couple of years. The big difference also is the community as in spectators and the local businesses are behind the club. The club have a stream of revenue coming on match night, for a change the money’s actually in the bank and Power cleared the outstanding debts the club had. Not to mention a football man and a very wealthy man whom also own an English league side owns the club and runs the club. Things haven’t been as bright in a long term, even if it’s short lived, it’ll be worth it as the club looked like it was on the verge of folding before Power took over 12 months ago.

Everyone knows Waterford have money too so it’s easy for players to say ‘Waterford are interested and offered X deal’. More and more players are playing clubs off each other to get better deals. Causes panic and clubs feel they might lose out so try tempt there targets to sign. Sheppard done it to Cork likewise Bolger with Rovers. That’s what happens when more players use agents, only one club could of offered a player a deal of say €800, then the agent leaks to the media Waterford Dundalk are interested in competing with Rovers for player X, Rovers know both clubs have money so the player somehow ends up signing a contract for €1100 when no other club made an offer. Personally I’m against agents at any level of football across the world only interested in filling there own pocket.

It's a bit early in the day to be claiming that your resurgence somehow trumps Limerick's resurgence over the last few years? You've just won the shambolic 1st Division!!

Limerick also have spectators and local business backing the club.

Not to mention a football man
Ah now this is my favourite part... The blinkered belief that because the guy played football he's somehow more trustworthy. Utter tosh! You think the fans of Chelsea, Man city, Monaco or PSG would rather have a "football man" was in charge of their club and not some random billionaire. Would they fcuk.

Funny that given that Lee Power got his break post-playing as an agent...

One of the most ****e-filled posts I've seen on here in a while, and that's a very tough competition to win too.

Simon Madden being released by Rovers, that seems silly to me but in Bradser we trust, very consistent last few seasons and always tried to get up the pitch as much as possible. Decent ball control and pace.......Dundalk i would say.

Couldn't see him coming to Dundalk, he'd hardly see much game time if Gannon was fit. He'd be a decent option on the bench though, but he's better than that I think.

Well I guess if that is the case then they made a choice didn't they, to not match the other offer?

I suspect the truth is simpler, manager has replacement lined up and player is announced as released to stimulate offers from other clubs.
Good luck to him anyway he has been a good guy for the club, hope he gets a good gig somewhere.

How many of the other 9 premier club managers do you think were not aware of him being out of contract?

My guess is that the number is < 1.

Madden is a class act and you can be sure that he has loads of offers already on the table before Rovers "released" him from his already expired contract

Amazing - do Rovers normally give contracts that expire one month into the off-season?

That seems bizarre in the extreme - what benefit could the club possibly get from doing that?

Bunch of transfer talk in the Irish sun today, mainly involving Shamrock Rovers...

Rovers chasing Aston Villa defender Kevin Toner.

Rovers have already landed keeper Cian Clarke from Bohs. (He's only 16 so i'm sure he'll just be with the underage sides for now at least.)

If they've landed Clarke, then that's a great signing. He's in the 17s Ireland squad, as well as the 19s Bohs squad I think. Toner is a quality signing too.

Clubs sign players to contracts from December 1st - 30th November should they be on 52 weeks like Shamrock Rovers...so no not bizarre in the extreme.

I thought someone like you would know that.

Clarke pulled off a brilliant save in the under 19 final but also wandered out forty yards from goal to tackle a player, missed and Pats should have scored . Clearly needs a lot of coaching ,He is not a tall young man, to say the least
Good luck to him, seems a nice lad, Human League haircut too for the 1980`s era Rovers fans to enjoy.

Clarke is actually from Tallaght, so it wouldn't be surprising if he wanted to move to his home club, especially seeing as they're a full time outfit opposed to part-time Bohs.

Signing the ireland u17 keeper from Bohs isn't exactly growing your own.

I'm talking about the 15 year old plus tbf a keeper at 17 is hardly being bought for the first team and will need plenty of development time.

?

Ssshhh. You'll blow it.

I think he's decent enough myself, though clearly not a world beater. Lee Desmond improved with his arrival too and they formed a nice partnership. However, I would also agree that the main reason we improved was that we got two midfield players in Brennan and Garvan who were comfortable receiving the ball from the back four without conceding easy possession. Made a huge difference.

Not unless we plan on starting a team of right backs! Which in fairness, is possible with JC.

We've signed 2 new right backs, Beattie is likely to sign if he doesn't go to the US, we've another youngster who played there a bit this year. And Keohane who filled in there this year. I think we're good in that position!

Rovers chasing McDermott from Derry as a replacement for Madden.

Risky enough imo. McDermott probably has a higher ceiling than Madden seeing as he's still v young, but there's never a guarantee he's gonna be a good signing, especially moving away from his family and friends. Timlin was one of the best attackers in the league a few years ago with Derry, but then he moved to Pats and his career seems to have gone backwards since then.

If it was up to me i would have just kept Madden.

It is not suprising that Rovers seem to have got a very strong negative reaction from their own fans about the "release" of Simon Madden.

If the reality is that Madden decided to reject a Rovers contract offer and move elsewhere, the move to spin that by implying it was Rovers decision could well backfire as many fans simply accept the club line but view this as poor judgement by Rovers management. If his replacement proves inadequate, Bradley will find himself under further pressure.

Bradley is not under any undue pressure- we'll hold fire and see what the lineup is come Feb 18.
If he was planning on getting rid of Madden anyway, but held off until after cork and Dundalk filled their 2018 right back slots, then my estimation of him has gone up!
The truth is probably far more prosaic.

To be under "further" pressure you have to be under pressure to start with.
Bradley is under zero pressure whatsoever and I think signings like Grace , Burke, Finn give him a bit of credit with the more moderate fans in terms of his transfer dealings

Bradley is under zero pressure whatsoever

Every manager is under pressure to produce results in line with fans expectations.

Even if Bradley finished a place higher in 2017 over 2016, Rovers points total actually reduced and in both seasons finished a massive 22 points off the league champions. I very much doubt that similar returns next season would be acceptable to most Rovers fans, even if the u-15's won their league.

You both know that the reaction from Rovers fans to the Madden news has been negative - in some case widely over the top - it will get worse unless a quality replacement is signed
