View Full Version : League of Ireland in Europe 2016
Truly bizarre.... after all the messing around with fixtures and confirming dates I see there are three games on in Reykjavik tonight, all within about 15km of each other! Glenavon fans should be able to hot-foot it from KR-Glenavon to Valur-Brondby, the lucky swines.

That Valur v Brondby game kicks off at 9pm local time in Reykjavik, with KR v Glenavon a 7:15pm kick off.
I wonder was that done on purpose for the very reason you mention Sean.

Got an email from the FAI this morning advertising the match in Tallaght tonight. Nice move, but strange, especially considering there was no mention of the Pats match on Tuesday.

Scrappy game so far in Tallaght. Rovers are shocking. Goal was a shot/cross that deflected twice and went off a Rops players forehead. Don't think there's been any other shots.

Very quiet atmosphere here in Windsor Park, reminds me of Thomand. Its hard to believe that Linfield are only starting pre-season training. Cork are reasonably comfortable and their fitness should tell in the second half. Maguire is not getting a sniff yet.

Breidablik 2-1 down at home as well. Not good so far for the Icelanders. Nutsy working his magic in Europe again.

Half time could be 2-0 ROPS had a half chance after some awful defending just before the half. Rovers had a free kick that was wide and that's the only thing close to a chance. Shaw not getting near the ball, Miele had a few neat touches early but not in the game at all for last 20mins. Shocked at how poor Rovers are to be honest.

Looks a big enough home crowd from pictures I've seen on Twitter. Many Corkonians up?

1-3 now to the away side. Not a chance I'll jinx RoPS. Rovers are that bad in Europe under Nutsy.

Aberdeen take 67 minutes to score at home to Fola Esch of Luxembourg - who equalise immediately.
Hearts go 1-0 down at home to Infonet Tallinn, though they're 2-1 up now.
Still, the SPL is rubbish.

Similar, aye. Only really gets noisy against the likes of the Glens.
Would be a lot better for the coefficient if Shamrock Rovers got at least a draw. Losing to the Finns wouldn't be great.

Caulfield going for it. O'Sullivan up top with Maguire. Linfield are dead on their feet. Cork have a great opportunity to kill the tie.

Aberdeen have a goal ruled out with five minutes to go - Luxembourg are actually getting quite close to us in the coefficient. Curious given our excellent record against them (never lost a tie; UCD the only side to lose an individual match, and even that was with ten men)
Already some ground to make up to keep this year's 41st spot - we're 43rd now. We've only been worse than that once ever, in 1998. (Granted, lots of new countries since then)

2-0 really well worked goal to be fair. Rovers had been slightly better second half up to then. Clarke had a decent shot just after coming on. 'What a load of rubbish' from the home crowd.

I know a defeat against a Finnish team in Europe isn't necessarily a disaster - it's a better league than ours at present - but is there a feeling Fenlon will get sacked soon? Or do fans want him out?
Seems to have done nothing this season.

How long does he have to run on his contract. Rovers would be spending another wad to sack unless he walks and I doubt he is the type of reasonable character to do that, also his stock will have fallen that he could find it tough to get another top job. Maybe Athlone or would Longford fans want to take a punt on him, could Bray appoint over Harry Kenny? :p

Haven't been to enough games to really gauge the feelings about Fenlon. Very little buzz around the place anymore, almost a sense of resignation to the fact it's all gone to pot. Didn't hear a lot of direct abuse at Fenlon, Killian Brennan got the worst of it, he had a very poor game and looks devoid of any confidence. Hard to see much of a future for Fenlon there the way things are going, they just seem to be playing worse football and looking less like a team the longer he's there.

We'll tear Linfield apart at home IMO. They were very average and totally unfit. We won without doing a whole lot on a terrible pitch. A better pitch, better weather, a big home crowd, we canter to a win against them.

My thoughts too. It would be an interesting tie if Linfield were fit, but they are weeks away from being match fit. I reckon Cork will beat them by more than three goals at home. A nice way to start your European campaign.
